About
Mutant Football League 2 is the outrageous, over-the-top spiritual successor to the ‘90s Sega Genesis cult-classic hit Mutant League Football.
This is not your parents’ football game or a bloated simulation that chases realism at the expense of fun. MFL 2 is a brutal, darkly comedic 8-on-8 arcade-style action-packed football game. Teams of Mutated Super-Humans, Monstrous Orcs, Skeletal Deadheads, and Armored BruiserBots are pit against each other in fantastical arenas packed with deadly traps and sinister hazards like buzzsaws and giant mutant worms. This “anti-Madden” blends the pick-up-and-play accessibility of arcade sports games with strategic depth and a buttload of monstrous mayhem. Referees don’t just blow calls — they get blown up. Players don’t just fumble — they explode into limbs and pink mist.
Create. Mutate. Dominate.
In Mutant Football League 2, you’ll create your dream team of mutant freaks and customize your team’s player composition and tactics. The right team is your ticket to gridiron glory, and you’ll have to define their playing style. Will you deploy a relentless offensive by mutilating the opposition? Or will you slice through the enemy’s defense with razor-sharp, brainy maneuvers? It’s up to you to show the world your prowess and become a true MFL legend. Under your guidance, these mutants will rise from scrubs to legends, crushing the competition with style and savagery across Mutant Football League 2’s single-player Season, Dynasty Supreme franchise mode, and online multiplayer.
Brace yourself for exploding body parts, comically horrific deaths, and blood splatters that paint the field red. Whether getting blitzed by a rampaging monster or succumbing to a trap-laden end zone, every game is a symphony of unpredictable chaos. Dirty Trick plays even allow teams to commit bannable atrocities; those poor refs… Nothing and no one is safe.
Choose from over 36 MFL teams composed of maniacal mutant versions of pro football superstars — 32 pro-league teams like the Karcass City Creeps, Killadelphia Evils, and Blitzburgh Steelheads, and 4 minor league teams like the Orcs of Hazards and Tokyo Terminators. MFL player cards also unlock historic players who can be signed in Free Agency; So, if you’d prefer to be a special snowflake, you can create an original team and craft a legacy of your own.
Evolve your mutant baddies to unlock new armor sets, mutations, and weapons such as chainsaws, shotguns, and more. Hell, you can even use SkillRoid Boosts to give your players special abilities during a game. We ain’t natty out here.
Become the ringleader of the freakshow in MFL2’s franchise mode. Start at the bottom of the league and claw to the top, turning pro by beating the competition across several seasons and winning Mayhem Bowls. Draft rookies every season and train them up to build a powerful roster.
Design your team's arena, strategically placing lethal hazards and manipulating the weather — buzz saws to trim the competition, fire geysers to turn up the heat, or drop a blizzard on those fools. Make your stadium into the kind of place where only your team loves to play, and everyone else just prays to survive.
Tim Kitzrow, the iconic voice of your favorite sports franchises — NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, NHL Hitz, and MLB Slugfest — commentates MFL 2, reciting plays and talking all kinds of smack. BOOMSHAKALAKA!

Fairly fun but the programmers don't know how to balance the game at all. You can be up 21 points and the way they "balance" it is the other team can break 8 tackles in a single play and just run into the endzone, then recover an onside and run it all the way back. Clown show. I can handle dirty tricks but not sub par programming balance. Also practically unlimited turbo on other team's defense, somehow they know exactly when you are calling a dirty trick and can negate it, and pass interference calls at random but the computer never gets called on it. Fun game, but man they pooped the bed in many aspects and hope they clean it up. Edit: Right after writing this I downed a running back and he got back up and ran it all the way in 60 yards. This thing has bugs EVERYWHERE!
Mutant Football League 2 Is Just Flat Out Fun

The Mutant League Reputation of Drawing Both Non-Sports and Sports fans is Fully Deserved
MFL2 lets you play exactly how you want to and doesn't require any knowledge of American Football to get started. The game also has hundreds of easter eggs for even the biggest football fans tucked away to get a chuckle from even the most hardcore of the sports fans. The two games on the Genesis are among the consoles most sought after and cherished games for a reason, they're more than sports titles and MFL and MFL2 do a great job to carry on that lineage. The Killadelphia Evils won't come out onto the field for the second half kickoff if you're winning and killing by enough and they also have an Eagle QB player for two small examples of the developers slipping little easter eggs. The development team has huge strengths in their creativity and ability to adapt the game to who's playing it. The presentation is excellent and there's a ton of long lost arcade tricks to level the playing field in favour of or against the player depending on what's happening. They also have a proven track record of releasing a product and REALLY supporting it long term. The previous game was a failed kickstarter that was built and released anyway, just stripped from the initial vision. Then they spent years adding in new teams, races, features and of course bug fixes. I've been playing the game since it's official release and have seem fix a ton of bugs with regular patches, even hot fixes when required. I'm writing this review because the games fun and I posted a few thoughts had and included the source of a pretty long term nasty bug at the end, that bug got fixed within 2 days of that post. The teams great, the games great and it doesn't matter how much you know about football you'll have a good time with the title.
