The game is very colorful and beautiful, the music is very relaxing, and I really enjoyed the game. I am surprised that such a small team of two people was able to create such a beautiful and amazing game. I would like to express my personal gratitude to the developers for what they have created. First of all, I specifically purchased the game without the current 67% discount to ensure that the developers receive more money.Secondly, I played the first and second parts of the game for all the achievements available on Steam. I really enjoyed the game. I've never played anything better than this. It's impossible to describe my love for this game, but I highly recommend it and wish you all the best, developers! Bau, relaxant, contemplatif et un très bon moment du jeu vidéo sans fioritures inutiles. A faire sans hésiter, surtout après avoir fini un jeu particulièrement difficile ou chargé émotionellement. SotN vous permetrra de "redecendre" et de vous détendre. En somme, un bon petit jeu!

On paper, Spirit of the North has everything it needs to be a relaxing exploration game with just enough mechanics to keep it interesting. In practice, it made me feel more frustrated than with many fast-paced action-packed "sweaty" games. I found this game to be quite bad at giving you hints on what to do next, or even at showing what the current general objective is. The environments are beautiful but they can get a bit disorientating - something I felt right from the first chapter, where I ended up essentially hugging the border of the level until I found the way forward. I think the "make everything mysterious and open to interpretation" dial was pushed too far. Multiple times, I got the feeling I was progressing almost by accident and I was left wondering what side content/"secrets" I had missed. Making matters worse, often, after one moves to the next area (sometimes by accident), there's no way to go back. The controls and some parts of level geometry are sufficiently clunky to make me doubt if I was moving forward and solving puzzles the right way, or accidentally cheesing through the game. You can't save anywhere you want, and there's no telling when the next checkpoint will be. You can replay previous chapters, at least. Besides the nice environments and soundscapes, the other redeeming quality I found is the ability to wag your tail as a fox, using a dedicated button. I found no gameplay purpose for this but it does help to ease off the frustration a bit. It is sadly not enough for me to recommend this game. I ultimately grew tired of just looping around in the same area (in chapter 3, I believe) trying to figure out what should be done next. I felt my time was not being respected. There have been other games where I was sufficiently invested in the story, the characters or the environments to make me bother looking up a guide just so I can see more of the game; this was not one of such cases. Into my collection of games I won't complete, it shall go. (Game received for free in a Fanatical giveaway from November 2024)
