Great to see the dev return to this game after so many years. Very cute pirate RPG with crew management mechanics and ship building.
a scam, made by a scammer
Abandonware
As much as I tried, this game is impenetrable. It's systems are just mystical and hidden behind strange menu choices. Just dealing with food is weird, unintuitive, and frustrating. The help doesn't help much, and every way things work in this game is in a way you would not expect. I think the creator is a little too far inside the game to see how inaccessible it is. Case in point: Food is a building object. I keep finding various foods, I found a banana tree, I even bought some citrus fruit. But those items never appeared. Not in Ship Setup, and nowhere else I can find them. To the best of my ability, the only way I could find to check my actual inventory was to go to a shop specific to the type of inventory I want to see? Want to see what items I have? Go to the Items shop. I still don't know how to use those items. You can access your weapons by viewing your crew and changing those out, so that wasn't TOO obscure of a process, but there's just so much that needs polish and better mechanical/UI refinement. This game doesn't want you to play it. There's an "Interact" button at the bottom of the screen, and you sorta bang on that to see if anything happens when you are standing over an item or an object, but at the end of the day, is there a scenario where you wouldn't want to pick something up? Most other things are automatically picked up, like crab meats. No oyster meats though, and remember, these foods don't do anything for the hunger meters, which seems only to be affected by fruit, which seems to just be a made up concept in this game, as I will be damned if I can find the fruit I buy in any usable menu. I wanted to like this game, but it's like trying to fight a pirate: you want to fence and they just want to drink rum and jam your eyes out.
I'm sorry but I'll believe it when I see it. Despite the sappy story Dev told it's a fact that their practices are, to put nicely, less than customer friendly. They put out some small fixes, this is not enough. On top of that the price straight up increased over 2x and the dev released some random DLC. Yeah, I'm very skeptical about this. Seems like an attempt to make more false promises, do some low effort work and get money out of that. I wouldn’t recommend supporting people like that. It’s your money and trust on the line here. (side note: look at the steam page for this creator, they abandoned another project of theirs that is outside of the sappy story, so no blame on others) And the dev is absolutely taking a piss with this pricing. The price is ridiculous for what this is as of right now. Full price if a definite NO from me, even on big sale I'd be cautious. Remember that this game did not get any content (still nothing, fixes aren't content) for something like 8 years and the price is over 2x more now for no reason.
Nice and abandoned.
I do not recommend buying since it's been abandoned for nearly a decade, the developer came back just to farm grattitude and make a kickstarter for the second game (also seemingly abandoned) it has a 1.0 release but it'slacking lots of features and seems it was just published to appease fans and farm more purchases.
2015 is a long time ago and the game feels very 2015. It is a cute & unique game tough and the developer is back to support it so will give a recommendation with the benefit of doubt. The game is buggy and in dire need of polish, but the difference 7-8 years of experience gives a developer is night and day. But if you buy it go into it with some patience, won't be perfect.
