About
You're on a path in the woods, and at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess.
You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world.
She will do everything in her power to stop you. She'll charm, and she'll lie, and she'll promise you the world, and if you let her, she'll kill you a dozen times over. You can't let that happen. Don't forget, the fate of the world rests on your shoulders.
You're not going to listen to him, are you? We're supposed to save princesses, not slay them...
Features
Fully voice-acted by the impeccable Jonathan Sims and Nichole Goodnight.
Hand-penciled art - every background and sprite is drawn traditionally with pencil and paper by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
A princess. She's very bad and you have to get rid of her for all our sakes.
No, the Princess isn't a “cosmic horror,” whatever that is supposed to mean. She's just an ordinary human Princess, and you can definitely slay her as long as you put your mind to it.
Don't even think about trying to romance her. It won't end well for you.
Hopefully you won't die. But if you do, you'll die a lot. Be careful and stay focused on the task at hand!
A branching narrative where what you say and what you believe determines both who you are and how the story unfolds. Though I wouldn’t recommend taking any paths outside of the one I lay before you.
A new roleplaying experience from the creators of Scarlet Hollow.
Slay the Princess is a choice-driven psychological horror visual novel/dating sim with dramatic branching, light RPG elements, and hand-penciled art.
What’s in the Pristine Cut?

Over 35% more content overall—and all of it filled with great opportunities to listen to me and do your job.
A new ending. And hopefully one that saves the world rather than damns it.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

A beautiful, truly incredible game I struggle to put into words without spoiling the premise. Though, the game is so vast and rich that even if I were to describe every scene I loved and every part that spoke to me, there would still be so much to see and explore. Themes of loss, identity, love, relationship to others and the self, perception, grief, and so much more permeate and are expressed wonderfully. The art is incredible. Everything is so stylized and feels fitting for the section your at. Designs feel like they had so much thought put into the personalities behind them, and how perception affects them. The way things are drawn are EXTREMELY relevant as well. How clean the linework stays or how messy it gets. How much color is used versus how little. The ebb and flow of lines and where they're used. Even the way they can pull you into the game. To have a visual novel make me feel actively hunted is impressive. To have it make me recoil in discomfort even when you know what's coming because the art direction was so good. The music as well. The score ALWAYS heightens the feelings occurring in the game, and really gets you enveloped in the world and story. The VAs also did an excellent job. To be able to play the same character over and over, yet have such control and awareness of your own voice to shift and change the tone or inflection for each one is incredible. They're distinct enough I could identity who was who, even if it was not shown on screen. Absolutely incredible work, and they're voices do an incredible job at making the world feel rich and alive. SOMETHING is bound to speak to you, even if its only one part. It covers so much of the human experience, and the various ways things like trauma and change can impact a person. It does it with so much love, nuance, and respect as well. The writing feels top notch, and this has been one, if not my favorite game to analyze and break down. It has SO much too. This game is way bigger, and way longer than you'd ever expect. Even when you think you find it all, there is another unexpected turn, or a winding path you never managed to cross. So, SO worth checking out. I keep it vague so that anyone who may be needing a push to buy, but don't want to be spoiled, can look. Please check this game out. It oozes with so much love, artistry, horror, and tragedy that shows the care and passion everyone who worked on or contributed to the game had. Also, my favorites were Den and Cage. I like them a lot.
im 14 and this is deep
A must play as far as visual novels go. One of the most well written games I've played, and the soundtrack is so good I just be playin that shi sometimes.

To linger on an ending is to rob it of its life.
I was gifted Slay the Princess I think two years ago by a very good friend of mine. I’m happy to tell her that I played it, and loved it so much that I haven’t really stopped thinking about it since. But having replayed it again now, and now that I am a much-grown person, it resonates even more with me. I’m a pretty easy person to make burst into tears, but this time around self-identification with the Princess was painfully easy, and thus the tears were flowing. I do believe that the Princess is one of the best characters in video games, regardless of how she turns out. It’s a love story, I suppose, no matter what happens. Anyway, all of this is to say: Slay the Princess is probably the most important narrative game of the decade, in my opinion. Perhaps that's a bit too hyperbolic, but Slay the Princess, to me, is a genuinely affecting game with a human heart beating loudly right beneath the surface. That's apparent from the very first moments of the game, with the gorgeous art and lilting piano tones that usher you into a well-written, deeply thought-through narrative. The game is fully voice acted – and wonderfully, too – but the prose and art alone are enough to carry the game. Slay the Princess is intoxicating, a work of horror that always twists and turns and becomes more than you think it ever had the capacity to be. It is one of my favourite video games of all time. But with all that YES BUY THIS GAME yelling out of the way, I wanted to talk a little bit about how well the game is actually made, narratively. Choice and consequence in video games is often overblown, simply due to scope. Every choice that is added forces the designer to either concede, this can’t be tracked beyond a surface level, or this game is so horribly long that it will never be finished. Slay the Princess, miraculously, is so tightly wound and constructed that the entire time you’re left wanting more – which is the perfect note to hit. The length of the game and each little route within it is short but meaningfully branching, providing a different experience in subtle ways, even on a twentieth replay. There are so many funny little lines, or meaningful choices or endings that come out of what seem like throwaway dialogue prompts, that the game continues to surprise and delight many hours in. And the horror – everything comes supplanted with genuine, creeping dread, the hope that is sparked by getting to know someone else also always suffused with the knowledge that things end, decay, or can be corrupted by just one poor choice. It is a game that feels like a proper miniature relationship simulator, but cosmically and murder inclined rather than a small slice-of-life. There’s a lot more I could say about it, but I do think that initial statement of mine holds more true at the end of this little review than the start: Slay the Princess is probably the most important narrative game of the decade, in my opinion. Essential playing for anyone who likes video game horror or branching narratives
, or who enjoys being beaten to death by a Princess.
