It's a deckbuilding game with rpg elements. One full run consists of 3 separate areas with monsters and boss which opens the 4th area for the "final" boss; there are 9 available characters to play with (3 from mage school, 3 from range and 3 meelee school) = there is a lot of replayability and sidequests, huge storyline - I did 47 hours to get all achievements and passed the "game" with each char and still haven't completed all quests (2 were still open) - anyways, highly recommend this game, really casual and enjoyable p.s. almost every class/char has a broken/op combo
I bought this because a roguelike + deckbuilder with more of a story and characters sounded interesting. However after ~2 hours across my desktop and Deck, the game hasn't hooked me and probably won't. 1) The starting class is boring, and there's a grind to unlock the other interesting classes. Having a variety of classes is cool, but why gate them? 2) There's a darkness/candle mechanic that adds very little to the game. This is exasperated by the poor choice to have a 3D world where you run between encounters. It feels like every C-tier ARPG where your character "slides" around between guardrails. Roguelikes are about grinding combat encounters, so wasting time running around gets old, fast. 3) Poor performance on my Desktop, and it doesn't look that good on the Deck even though it's Verified. I've had to force-quit on the Deck numerous times because the game freezes while loading a new run, a disaster for a roguelike. 4) Meta-progression is lame. Resources accrue slowly & you have to hunt around for NPCs, who are placed in different spots each run. Between the unsatisfying combat and annoying traversal, it feels like a bloated experience. No "just one more turn" feeling. If you strip away the production, it's not a fun game to actually play.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Tainted Grail is an ambitious and atmospheric role-playing game developed by Awaken Realms Digital that melds dark fantasy storytelling with deep survival mechanics and tactical combat. Based on the board game of the same name, this adaptation immerses players in the haunting, Celtic-inspired world of Avalon—a land steeped in myth, mystery, and encroaching darkness. From the outset, Tainted Grail sets itself apart with a richly layered narrative that explores themes of despair, hope, and the fragility of humanity in a land on the brink of collapse. The game challenges players not only with brutal enemies and complex moral choices but also with the relentless demands of survival, creating an experience that is as thought-provoking as it is unforgiving. The storytelling in Tainted Grail is one of its greatest strengths. The game presents a sprawling, open world filled with intricately woven lore, branching dialogues, and morally gray decisions that impact both the narrative and the fate of the world. Players take control of a party of up to three characters, each with their own backstory, motivations, and unique skills. The characters’ personalities and relationships evolve over time, influenced by the choices made during quests and interactions with the world. The writing is evocative and often somber, successfully conveying the sense of a dying land plagued by both supernatural forces and human folly. The narrative unfolds in a way that encourages exploration and reflection, often challenging players to question their own ethical compass. Survival mechanics are tightly integrated into the gameplay loop, adding tension and realism to the experience. Hunger, fatigue, and injury are persistent concerns that must be managed alongside combat and exploration. Players must scavenge for resources, craft essential supplies, and decide when to rest or push onward, balancing risk and reward in every decision. This layer of survival enhances immersion, grounding the game’s fantasy elements in a gritty, unforgiving reality. It also raises the stakes for each encounter, as poor resource management or reckless choices can quickly lead to dire consequences. The survival aspect reinforces the game’s somber tone and makes every victory feel earned. Combat in Tainted Grail is a tactical affair, demanding careful planning and smart use of each character’s abilities. Battles take place on grid-based maps where positioning, terrain, and timing are critical. Players must consider not only offensive moves but also defensive strategies, such as blocking, dodging, and using the environment to their advantage. The diversity of enemies—from twisted beasts to corrupted humans—requires adapting strategies and making meaningful use of the party’s skill synergies. While combat can be challenging, it is rarely unfair, and the game rewards patience and thoughtful execution over brute force. The tactical depth of the battles adds an engaging strategic layer that complements the narrative and exploration elements. The world design and art direction contribute significantly to the game’s eerie and immersive atmosphere. The environments are richly detailed, featuring gloomy forests, crumbling villages, mist-covered lakes, and ancient ruins that evoke a sense of melancholy and decay. The visual style combines realistic textures with stylized elements to create a unique aesthetic that captures the mythical and haunted nature of Avalon. Dynamic weather