Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 8.71/day in the week to Aug 10 → 23.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

**Glory to Arstotzka!** What an absolutely fantastic game. I enjoyed Papers, Please from beginning to end — so much so that I ended up completing every single achievement. At first, the game can feel a little chaotic. You learn the basic procedures, think you finally know what you're doing... and then another document is introduced. And another rule. And another exception. The further you get, the more attention you have to pay to every tiny detail. But simply being careful isn't enough. I quickly learned that if I took too much time making absolutely sure that every document was correct, I wouldn't process enough people during the day to earn enough money. On the other hand, rushing through inspections meant making mistakes and receiving citations, which cost me even more. Before long, I found myself struggling financially simply because I was trying too hard not to make mistakes. So I had to develop my own routine — a specific order in which to check documents, memorize the most important information, recognize common problems quickly, and gradually become both accurate and fast enough to survive. Going from a confused beginner staring at every piece of paper to efficiently processing one person after another was incredibly satisfying. What surprised me the most was how much of a story could be built around something as seemingly simple as checking documents at a border checkpoint. Your decisions actually matter, you meet memorable characters, and there were plenty of moments when I genuinely had to stop and think about whether I wanted to follow the rules or do what I personally felt was right. There is also a more personal reason why the atmosphere of Papers, Please resonated with me. I'm from the Czech Republic and was born in 1988, shortly before the fall of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. I was far too young to actually remember living under it, so I would never pretend that I experienced that era myself. However, I'm very interested in the history of my country, and the legacy of that period is naturally part of it. Because of that, the oppressive bureaucracy, constant suspicion, absurd regulations and authoritarian atmosphere of Arstotzka carry an additional historical weight for me. The game is obviously fictional, but some aspects of its world feel eerily familiar from the history I've grown up learning about. And despite the rather grim setting, the game also made me laugh more times than I expected. Some of the characters and situations are genuinely hilarious. Papers, Please also deserves enormous respect for being one of the pioneers of the entire document-checking and inspection genre. Today we have plenty of games built around inspecting documents, searching vehicles, identifying suspicious people, spotting impostors or determining whether someone is even human. Papers, Please showed just how compelling this kind of gameplay could be. Its influence can still be felt throughout the inspection genre more than a decade later. The visual style is incredibly simple, but it fits the game perfectly. It's charming, distinctive, surprisingly expressive and somehow makes staring at passports, permits and stamps for hours genuinely addictive. I've now finished the game with every achievement, but I definitely don't consider myself done with it forever. I can easily imagine coming back to it after some time just to enjoy another shift at the Grestin border checkpoint. A simple idea executed brilliantly, with great writing, meaningful choices, memorable characters and an incredibly addictive gameplay loop. **Papers, please. Glory to Arstotzka!**

Gloria a Arstotzka
How does one evaluate a game that accomplishes everything it sets out to do even when those goals include being intentionally uncomfortable and tedious? By gamifying a dead-end job and adding difficulty via penalties, time pressure, awkward controls, and visual clutter, it invests you enough in success that the moral decisions that jeopardize that success have consequence. The bureaucracy isn't just the setting, it's an ingenious misdirection to trick the "player" into honestly empathizing with a historical situation that they've likely kept at a safe emotional distance. Typically, such empathy is the purview of literature, but there might not exist a tolerable book that could get us in this headspace. Gamers are accustomed to occasional difficult monotony. As for those quotes around "player": it's no intolerable book, but it's still not fun and it's barely playing. I'm semi-confident it's not meant to be fun, or at least not any more fun than the curious novelty of a new job before it's just work. The engagement comes from the weight of the story, the artistry of the design, and that empathy. I cared enough that each time the sanction printer's sound cued unexpectedly, I felt genuine dejection. I improved at reviewing documents quickly, at memorizing the exact spelling of fictional cities, at comparing meaningless strings of characters, not because it was gratifying, but because it granted me the freedom to make the decisions I wanted. Which is why I cannot fathom the sort of masochist or incurably bored person who would voluntarily play the included storyless "Endless" mode. But maybe I'm the weirdo, since if children and bar patrons have taught me anything, it's that people love spot-the-difference games. Even though many, maybe even most, people would not strictly-speaking enjoy the game, I think just about everyone could stand to benefit from experiencing it, and might in the process appreciate its sneaky beauty. 7/10 P.S. Papers, Please too-realed so that Exit 8 could surreal.