The Good
* The overall presentation is excellent with a ton of character and detail in the players themselves. * You can play football or you just kill the other guys, it's about fun and how you want to play. * The gameplay works really well and there's a lot of old-school arcade tricks being used to keep it fun. * Really strong theming encourages you to build a custom team entirely around a specific theme. I've made passing only teams, heavy punishes rushing teams, an all troll team that was slow but hit hard and most recently a team that doesn't play offense at all. Everything I wanted to do I could and all of them were fun experience. * Includes an excellent custom team creator that allows you place a TON of hazards on your homefield. You can make as devious as you want or you can play into your teams name and theme. * Want to make your team nothing but robots who take half damage from mines and fire and cover field with those traps? Absolutely allowed and completely unfair to your opponents too. * You can enjoy it without having any knowledge of football and have fun straight away, even as a complete arcade game novice just looking for something to cool to play fun. * There's also depth in the difficulty and gameplay settings that can meet even the most hardcore min/max efficiency player. * Dynasty lets you get really into the weeds if you want to customize your team and players ability's, plays and even the traps your stadium has. * Dynasty mode has some rough edges but does a good job of increasing the difficulty as your team improves and wins titles. * Season mode works really well and plays into MFL2's strengths really well if you want a more pickup and play gameplay mode. * The developers have a track record of supporting their games long term and they've already fixed a lot of bugs. * The card system is entirely just drops you get from playing games and lets you build a pretty cool collection over time. * Pricing is very fair for the amount of content included at launch and there's no micro transactions at all, including the card system.
The Bad
* The amount that player stats and ability's get adjusted by the game goes beyond arcade style rubber banding and ventures into frustrating territory. * Dynasty progression starts to fall apart multiple seasons in and takes away some of the fun. * Card system would be better used as a purely a collection system and way to get skillroids for players instead of how it currently works where having lots of cards makes the game easier for players with lots of time invested. * The way the draft and CPU teams work in Dynasty needs a lot more attention. Currently all the draft classes are exactly the same players with different names who just get better ratings with each new season. * The development has some very clear strengths but their weakness shows up with a game that would have right at home in the arcade taking as many quarters as Mortal Kombat and NFL Blitz or NBA Jam but doesn't translate well to the deep franchise modes of modern sports titles. * The CPU goes above and beyond with it's cheating and that can frustrating to deal with. You can deal with it by being able to read pre-play certain formations and being careful with your play calling but it takes away from the enjoyment when you're forced to play a certain way. * Being able to pick and choose which dirty tricks and field hazards are allowed and being able to disable the ones you dislike would go a long way. The Bribe the Ref trick and worms that kill your players every kickoff are noteworthy frustrating points for me. * You will encounter bugs that are rarely game breaking. The vast majority of the bugs are small and mess up stats or opposition team rosters. The development has hot fixed bugs introduced in patches that have caused major issues or lockups.
Who Should or Should Not Buy MFL2
* There's a really fun experience here and if you're looking for something with that arcade feel that made NFL Blitz, NBA Jam and honestly both Genesis Mutant League titles so beloved you'll have a blast. * Players who have an idea to theme your custom team around for dynasty then you're on the same page as the developers and be rewarded the more heavily you lean into those ideas. * Players expecting a really in depth Dynasty mode like other sports titles are going to be disappointed with the way the draft, trading and free agency works.
Conclusion
The bottom line is your choice to purchase of a game like this is also your voice. I don't post reviews for games normally but I wanted to share both the good and bad things about MFL2 so people can make their own decision on the game. The developers at Digital Dreams Entertainment track record of ongoing support for their previous games plus the creativity and respect for the players they've shown made MFL2 an automatic buy for me. Mutant Football League 2 is really fun and rewards creativity with plenty of depth for all players. Welcoming for those with no American Football knowledge to those will know exactly why the New Goreleans Zombies have the hardest hitting player in the game.

