About
You have crash-landed on a lethal, radiation-soaked planet, and you are running out of time. A scorching sun that burns everything in its path is coming your way. Your only hope of survival is a massive mobile base too complex for one person to operate. You are forced to make a decision no human has ever faced: creating a crew of alternative versions of yourself.
But your solution may just become your biggest problem.
You crashed. You are entirely alone. The sun is a death sentence, and your mobile base must keep moving to outrun it. With no rescue coming, you must find a way to operate it, or you’ll die.
When the planet itself is your enemy, every second spent standing still brings you closer to ash.
To survive, you must move. To move, you need help. Forced to use the base’s advanced quantum technology and the planet’s unique resources, you must create The Alters: alternative versions of yourself. Brought to life by a supercomputer that turned your alternative life choices into reality, they are your only hope. They bring the specific expertise and capable hands you drastically lack, but they also bring their own human baggage.
A crew of ‘yourselves’ is a psychological nightmare. Every Alter arrives with distinct personalities, memories, and regrets. You aren't just managing resources. You are also a relationship manager to yourself, mediating conflicts and confronting your past choices lightyears from home.
As tensions rise, your Alters will clash over how to handle the mission. Keep them sane and keep them together, or your own egos will destroy your only chance of seeing Earth again.
Your rolling base is your lifeline, your factory, and your home. Customize and upgrade it to accommodate your growing crew. Research cutting-edge technologies, manage crucial life-support gear, and manufacture what you need to survive. Turn your base into a self-sustaining powerhouse capable of keeping both your crew fed and your systems humming.
You cannot hide inside the hull forever. To fuel your base and progress your research, you must step out onto the hostile planet's surface. Venture out into unpredictable anomalies and heavy radiation to mine essential resources.
But watch the clock, as every expedition is a high-stakes gamble against the oncoming burning sunrise.

Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The alters is genuinely a really good game concept. I played through it and got to act two. I enjoyed a lot of the storyline it was different, I really liked the character, and base management. The one of the frustrating things honestly for me was the choice in act two you have to make that changes your alters lives and opinions of you. You can contact Lena to help with this choice, it was super irritating that Lena doesn't even believe the player (Jan) at first when you try to tell her what's going on. Jan and her had been married before. You'd think there would at least be a little bit of trust between them, considering their relationship didn't even really end on terrible terms. They just sort of seem to grow distant and they both knew. They seemed to both know each other well enough though in my opinion that it seemed like Lena wouldn't accuse Jan (The player character) of lying. The thing that made me stop playing though was the glitches, one in particular that really irked me, it was the resource glitch where your inventory thinks it needs to reverse more resources than it really does. So you have a bunch of resources in reserve, YOU CAN'T EVEN TOUCH😭 It made me have to restart my game which really discouraged me I think from finishing my playthrough. Another was Pylons randomly disconnected (this happened once or twice and I fixed it had nothing to do with previous reserved resource glitch I checked.) Another was a beer pong game glitch where it plays autonomously and you continue to miss the entire time unable to aim. The last two were small inconveniences though compared to the ghost resources. As soon as the developer patch this glitch to ensure their game doesn't get ruined for players I would totally consider coming back and finishing it though because the concept is abstract and fun to play around with.
I love survival/resource management/base building games, but I usually have little interest in narrative games because, to be honest, I find a lot of video game writing to be subpar. Also, I think it doesn't play to the strengths of the medium, which, in my opinion, is emergent stories that come from the player playing the game. Think of crazy stories your friend tells about a Battlefield match, or how you narrowly survived a raid in RimWorld. Nobody sat down and wrote that story; it emerged from the game's parameters for what can happen and your choices as a player. So, I was skeptical of The Alters at first because it had the stuff I liked, but with a narrative story wrapper. I didn't grab it at first, but, eventually, the positive reviews from critics who have similar sensibilities about gaming as I do, and the good aesthetics I saw from reviews and marketing overcame me and I copped it at $15 and I'm glad I did. The survival mechanics do not feel tacked on at all or underdeveloped as I expected them to feel. They aren't as complex as RimWorld or Oxygen Not Included, but they don't need to be because you aren't going to drop 1,000 hours in the game trying to hyperoptimize your base. The writing is actually much better than most video game writing. Not Disco Elysium "This is high literature!" levels, but impressive and substantial enough to pull at my heartstrings and make decisions carry weight. The characters are interesting and have depth and are distinct enough to make it interesting. You may even find that one of them annoys you, which makes sense because being cooped up with a group of people, you're bound to have some tension with one or two, even if they are clones of yourself. The graphics are splendid. I will say, however, that while it is playable on Steam Deck, it ain't pretty. I get textures popping in and out, even when I lower the settings. I love my Steam Deck, but I would recommend a beefier device to have a satisfying experience with The Alters. Overall, zero regrets about buying this. I'm almost at the end of Act 2 and I'm eager to see this one out.
Ta guapo
The Alters feels like The Martian movie turned into an immersive, wonderfully crafted, story-driven, survival game. The story unfolds naturally, one piece at a time. Every step of the introduction lays the foundation for a new sci-fi experience centered around duplication technology, which makes you want to explore non-stop. I really enjoyed the interaction with the first Alter; fixing a relationship with a branching dialogue with visual feedback about the NPC's feelings is a nice touch. I am four hours in, and I can't wait for the next session.
Good solid game.