effects and day-night cycles further enhance immersion, impacting both the ambiance and gameplay. The haunting soundtrack and ambient sound design heighten the mood, weaving an auditory tapestry that underscores the game’s themes of loss and mystery. Despite its many strengths, Tainted Grail is not without flaws. The game’s pacing can feel uneven at times, with certain quests or exploration segments dragging longer than necessary, occasionally interrupting the narrative momentum. Some players may find the survival mechanics overly punishing or cumbersome, especially early on, which can lead to frustration. Additionally, the user interface, while functional, can sometimes be clunky or unintuitive, making inventory and resource management less smooth than desired. There are also occasional technical hiccups and bugs that, although not game-breaking, detract slightly from the overall polish. Ultimately, Tainted Grail stands out as a richly crafted and emotionally resonant RPG that offers a unique blend of storytelling, survival, and tactical combat. It demands patience and strategic thinking from players, rewarding those who invest the time to delve into its dark, immersive world. Its compelling narrative, complex characters, and atmospheric design create an experience that lingers long after the game is over. While it may not cater to everyone due to its challenging mechanics and somber tone, fans of deep, thoughtful RPGs and dark fantasy will find Tainted Grail a haunting and memorable journey into a land where every choice carries weight and every shadow hides a story. Rating: 8/10
Best <10 bucks spend on a game in at least last few years for me. First impression - oh, another slay the spire clone. Boy that was a wrong one. The visual style and ost create such a unique blend of ambient which hits those Berserk, Witcher and Norse notes so well - that I'll get the ost as well. If you like rogue lites and enjoy non ordinary presentation - take it while it's on a such deep sale!
I'm not even a big fan of deckbuilding games, but I loved Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon so much I just needed to try this one out, too. And yeah, this is me after pouring over 40 hours in a game of a genre I never enjoyed much. At first, my expectations weren't high because this was also the studio's (Questline) first game as far as I know, and it looked a bit janky at first. Never been a huge fan of these games where RNG has way too much weight (pretty much all deckbuilding games to be fair) either, so I was expecting more of a "well, at least this gave me a bit more insight into their Tainted Grail universe" experience. Then I got hooked to the point of not playing anything else until I finished it. The atmosphere, the visual style, the great soundtrack, the grotesque enemies, the exquisitely crafted feel of being just a faint light in the middle of an unfathomable dark mist full of horrors and unknown potential encounters... this has been quite a fascinating ride. Gameplay wise it has been really interesting, too, unlocking new elements and cards and realising the potential combos one could unleash with enough planning and luck. Being able to choose between different new cards when gaining a level also lets you decide which way you want to play each run, even if some character classes (there are 9 different, plenty of variety) will feel like only one way is actually viable. Runes are also a cool touch, and like with most elements of the game, you get a feel of progression the more you play, since you will keep completing quests and gaining access to new or better goodies. At first, some elements like fusing runes would look like a nonsensical mechanic you can almost never use, but after several runs and a couple unlocks, you will end actively looking for that rune you lack in order to make its ultimate version fusing 9 of the same, not even realizing how you are just obliterating even enemy forces you considered tremendously hard a few runs ago. So, having played the incredible Fall of Avalon and now this welcome surprise, I can say I'm totally invested in this Tainted Grail setting now. I'm ready for what comes next from Questline, and here is my absolute recommendation to play their Tainted Grail games.
This game is great. Fantastic music that I listen to years later. interesting deck building mechanics, a unique world style that sets it apart from other deck builders. the lore is interesting for those who want to dive into it.
This game has a lot going for it but it just feels so clunky in a way that feels disruptive to runs. Wandering around a 3d map and the length of the animations, while by no means poor quality, just feels like I'm spending time not playing the actual game. It feels like this game was developed as a side project while they were working on one of their other games.
👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑⠀⠀⠀

Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
 Follow Third group
and discover more reviews from me.
great game...I wish the blood mage and the necromancer - which IMO are just variations of the summoner - would not spend blood (or be inflicted blood) to use their cards; health is just too rare in each run. But maybe I just do not understand how to play them. The summoner is great though...and the rest are quite ok too
