The Drifter

I was really surprised by this game. Not a big fan of point-and-click games in general with few exceptions. Great story, it's like you're playing inside a good 80-90s thriller. Great music, nice atmosphere and good voice acting (I played English version). No wonder this game has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews.

Reminds me of point and click games of the past. The VAs are doing excellent work. The plot is good so far.

I'm not actually going to comment on the story, but I found it alright. Taking a year inbetween my times playing may have made the ending not feel as good had I played without the break. The artstyle is great and everything feels very realistic in how it fits in the world. Although this has some downsides somethings fit into the world so well they blend into the background. The game overall is well made and fun. figuring out the path forward by yourself is very rewarding.

It is a pleasure to play. Don't expect riddles at the level of Grim Fandango or Monkey Island: completing the game is very simple.

Hara is an absolutely worthless detective. I loved this game. It transported me back to the 90s, back to being a kid deeply lost and immersed in mystery-filled adventure. It wears its Lucasarts inspirations on its sleeve and delivers a narrative whose execution genuinely feels original. In any other story, the big 'twist' and the final chapter might feel very goofy, but here, it just kinda works because of how earnest the game is in its commitment to its tone. It's grimdark at times, but whacky and surreal - often funny. The gameplay is point-and-click. This is not a choose-your-own-adventure game, so there are no choices to make here, but what the game does have is puzzles. For better and worse, this too is an area where The Drifter draws inspiration form the 90s era - with puzzles that feel memorable but sometimes a little too obtuse. That's the one big gripe I have with the game really: I didn't feel smart solving the puzzles as much as I felt lucky winning the trial and error contest. But all of that can be forgiven by how sharp the writing is, alongside some really solid performances. There are some really neat surprises I didn't see coming, and even some moments that frightened and disturbed me more than expected. I also love that death is a mechanic in the game, rather than a game-over screen. And the best part? You can even run this game on an actual potato. At a time when many AAA are either pivoting away from story-focused singleplayer games, or delivering them badly, this game really is the best reminder I've seen in a while that less is more. Yeah, maybe the game does cut to black a lot to cover up the fact that the devs ran out of animation budget, but you know what? Limitation is the mother of creativity, and I think it's plain to see that limitation forced The Drifter into becoming a more creative game, with a strong story, memorable characters, and a vivid artstyle. So yeah, for less than the cost of a Domnio's pizza, I do recommend this game. But also... Hara is an absolutely worthless detective.

Pixel arts d’énigme. Quel kiff !

Este juego me lo recomendó un amigo, no es nada conocido. Lo probé, y me encantó. Es un point and click hecho con amor. La historia pegaba un giro por cada capitulo, las escenas son bastante recordables, las animaciones están bien hechas, buenos personajes... En fín, totalmente recomendado. Si te gustan este tipo de juegos, este te va a encantar.
