The Coin Game

This is a good game just wait for a sale.

This is easily one of the jankiest sims in the world, but it's also one of the most enjoyable. It's basically a modern arcade simulator that comes with a bunch of cabs, as well as a survival mode so you can immerse yourself in a world where you are the only productive human alive and have to try your best to survive in a world mostly inhabited by robots. Highly recommended and can play on a potato.

I could write a lot about this game and what it does well and what I personally care for in it. My subjective review is: Sad millennial retirement simulator (positive connotation). I play exclusively on survival, and have been playing for years. Since 2020, I've played the game on a family account for longer than I've owned it on this one. At the time of writing, the game is split into the 1.0 release and the legacy branch. Legacy being a late Early Access version of the game. The only meaningful difference gameplay wise is that Legacy coin pushers generally work a little better, but as 1.0 polishes physics it will likely become superior overall. Most other arcade games work the same, or even better than before. Otherwise 1.0 has some inventory and world collision bugs that have put a splotch on the full release. Some older bugs still linger. Mostly to do with leaderboards and one specific game cabinet that comes to my mind. So what does the game do? The main attraction are the dozens of Arcade ticket-winner games. You got claw machines, coins pushers, ball droppers, mole whackers, and many of these types of games of skill. You won't get a lot of video game-y things although there is a space invaders type of cabinet if I recall. Most of these are done adequate to great, and I can't think of a single one I don't like because of the due to programming/implementation. There might be other games with more arcades, or focus on a specific niche and do it in a flashier style, there's more than enough here done well to keep anyone happy. All these games are in various arcades and locations around a small island. Where you have a little life simulator to engage with if you wish. Survival mode adds a layer of very light health/energy/curfew mechanics, but I mean very light. It's not difficult nor was it meant to be. Still, it gives you more of a reason to engage with some of the secondary locations and activities like doing chores for extra cash. Islandville itself is put together in a very solo dev ramshackle type of way. Most obvious example being the simple robots instead of people being much easier to animate. It could even turn people off. I find it charming though. Like a community theater play where some of the very visible seams in artifice is part of the charm. There's just a nice atmosphere around the island and if you're the type of person to just enjoy chilling and roaming around an area you'll likely love what it has to offer. Currently, the recent 1.0 release has caused a lot of commotion. Not all of it good. Some of the bugs and issues are the type there are no excuse for. If this were any other developer it would make me reluctantly mark No for recommended. If I hadn't played this game for years and know how the dev works it might have still been a No. However I'm reasonably confident the game will be patched up and become overall better than the legacy branch by a large margin. Devotid has always been a slow, steady, sometimes silent, but always dependable developer. If that's enough to turn someone away I'd understand.

Never uninstalled this game and I always come back to it.

Sold plushies to the pawn shop, couldn't pick up one of the plushies off the floor and couldn't collect my money. Also used the food vending machine all in the pawn shop and it wouldn't let me collect the cheesy poofs. I tried resetting the controls and still nothing. Saved the game then exited after saving and started up the game again, my whole save file is completely gone.
