admittedly, i was a person who strongly despised this game. i was under the influence that this game was nothing more than an incest lover's paradise, and i was far too stubborn to try it myself, and form my own opinion - don't be like me, never ever! if you're curious about this game, i beg you to at least try it once. even if your means of experiencing tcoaal are through watching gameplay from a friend/yt walkthrough, or simply buying the game yourself, and refunding it if you found it a waste of time.
one of my best friends fell in love with this game around a year ago as i write this review, and i was left curious as to what could've possibly piqued his interest. a few days ago, i finally got around to playing this game myself with low expectations in mind. i ended up playing for HOURS straight, and quickly understood what caused him to fall in love this game. i eventually bought it for myself, and now i'm currently playing even more; unlocking achievements, experiencing different routes, and discovering hidden content.
while i don't think tcoaal is the greatest masterpiece to ever grace the planet, and has changed my life forever, i don't at all think it's total trash, not worth paying attention to. i quite love it, just the way it is. it's off-putting and disturbing, but also quirky on occasion, and somewhat charming in its own ways. in a sense, this reminds me a lot of old 2000s/2010s creepypasta games. i swear, i mean that in the BEST way possible.
i strongly believe this game's widely misunderstood by haters of this game, and "larpers" who treat this game as an incestuous goldmine. it's not any of that. the coffin of andy and leyley follows the story of ashley, and her older brother andrew. you get to experience the the misfortune of facing the sibling's traumas, and observe their sanity increasingly slip first-hand. these events are what causes a lot of the game's infamously misinterpreted moments. tcoaal, to its very core, is a story that's dark, tragic, and plain sad. it can get to the point where some of the game's most comedic moments between the two siblings might just fill you with a sense of emptiness or despair, due to ashley and andrew becoming so far gone in such a short time of playing.
i genuinely believe there's a lot of content worth discussing and analyzing within the coffin of andy and leyley, but i've never seen anybody do it. one day, i hope the reputation of this game is repaired - i hope more people will experience this game for all it has to offer, and i hope fans won't have to face such gross and harmful labels slapped onto them by a loud majority of haters.
