Terra Nil is an intricate environmental strategy game about transforming a barren wasteland into a thriving, balanced ecosystem. Bring life back to a lifeless world by purifying soil, cleaning oceans, planting trees, and reintroducing wildlife, then leave without a trace.

Picked this up after a very overwhelming week took me out and I needed a game to help me reset. Relaxing but not brainless, requires just enough attention to detail and some patience: just the right level of challenge. Not a detailed ecosystem builder, if you're looking for that, but a solid strategy puzzler with a lovely green twist of a premise. Cleaning up each map at the end is supremely satisfying.

This is a really beautiful little game, I just wish there was more of it! The puzzles are challenging without being impossible, and the visuals and sound effects are very satisfying. I was pretty disappointed to see that there will be no more major updates.
I don't know whether the game industry changed so much or me as I got older, but I'm so rarely captivated by games these days. This game gave me that feeling. It's so profound and poetic in its simplicity.
I like the premise, but I spend half the time of every level trying to take blurry photos of animals hiding in the trees I planted, and then hunting for buildings for clean up. This gets tiresome REALLY quickly. Why not make these optional or less tedious?
The game is a solid 7/10. There's not really any depth or strategy to it, although some situations might be more difficult then others, especially when having new information revealed because of mechanics you haven't been exposed to before. It's short, probably 15-20 hours of play time (I left my open and AFK for extended periods). What the game does do very well is novelty. It's really not a concept that has been touched on before and the execution of express the concept of restoring a planet after humanity has abandoned it is great. So overall it's a cozy, easy game, with a novel experience.
The mechanic of having to take photos of certain animals, groups of animals, biomes and so on with a certain rating on them before you are allowed to move on to the next section has to be one of the worst game mechanics I've ever come across. It's incredibly frustrating as the game goes on and I end up having to spend way too much time trying to get the star photos in order to move on. An otherwise very pretty and relaxing game rendered deeply frustrating by a single game mechanic that doesn't need to be there.
Super fun concept, but full of bugs even years after release. I'm writing this while unable to complete a level because of these bugs. I keep coming back to the game hoping the bugs will get fixed, because I like the chill methodical gameplay, but after two years, the problems remain.
It's fun and unique, right up to the point you are forced to take pictures of animals. First, the camera used to take pictures is so zoomed in every picture looks the same, second the animals are often covered by vegetation making them hard to find, and third you cannot progress through the level until you take pictures of animals that are happy, which often you have no control over as they are spawned dynamically and have requirements you were not even aware of until the end, when you have already begun removing buildings. It's not fun, it's a chore, and it grinds the game to a halt in the worst way possible. If for some reason you think taking ♥♥♥♥♥♥ zoomed in pictures of hard to see animals sounds fun, then it's probably the game for you.
