Super hard platformer, really nice nostalgia trip. 10/10
A real interesting idea, unfortunately, I just bounced off of it. Might be for you, but I couldn't get into it for some reason. A shame, because it's seems well put together.
Made it to the 3rd console and quit after the 8th unpredictable mid-jump pit. Would have been nice to learn about the fall-jump at the beginning when it was first available instead of having to google it out of necessity 20 levels later. The bones of this game are good, but it fails completely at communicating what abilities are available and where to go. It's either a mean troll of a game or ignorantly designed. Hard pass.

I really like this game. It's a retro blast from the past, a production emulating your trip down a memory lane from a perspective of a "Pixel" character going throught all of levels emulating the style of various eras of gaming. I've completed this game in 2016 or sth like that. I'd say that it's not much of a game as it is an experience to go through for fans of video games. Yes, early eras levels are crappy and hard but that has it was back in a day:) I'd say go for it if you're a fan of video games. For this price it's a great trip down a memory lane. I mean, it's a part of gamers history after all, thanks to the authors for making this small game/experience back in a day. It's worth it.
Sin siquiera tener en cuenta el homenaje que hace a la historia de los videojuegos es un muy buen plataformas. Lopez Rega, anote el nombre del jueguito.
It's got more in common with troll games than retro gaming despite its presentation. The majority of the difficulty comes from not being able to see far enough away (in all directions) so you slide between the timings on the retractable spikes or fast moving platforms, and that makes a single mistake mean doing a several minute level over again. Jump height is fixed for added challenge, but not with a short hop like in 1001 Spikes. The movement and control responsiveness are great, but the levels exist to be memorized and the latter half is just far too long. Half or so of this game is decent, then the rest just exists to frustrate players. It's retro jank not worth your time.
At-A-Glance:
Game type: Platformer Genre(s): Educational, games-about-games Art: Graphics based on the qualities and requirements of contemporary gaming systems Length: Medium (6-10 hours) Pace: Medium-paced Tags: History of video games, graphical evolution, pick-up-and-play, retro Computer requirements: Low-end
Notes:
[olist] [*] The game presents itself as exploring the evolution of games and gaming systems. This is not true: it is a platformer game with the aesthetic of historical systems. [*] The game doesn't seem to know whether it wants to be educational (in the sense of educating you about classic gaming systems and the tropes that were present) or an out-and-out platformer. It feels like both ideas are halfway accomplished. [*] The platforming levels themselves are pretty fare-bones. [*] The aesthetics of the classic gaming systems are amazingly well-crafted, even if they're obviously smoother than the originals! I am impressed at how well "Super Life of Pixel" captures the look and feel of these older games, and how each level integrates that aesthetic. I just wish those levels integrated more of the kinds of games released on those systems instead of pasting them into other platforming. [*] I like the concept, though I dislike the execution. But I really, really like the concept. [/olist]
I LOVE PIXELS SO I LOVE THIS GAME
Fun premise, good music and a very nice and proper art style. However, I'm still glad I didn't back this when it first appeared on Kickstarter ages ago. It is at its core very superficial, and most of its content has been done before, and better (by Renegade Kid, to mention one). That said, I'd still recommend it for the want-more-crowd, if it weren't for broken 'cheevos. A LOT of broken cheevos. For a game like this, that feels like a cardinal sin. I'm guessing this has to do with leaderboars and server synchronizing, but couldn't those be on an opt-in-basis for a game like this, with a couple of years on it? Anyhow, it just soured the rest of the experience for me, making all other less-than-stellar-aspects that much more glaring.
