Receiver was created for the 7-day FPS challenge to explore gun handling mechanics, randomized levels, and unordered storytelling. Armed only with a handgun and an audio cassette player, you must uncover the secrets of the Mindkill in a building complex infested with automated turrets and hovering shock drones.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.

Pros: You'll finally learn how to reload a pistol like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SEAL. Cons: You'll die 50 times trying to put the magazine in the right way before a flying toaster murders you. Worth the pain, you sadist.
One of my favorite FPS games of all time.
amazing game. highly recommend someone to try this experience. its almost like superHOT, but it has its own original story and it came out far before that game did. fully operate the guns and gunplay is actually insanely good once you get the learning curve.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 10: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Nothing more than a concept demo to show off and test guns handling and animations. Although there is somewhat of a skill curve in figuring out how to handle the guns and the two enemy types. On sale it is fun for an evening.
i have 0 idea what im doing but i do enjoy this game even with my little play time it very unique and different if you like this try a game called they killed your cat also i dont know how i got this game i spent like 20 gpb on a game called overgrowth and had this in my libary so if you wanna count that as a free product go ahead
Receiver is a brutally challenging game, and unfair in many ways: one-shots from angles you can't see, drones that move too fast to hit their weak points consistently, RNG that leaves you dry on ammo, and 20-minute stretches of wandering in search of tapes. But it's special too, satisfying gunplay, tense room clearing, and a thought-provoking, if simple, message about waking up from the system's rules. It took me a while to collect all 11 tapes in one run, since there are no checkpoints, and when I finally did, the reward was the game closing itself and telling me to go spend time with my family. 4/5
I like Receiver, have been playing it on and off since it came out. Simple gameplay loop, it's challenging and unforgiving. I love the art style and aesthetics of this game; wandering through this procedurally generated liminal world with the moody, tense music playing is an experience I've not found replicated elsewhere. Nothing like the stress of having absorbed seven tapes and finding a room full of kill drones ahead. The gun handling is satisfying and refined. Learning to load bullets into a magazine, the magazine into the gun, pulling the slide and chambering a round by muscle memory is a great feeling, and really adds to the immersion. I like the simplicity of this game, rather than having dozens of systems and gameplay elements to learn, the game is stripped to it's core; learn to use the guns, learn to disable the kill drones, find the tapes. I tried the second game, but it didn't itch the same scratch that the OG reciever does. It might not have the depth of modern rougelikes or FPS's, but it's great for the occasional run or two in between other games, or session to try and clear the ten tapes. I go by a dollar an hour in value; I've got my money's worth. Game is good. Disappointed to see so many negative reviews trying to bomb a 13 year old indie game for no good reason.
First and foremost, This game is great. Just playing with the guns and roaming around these liminal areas. It's brilliant. What sets this apart for me is how you can quickly fall into a rythm of reloading, cocking the slide, press checking and then firing without the tool tips. No game has made me feel so stressed yet so at peace with the simplicity of it all. That doesn't even include the plot and themes of the game it's self, I haven't been able to afford the second game so I'm unsure if it continues there but what is here is great. An entity controlling this space as you frantically roam around looking for tapes, fighting off drones and turrets. It's genuinely one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had with an indie title since Hollow Knight. Hopefully I can try the second Receiver some day but for now this one is perfect.
This game was made for me. The idea is fantastic. However it fails miserably. The controls are outrageously bad. H3VR absolutely wrecks this game. H3VR is much better but is more recent and it's VR. The controls in receiver are the worst controls i've seen in recent time and I can't imagine paying $20 for a game that is this unfriendly with its controls. I normally choose to play game with intense controls, that require pressing several buttons. But those games make sense at least with their controls. This game makes zero sense with the control. I couldn't figure out how to put my magazine into the gun, and was shocked that it was button "1" or "2". And picking up items? G button, not F, but G. They could have simplified the controls a bit and maybe make one button do a lot of the BS that they have you do, but every key does a specific thing. This game is clsoe to being decent. But completely misses the mark. I'm not a huge fan of the enemies either.
I was excited to play through this, but there's little to no variety on weapons, enemies, and rooms. By 30 minutes you'll see everything this game has to offer. Plus, the appearance of everything except the guns is lackluster at best. The only redeeming quality about this game is the firearm handling, the main focus of this game, and in my opinion the fun will wear down before you get to operate them properly. I really, really wouldn't recommend this, not even on sale. It'll just catch dust on your library.
