Area 05
Your road begins in Area 05, an evacuated zone located in the southeastern part of Finland. In Area 05, you will find shelters, traders, tasks, and starting loot for initial survival.
Your peaceful life in Area 05 is often interrupted by hostile Bandits, an anarchist group taking advantage of the lack of authority in the area.
Once you have gathered enough loot and equipment, your road continues toward the east, where you will find the Border Zone, a guarded border line between Finland and Russia.
Border Zone
Each Border Zone map has a crossing point with different challenges. Some crossing points may include mines or physical obstacles, while others require using waterways with boats.
On top of these challenges, the Border Zone is guarded by a group called Guards. These foreign border guards are armed, corrupt, and often rely on air support to prevent people from crossing the border.
Vostok
If you manage to cross the Border Zone, you will enter Vostok. Located in Russia, Vostok is a high-risk, high-reward zone and holds the most valuable loot in the game.
Every Vostok map is a permadeath map. If you die in Area 05 or Border Zone, you only lose the equipment and loot you're carrying, but if you die in Vostok, you lose everything.
Vostok is controlled by the Military, an armed troop with heavy weaponry and the ability to use armored vehicles. The Military faction is the most dangerous faction in the game, and they have one objective: to push you back where you came from.
Time of Day
The game uses a 24-hour day & night simulation where lighting conditions change dynamically with sun and moon cycles. You can manipulate game time by sleeping, but most of the time, you will need to prepare for darkness when roaming through the game world.
Weather
The game has randomized weather states that vary from sunny to dark skies with thunder and everything in between. If you are lucky, you may even see northern lights on a clear night sky.
Seasons
If you survive long enough, the game world will shift from summer to winter, and you will start facing issues related to snow and cold. You can also choose constant summer or winter modes for your playthrough.
Events
On top of the changing lighting conditions and weather, dynamic events occur every now and then in the game world. These events vary from small ambient sounds to aerial events, like airdrops and crash sites, to faction-based special events.
Scavenge
Every playthrough is a different experience where loot and luck are core components of game progression. Scavenge, trade, and craft hundreds of unique items based on real-world parameters and progressive loot tiers.
Loot Systems
The game uses physically-based loot and loot containers, where loot never spawns in the same places. You can find hundreds of loot items in each map, and anything that logically looks like storage for loot is an interactable loot container. You can find consumables, clothing, medical items, tools, electronics, weapons, attachments, and much more.
UI & Inventories
Handling loot and items is done through tetris-style inventories with dynamic icons, item combining, item stacking, and quick actions to make the looting experience seamless part of the game.
In-game Traders
You can trade items with in-game trader characters using an intuitive bartering system. Each trader is specialized in certain themes, like tools, medical supplies, weapons, and furniture.
Bartering
The trading system doesn’t use money and is purely based on bartering. All items are valued based on their post-apocalyptic usage value, where items like medical supplies, food, and even toilet paper might hold high value.
Tasks & Services
Traders can be used for tasks and services like medical care or weapon maintenance. The task system is based on trader levels, and through tasks, you can obtain rare items, unlock new shelters, and get clues to lore-based questions.
Safe Place to Save
Shelters are safe zones and places to store loot. Shelters are the only way to save your game, and you often need to utilize multiple shelters when traveling toward the east.
Multiple Homes
All shelters are different from each other in terms of size and customization possibilities. One shelter may be a small cabin, while another might be a large concrete bunker. Certain shelters are unlocked by default, but some are only available through keys that you need to earn through trader tasks.
Shelter Customization
All shelters have a default template in terms of furniture, but everything is customizable through a decoration mode. This mode can be activated inside the shelter and gives you the ability to modify all furniture-related elements. You can catalog, move, and rotate all existing furniture however you want, and you can acquire new furniture through crafting or trading.
Item Placement
Once you have your preferred shelter layout ready, you are ready to start placing items for storage. You can use furniture containers for storage, but you also have the ability to place individual items wherever you want. All items are physics-based, and once you place them, their positions save automatically when you exit the shelter.
Your Road, Your Character
Road to Vostok is a hardcore survival game, but it doesn’t force you into specific playstyles. You are not forced to enter the permadeath zone, you don’t have to care about the lore, and your character isn’t tied to any specific role or theme.
In some playthroughs, you can be a combat-oriented character with military gear, and in the next, you can be a lonely fisherman playing the harmonica on a remote island.
You create the story, the game provides you the tools.

