Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.89/day in the week to Aug 4 → 3/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 25: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

the best final fantasy game in the series. It's not even close. Unfortunately there's nothing else like it. It's a gem that feels like it was made in the mid 2000s but came out now. The combat is fun, the classes are fun, and the game actively wants you to break it. It's peak. Kill chaos.
I'm here to kill Chaos. That's all I know.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a based game. Coop, tense boss fights that reward execution and knowledge, what more could you ask for? The game is fully playable in Coop, and that’s how I mainly played the game. I played the game on Hard difficulty as well as Chaos difficulty as of the time of writing.
Story
The main character is Jack, an angry man who can’t remember anything at all and only desires to kill “Chaos”. He is accompanied by Jed, a quippy young man, Ash, a wise and thoughtful fighter, Neon, a girl who also only has faint memories of places she may have been to, and they are later joined by Sophia as well, a smart woman who similarly desires nothing but Chaos’ fall. The story of this game is simple on paper but its execution is wonky, told through constant memory flashbacks and characters discussing their memories and their next target. Those memories don’t quite make sense at first, so the story can come off as jumbled and incoherent. The game’s final hours are full of twists and turns and elevate the writing significantly, but this is not a game with a story that will tug at your heart strings, especially when you compare it to other Final Fantasy games. One thing the story most definitely nails though in terms of writing is the tone: The game plays everything straight, but the delivery and presentation make it charming. Jack is just a really funny character. You may have seen him described as an edgelord elsewhere and the game makes no secret out of it: He curses, he is only interested in his target and treats everyone like a means to an end even when he secretly cares about them. Jack was a major reason I wanted to keep going with the game’s story. He is hilarious and sometimes unpredictable. There is a reason he is such a meme icon in the FF community. The right word to describe the writing is "sincere". The story’s biggest flaw is how incoherent it can be—sometimes you’ll have no idea what’s happening even if you pay attention. Some players may find this oddly compelling alongside the excellent gameplay, but if narrative clarity matters to you, it’s a real drawback. The ending made it worthwhile for me and while I liked the story, the story-TELLING is not all that great. For what it is, SoP’s story is inoffensive though, and a fun ride.
Gameplay
SoP’s gameplay is the game’s greatest strength and as a gameplay experience, it excels on nearly every level. After some deliberation, I would go as far as to say that it has the best action-based combat system in the Final Fantasy series. Though this is not the first game to try their hand at action combat (XV, XVI and VII Remakes come to mind) I am confident in saying that it has a far more thought-out system than all of them. You have a parry and a guard button. A daring, experienced player might go for parries, even some riskier ones, but the game lets you fill support roles or let you fight from a distance to a degree as well, especially with later jobs that give you more options. The combat is excellent — managing MP and stamina keeps you engaged, job-switching mid-fight is satisfying, and parrying or absorbing spells feels great. New jobs continually add variety, with weapon combos carrying over so builds stay flexible without locking you into one path. SoP lets you fight with a fully customizable party with dozens of jobs that fundamentally change how you'd approach combat. It pays a lot of reverence to the mechanics of older FF games. Magic is a powerful and useful tool in SoP for buffs and damage. The game excels at letting characters serve their role and makes every job feel useful in their own specific niches. The game lets you switch between two jobs mid-combat to tend to your party's needs and to dish out as well. Even if you're bad at parrying you can assist your damage-dealing party in the back row with support spells or by using a rifle (though I recommend learning the patterns and to parry) The game offers a huge variety of weapons—each with unique moves and abilities—which keeps combat fresh and encourages experimentation. As you level jobs, you unlock advanced and expert classes, making progression consistently satisfying. This system was addictive enough that it kept me pushing through quests even more than the story did. The meaningful party system made the game perfectly suitable for coop. You can finish the entire game with 2 more friends. If you want a Final Fantasy game that you can finish with a buddy or two buddies, this is THE game to get. The battle system rewards teamwork and coordination. The locations in this game are based on locations of other Final Fantasy games, but don't always lift those locations wholesale. So while some of the music and imagery can evoke a sense of nostalgia for older FF titles, it's not always that blatant and you can enjoy this game without really knowing the older games. As a lifelong fan, I appreciated seeing some familiar dungeon themes and hearing new versions of classic FF music. Not everything is perfect. The menus are surprisingly unintuitive. Nearly every screen changes what each button does, leading to hours of misclicks while learning the layout. The system for fashion gear is especially clunky—you have to make a preset just to use it for fashion, separate from your actual combat loadout. It works, but it’s far more convoluted than it needs to be.
Difficulty
For my playthrough, I chose “HARD” as my difficulty. Playing on Hard was fun, rewarding, but never felt trivial. There are some abilities and jobs that make you think you can use them all the way to the end with little issue, and an experienced player could do so. There are however plenty of boss fights that require your attention and ask more of you than to just mash the attack button and guard occasionally: A good parry at the right time and casting Hastega on the whole party when the boss is most vulnerable to get the most damage out of the situation can really be the make-or-break when fighting a boss - and that is just one way of doing it. SoP handles difficulty far better than other recent FF titles. You can choose a challenging mode from the start, for one. Here, Hard mode feels fair, demanding attention. It gave me moments of triumph and also plenty of knowledge checks to overcome, and the same was true for my co-op partner, which made the experience more rewarding. For the postgame content, the game unlocks "Chaos" and "Bahamut" difficulty. After beating the game I would recommend setting the difficulty to Chaos and to replay levels to break the job level limit until you can reach Level 99. From there, you can then tackle the DLCs with improved gear and better build opportunities.
Pros
• Arguably the best action-based combat in the series, deep and thoughtfully designed. • Robust job system with tons of variety, meaningful roles, and satisfying progression. • Huge weapon variety with distinct movesets. • Excellent co-op mode that allows the game to be completed with friends and rewards teamwork. • Fair Hard Mode, with well-designed difficulty that encourages learning and adaptation. • Jack’s personality and tone are unintentionally funny, giving the story a unique charm. • Lots of subtle callbacks to older FF titles without coming off as pointless pandering to nostalgia.
Cons
• Story is incoherent for much of the game, with confusing memory fragments and unclear direction, though it contains some great surprises. • Menus are confusing and overly complicated, with inconsistent button functions and a cumbersome system for managing appearance gear, among other annoyances.
Should I buy this?
The combat and the coop are fantastic. The story is clumsy and fumbles a little in execution, but it's also very entertaining. I would ultimately recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a rich and challenging RPG experience

DIdn't expect much. Am absolutely having a good time switching between and leveling each of the combat styles and getting in the flow of combat. The story is just present enough and doesn't overshadow the gameplay at all. On the Steam Deck this is a perfect pick up, play, stop at a checkpoint if needed, pick up and continue experience. If you want a Final Fantasy themed action game, this is it, it's fun and it does work on steam deck as long as you are using Proton GE to fix the cinematic instability. There has only been on stage so far where I've needed to reduce the texture to low for it to load properly but otherwise I've been pleasantly surprised with this one. Other than that my general recommendation would be to lock the game to 30 fps on the deck, but set the deck's cap to 60 and use lossless scaling to get smooth presentation (I have not noticed much artifacting or input delay from this title when doing this but everyone's experiences will vary). I have not tried this on my laptop but am including the specs as it should be more than enough for this title.
good game but runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with annoying stutters. expect to need third party fixes to get it to run properly. typical team ninja game
All I care about is seeing Chaos dead. I need to. It's not a hope or a dream. It's like a hunger. A thirst.
this is honestly the best video game ever made
