Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

Picked this game up on a whim and I'm absolutely loving it. Despite not knowing anything about the star ocean franchise this game was super easy to get into.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 1: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.78/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The classic game you remember, but better somehow. Polish and QoL improvements abound, but the simple charm at the game's core still shines.
If youre not a fan of flashy combat that is all about looks with no real substance avoid. The game looks great and early combat was mediocre but not bad. Once you start fighting hard enemies or have to switch to spell casters... look out. The combat goes straight into the trash. I never played the original so I dont know how true the combat is but I really wish for the days of turn based JRPG combat. Be warned OGs this game does NOT have turn based JRPG combat. Its action combat and its VERY limited.

I just beat the game and. . .Wow. How the HELL is this overwhelmingly positive? Is it just from the people with nostalgia of the original? Well, I have no such nostalgia, so this is all face value. first, the gameplay. Nothing new here. . .Which, is to be expected, fair. You travel around from town to town getting gear and stuff to get stronger. Open treasure chests, get items you'll probably never use, rinse and repeat. I don't even know where to begin with talents. You level up, get experience, and then these points to invest in skills and stuff. Unfortunately if you want to unlock a certain talent, you have to invest points into some pair of OTHER things that raise stats. . .it's all just so needlessly convoluted. Why the hell am I going to cook? Why the hell am I going to duplicate items? Why the hell is "orchestra" a thing? And it's all just dumped on you. It wasn't until later that I even found out buying equipment from towns is just useless because you have to use a single character at a max talent level to just bonk ores and pray RNG gives you a good weapon. The combat. . .Is awful. It's just awful. When the enemies are too tough, chances are, it's because your gear sucks. Nope, you aren't going to read any telegraphed attacks, or bullcrap your way through, you're just going to have to either spam items, or pray your stupid teammates do SOMETHING differently than last time. And when the enemies AREN'T tough? Just mash the right mouse button....That's literally all I did. Played as Claude the entire game though. Sure, all the pretty lights were satisfying. But come ON. When you get excited when the enemies on the map turn green, and your "bodyguard" effect triggers so you can just farm insane amounts of experience without having to fight any longer, because the fighting is just SO TEDIOUS, there's a problem. Breezed through the entire game on normal difficulty. Will NOT be suffering through the story again for new game+ or hard mode. I'm not freakin' playing it on hard, because it's insufferable when the enemies are too tough, and a snoozefest when they're easy. There's literally no middle ground. Enemy variety is awful, they reuse sprites all the time. [major spoilers ahead] And the story, OH THE STORY.
"...Rena?" "...Claude?" "Rena..." 'Claude...I" SHUT THE ACTUAL HELL UP ALREADY, JUST S T O P. They say the name of the opposite character WAY TOO MANY TIMES, it's such a small gripe, but OH HOW I HATE IT. Whatever, the story starts out innocently enough. You get sent to a planet in some accident, find a girl, are mistaken for a hero wielding a sword of light, blah blah blah. Everything is pretty decent up until the ten wise men show up. (Except for the fact that we're on a planet that doesn't appear very civilized, and yet for some reason there's an announcer with a microphone during the tournament you're scripted to lose, because I love being OHKO'd against enemies who take 0 damage for the giggles) So okay, you meet the ten wise men, and find out the sorcery globe is actually not the plot at all and actually the entire planet is going to be destroyed. And for some stupid reason, the ten wise men do not kill you immediately after discovery, no, we get teleported with them and OH NO THE PLANET IS DESTROYED NOOOOOO and now we're on a new "fake" planet, full of new people, I do not care about. Which is good, because the entire planet ends up getting destroyed anyway because the idiot in charge decided that "eh we're max level already might as well start a new game, all those families with children won't mind lol" so you get to this stupid fake planet, find 4 mcguffins that serve no other purpose than to info dump and be mcguffins, and then OH NO YOUR DAD DIES because his ship takes two hits from a laser and his first reaction is to FIRE BACK DESPITE NOT BEING ABLE TO TAKE ANOTHER HIT, his crew member LITERALLY TELLS HIM THEY CAN'T TAKE ANOTHER HIT and he's like "screw you" and ATTACKS SOMETHING HE DOESN'T EVEN SEE, INSTEAD OF, I DON'T KNOW, USING FLIPPIN' HYPERSPACE?!?!?! So ok he deserved to die because he's stupid and then after getting the 4 mcguffins, and then losing another scripted fight against the wise men, and then another character I met like once sacrifices herself like i'm supposed to care, and I have to get another mcguffin. . .only to get a weapon called the "Godslayer" which is worse than the weapon I have equipped in every way. But oh its fine now because now I have a stupid orb that lets me "get gud" against the infinity shields then ten wise men have. aaaand about an hour of gameplay later all the wise men are dead. They have their cocky talk, then a single line of "OwO u beat us?!?!?" later. ((also screw PA mode, why tf is that it's own mode, are you TRYING to make building relationships a chore?)) ok anyway you beat the main bad guy who uses something to destroy the whole universe, and then you uno reverse card it and it destroys this fake planet instead, because logic doesn't logic here. like seriously, the entire point of the plot ever since we got to this STUPID FAKE PLANET is to get the ten wise men's city or something back, (which is a tower, not a city) so they can have enough power to reverse time and bring the ORIGINAL planet back BUT THAT GOES OUT THE WINDOW BECAUSE NOW YOUR ENTIRE PLANET IS GOING TO GET DESTROYED aaaand then "it just works" and it's a swap. Fake planet gone, billions dead, new planet back. okay, sweet, can I actually play on the old planet aga- aaaand roll credits. 99 different endings?! No, you just mean 99 different 10 second cutscenes depending on what characters you've collected and WHO YOU'VE ROMANCED. I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. WHERE DID DIAS GO? IT WASN'T EXPLAINED, SHE SAID WE WOULDN'T SEE HIM AGAIN AND SHE WAS RIGHT Like it is so POINTLESS the entire planet is saved, and NOTHING HAPPENS. Nobody cares about the sorcery globe any longer, nothing is shown.
I so badly want to refund this game, I am so ANGRY right now. What a waste of a story. I was expecting maybe a post-game or something, but nope. . .there's nothing more. I am NOT enduring this pain again to get any other endings, or finding any other characters, if THAT'S how the STUPID thing ends. It's horrible, because I feel with just a little more time, a little more thought, it COULD have been a good, worthwhile story. But MY GOODNESS it fumbled the bag HARD after those stupid ten wise men appeared.
It's the greatest JRPG ever made, now with even more accessibility and fun changes.