Boot up game, AI fires upon me, my dum ass rushes the AI result: head completely blown off by his shotgun. 10/10 game
Good
Great game, especially for early access build 1. The game feels expansive. Looting is fun and nerve racking at the same time. Having tasks from Traders keeps the game interesting for now until new builds are released.

Highly will recommend this game, even tho it is not ready, you can clearly see that the developer is developing the game and actively talking to the audience. The game itself is perfect singleplayer replace for tarkov
Game runs really smooth especially for an early access release and the game seems to have a lot of potential but there are some really big issues that I hope will be addressed later down the line with each new build: -lack of any endgame objective/missions -incredibly hard to find sertain ammo for more niche weapons Traders feel almost useless after some point especially the gunsmith where besides topping up on armor or furniture doesn't really offer anything that important and it's extremely bad because you'd expect him to have a chance to sell ammo for the more rare weapons (mp7 and vss ammo) but he doesn't -trader stock remains the same no matter how many tasks you complete for the while the lower tax is nice it doesn't feel as rewarding for the harder tasks like the gunsmith ammo task when he wants some of the rarest ammo in the game (it could be improved if after you turn in some specific tasks the traders inventory gets upgraded to have a chance sell those or similar items as well) -events while there are nice they feel way too rare especially the punisher event where there's additional RNG -weapon verity feels weak especially with some weapons having like 3 difrent versions and it's especially noticable with the Russian military only having an AK-12 as possible weapon -game needs more Russian weapons (rpk-16,bizon,saiga-12...) for the Vostok area and the soldiers there and more attachment types like for grips or different kind of mags (drum mags, extended mags) -npc AI feels way too good (spoting you from a mile away) at times and at other times way too stupid (rushing in to your building blind without even their weapon raised or giving away their position for no reason by yelling) Conclusion: wait for a few more build updates so you can better enjoy the game But even with all that the game has a lot of potential and it's incredible how far it has come considering it's by a single dev and a can't wait to cross off things from my list of issues Keep up the good work Antti and make sure to have some time to rest
Single player Tarkov! Very clearly early access, but it has so much potential! The dev Antti is steadily working on updates, with build 2 now announced and more to come. All in all a great gameplay loop with a few things to polish. I'm happy to see it develop into a great game!

I think I've traveled to Vostok and back enough to give the game an honest review. I can not recommend the game as it is now. However, if you are comfortable with modding, the game will be a lot of fun, for a long time. We have not received any updates for a long time. The dev keeps pushing teasers about upcoming features, but updates are nowhere to be seen. Shortly about the game The game is a lot like easier Tarkov, but expect a lot more walking, since maps are travelled one by one. To reach the "endgame" area, you have to travel through three big areas, four if you need to go on the last one. And considering the current AI of the enemies, its no walk in the park, since they can spot you far away. And i mean far away. Probably a long time before you'll spot them. The ambience and the soundtracks of the game are really good. The sounds of gunshots are pretty loud, louder than they should be, in my opinion. Other than that, sounds are really good. Looting can get pretty frustrating eventually, since quest items are locked behind pure luck, which in my opinion feels more like a chore, than fun exploration. I have pretty much grinded the whole game without mods, so i know what im talking about. The game is fun for the first, maybe even the second time, unmodded, on its current state. The combat feels pretty good and satisfying, but it can be pretty punishing as well. Stealth is pretty much the only valid option, since enemies can drop you pretty fast if you miss, or if they spot you first, unless there's some distance between you and them. Performance is pretty solid, something that other game devs should take notes from. Looks really nice, yet im pretty sure you could run this even on your microwave. Other devs, take notes, this is how you optimize your games. Overall, as i said before, sadly i can not recommend the game on its current state, regardless of the good things. People who buy it, shouldn't have to rely on mods in a game, for the lack of content, considering it came out less than six months ago. I mean, just push some updates out, even small ones, don't just tease the players. Something, anything. The game has really good potential, would be a shame see it go to waste. Will update after possible update/updates.
Needs some work.. I’ve played for almost two hours and haven’t found a single gun. I understand wanting to make a challenging survival sim, but when you’re unable to fight back against enemies without a knife or gun, it doesn’t make for a very fun experience when there isn't any to be found. Pretty much every spawn has been the same, run around checking crates, only to find that they’re empty, then run into an enemy and either let them kill me or run away and continue searching through more empty crates. This game definitely has potential, but it still feels very much like an early access release.
