How I spent 14 hours on this is beyond me. Has something but it's just not enough. Some fun gameplay, decent art but too repetittive and tedious.
Not only an amazing game, but part of an incredible trilogy. Played multiple times, only wish that there was more of this universe to see. 10/10
10/10 story, worldbuilding and vibes. Combat is not amazing, but it is good enough to not get in the way of enjoying the awesome story and decision making. If the combat was better, this would be one of the best games of all time. The mechanic where turns are forced to alternate one yours and one enemy is especially counter-intuitive and just awful. It makes it so if there is 2 enemies left and 6 allies, one enemy will act 3 times per one ally. This causes that in a situation that looks fine as a 1v1, the enemy just hits you 3 times in a row and kills you, making it almost impossible to close out a battle without 1 or 2 dead, and then you're punished by getting injured. Again REALLY BAD mechanic that forces you to do counter-intuitive things like leaving enemies alive instead of killing them on purpose. In every single other tactical game you wanna single out an enemy and kill it kick, here you need to spread damage to get their strength low without killing them... again, super counter intuitive and immersion breaking.
Fantastic story and atmosphere with fun strategy combat. Worth playing all 3 games.
i wanted to like this game i really did. but it boils down to the inability to save when i want. that lack of player choice has killed this whole series for me. I would be given choices out of the battlefield that would kill my heros if i make the wrong choice...in a game where every resource is scarce and gameplay is intentionally difficulty i feel this lack of a save option just adds an entirely unpleasant level of tedium that makes the game not fun. I bought all three games while they were on sale, my mom passed away that day so i was not feeling up to playing video games until recently. i then found out that steam has a 2 hour and a 2 week return policy or else i would be returning the other two games (obviously put in more than 2 hours on the first title trying to enjoy it) pros: * the game has a really interesting story and great character development * the art style is great * I really like the mechanic that as you are damaged (less health points) the less damage you are able to dish out. makes sense and adds a fun element to the standard tactical battle of most games mehs: * they introduce a unique mechanic that gives a huge advantage to the team with the smaller number of units which seems like a nice balancing mechanic but in action just means every battle is just a series of knocking everyone down to one health before killing everyone. cons: * killing characters outside of combat with dialog options * no ability to save and huge gaps between check points Like i said I really wanted to like this game and it has many cool features that draw me in but the fact that it wont let me "save scum" is very disappointing in a title as intentionally difficult and has such strong unintended consequences to your actions. if the option to "iron man" the game was there and the developers gave the option to everyone else to just play the game, this could be a wonderful series. and if that doesn't discourage you this will likely be a wonderful game for you
