The year is 1983. The world teeters on the verge of destruction as the Cold War tightens its icy grip. East or West: trust no one, question everything. The fate of humanity rests in your hands as you pit spy versus spy in tactical Phantom Doctrine.

From the shadows you lead, a clandestine affair, Every move calculated, in the cold, crisp air. Agents with purpose, each skill a tool, In the world of deception, where shadows rule. From East to West, a global quest, A thrilling espionage, put to the test. Turn-based battles, minds on the line, In this strategic masterpiece, where tactics shine. So, salute to Phantom Doctrine, a spy's delight, Where cloak and dagger dance in the night. A game of wit, a thrilling scene, In the world of espionage, it reigns supreme.
The game develops the X-COM style of tactical combat/management sim by adding a layer of infiltration to the turn-based tactical maps, allowing clever use of stealth to add to, but not obsolete, combat. The world map management is largely responsible and not very deep at first, but grows into a more interesting system of varied possibilities and responses as the player gains more resources to play with. The mood and aesthetic of a game leans heavily on the more fantastical side of spy thrillers and conspiracy, and is a joy in terms of nods to spy fiction and classical Cold War conspiracies. It's often tongue in cheek, such non-lethal KO in combat being appropriately a 1960s judo chop. The game UI is at times unclear or insufficient, but not agonizingly so. Overall, it's a very enjoyable game if you're looking for a moody but occasionally tongue-in-cheek game about managing a secret network of multipurpose spies. I got my copy as a gift from a friend and I've been enjoying pretty much every minute of it.

Nice mechanics, nice concept
It's not bad, but just don't expect XCOM. It's very different. 6-7/10
çok sarmadı ama güzel oyun
Solid XCOM-like turn-based strategy game with a similar "world monitoring campaign" with base building and research, but set during the cold war. Thankfully, I experienced maybe three crashes my entire playthrough (not unusual for any game) and alt-tabbed frequently, so the game for me was very stable. I played on easy and I used stealth primarily, so your experience will vary considerably if you attempt to engage in combat deliberately or more frequently. From what I observed, combat is very challenging and can escalate in difficulty quickly. However, you can beef up your soldiers to compensate, which I neglected, so I don't have a clear idea about how that might even the scales. For the few times I was forced into combat my minimally armored agents did well, just make sure they have grenades and good cover :) Granted save scumming was involved! That said, stealth in this game is very repetitive, and I burned out about 3/4 of the way through, coming back a couple months later to complete the campaign. It became a boring chore to complete missions with my style of play. Waiting for the enemy turn to end or your character's actions to complete can be torturous sometimes, but that's XCOM styled games for you. Most importantly for me is that the game lacks immersive potential: it would be much more compelling if there were a journal or glossary in the game so you could reference the various organizations and characters, and most importantly review the plot of the game (the manual contains some of these details, but I feel it should be in-game, and as far as I know is not). The plot is loosely documented using loading screens, mission explanations, scant cut scenes, and brief audio exchanges. The intelligence tack-board/cork-board is somewhat helpful, but it feels like a chore of a minigame that makes your eyes glaze over pretty quick as you match words you find in intelligence documents. For a game with so much intrigue centered around the intelligence sector there should be a better way to manage and keep track of information, very ironic! Lots of potential partially fulfilled but probably still worth playing for most XCOM or tactical fans.
A great XCOM like game set in the 80's. Use spies, sleeper agents, and gadgets to get out of tough situations.
good good
This is one of my favourite games, however I can't play it anymore, it doesn't launch when I try to open it :(
A bit like XCOM, Jagged alliance and some such. Nothing special but nice.