I think the game has potential but I think it should have stayed in early access longer. It lacks in content such as plays, voice lines, or even powers the teams or stadiums have. some stadiums will have 7 modifiers others will have 5 they are all near the endzones. That's not to say I haven't had some fun, I did request a refund at one point but cancelled it last minute because the redeeming factor for me was co-op couch play or remote play. I did play with my friend via remote-play, and your able to play co-op or against them in quickplay or the games Coach/dynasty mode. This was prolly the only redeemable factor as it made the game a lot more tolerable, and had us laughing and having a good time. We turned down commentary because it literally is the same voice lines repeated. Overall the game is lackluster unless you have someone to play with, I have the commentary turned down pretty much all the way, the only story is their coach/dynasty mode, isn't much going for it at this point only holding onto it because it made for a fun time with my friend.
Fun arcade football game and has no in game microtransactions so far.
I bought this in early access. Never really turned into a good game, now it seems they have pretty much quit on it.
WHY DO MY PLAYERS STOP GIVING EFFORT RANDOMLY IN THE SECOND HALF?? THEY JUST START WALKIN ON EVERY SINGLE PLAY.... AND HOW DOES THE CPU ALWAYS TRIGGER THESE WEIRD SLOW MOTION BROKEN TACKLES. MFL guys FIX your game. It's freakin broken guys
football. more enjoyable than madden
Games great, I've gotten my money's worth out of it, 20 "online" & 30+ offline. They supported mutant football league 1 afterwards for years with roster updates and also updated there online matchmaking for the players. So 30$ for a football game that works, is guaranteed to have support for years to come, there's no micro-transactions, and your supporting an indie developer. Why NOT buy it? Maybe these reasons?? Difficulty - easy to learn, hard to master. Just look at big salad negative review, lol 71+ hours. I'm personally doing all star masochist mode Dynasty, first two seasons undefeated now I'm stacking the other teams through trades and recruiting characters with funny names or if they look cool. "Puss Savage" my cornerback "Wompass Oddbreath" my blitzer and I drafted a completely silver skeleton. Get creative. Bug - tiny bugs in game, visual bugs, nothing that deters your ability to play like Crapden 26. Cards - honestly the most addicting thing to me in this game, these cards are NOT bought with currency, they are only earned in game through popularity points which you obtain from just literally playing. Completing passes, breaking tackles, eliminating other players, whatever. But there's a card for EVERY character in game, there's three teams that you unlock through gameplay which also means more cards to collect, buying the Lil flip dlc also adds those cards to collect and I personally love how the dev's don't throw that information in your face(buy this for more cards), it's like there being humble in some way. Fine, your wondering what the cards actually do, start a season mode and your only able to upgrade your team through cards you collect(honestly i had a blast with this), cards in dynasty mode make the player cheaper to obtain, collecting duplicate cards add these passive abilities called "skillroids" your able to activate pre game. Your also able to obtain cards for your base players if you never trade them away in dynasty mode and that's also fun for me as well, your characters start out aweful and you can personally build them up and obtain cards for them along the way. What more can I say? Just buy it already, I gotta get back to gaming.
A pretty fun and entertaining game. The Hazards are fun to play around as well as the dirty tricks. I didn't have too much problems with losing players during a game until I went against the Creeps. That fields buzzsaw just got soo many players. As well as their dirty tricks. Was a little balanced out as their field got their own players too. I have really enjoyed Dynasty so far. Pretty satisfying building up your guys to become better as the season goes on. Getting upgrades through Free Agency, and Trades is pretty good too, and pretty balanced. So you can't just go crazy with it getting a new team more or less.. I am excited to continue the Dynasty and see how good I can get my team. Adding this later, and maybe I haven't gotten to a point where you can do this, but for Dynasty I wish there was a way to permanently change your dirty tricks instead of having to spend to change them every single week. It can be a bit tedious and kind of annoying. At least let me change the explosive pass one without having to do it every single week. In my experience with it. It's just not worth it.
great game, however sometimes when i tackle the ball carrier, he gets back up and runs it in for a TD. In dynasty mode I essentially have to trade off my entire starting team from the year before. after 9 weeks i will finally get my salary cap back to positive and then the next season rolls around and i go 40-100million in debt in cap space
