Nota: 9/10.

Let me preface this by saying that I really enjoyed Mortal Shell 2, and I can definitely see this blossoming into one of my top 10 Souls-likes, but I really can't recommend it until it's had a pass over by the Devs and a couple of patches. Pros: -I really adore the art style and the writing, it is a genuinely well written piece of fiction that I managed to lose myself in for the entirety of my play time, and a big part of that is the Shells that you come to inhabit and their stories. There is a slight downside to this, which I will explore later. -The combat is usually quite enjoyable, with meaty sounds and a real feeling of weight behind your swings, and likewise most of the animations are stellar and full of character, especially from The Harbinger. -The progression for the first half of the game feels very rewarding and fair, like you've earned every scrap of Gloom, Coin, and Materials to improve yourself and tackle greater challenges. -The larger dungeon-style areas where you find and fight the main bosses of the game are diverse and stick well to the theme that they are given, a highlight of this was the first area that you had to fight through to fight Magdalena, the Shepard Boss was a delight. -The variety and uniqueness of each of the Shells was a treat, the abilities are interesting and the playstyles are very diverse, I found myself wanting to max out all of them to experiment with builds and try them out, something that proved to be a challenge. -I really enjoyed the two open areas of the game, I found that exploring all the nooks and crannies was very rewarding and exciting. Cons: -Some of the bosses are particularly difficult, not for the traditional reasons a boss is difficult in a souls game, but instead because the camera (The True Final Boss.) decides to throw itself into the bosses every time they make one of their massive "Jump across the map" attacks, and also most enemies have the terrible habit of canceling their animations mid-way through an attack and switching to another one with incredible speed and after I have committed to a defense against the previous attack. There is also a serious inconsistency in the timings and the I-Frames in some of the animations, especially verses against the larger bosses and most especially against the last boss of the game. -The limited amount of Glimpses is a serious bottleneck on my enjoyment of the game because I have found that certain areas, enemies, and bosses lend themselves to being fought with a certain Shell and their playstyle, but I am entirely incapable of upgrading most of them, and by my calculations it will take at least one other playthrough to do so, something that I am unlikely to do with the game in it's current state. I have a few other points to make, both positives and negatives, but needless to say my opening statement holds true, If the game's quality stayed as good as it was in the first 75% I would have recommended it in a heartbeat, but in it's current state, I cannot.
very cool
dying to mob desync explosions over and over, while they are on the other side of the boss arena in the first boss fight. this game sucks. its not a skill issue either, beat consort radahn in the top .01% of players on elden ring, pre nerf, soooooo screw this buggy game.
Mortal Shell 2 - A Somewhat Brutal, Beautifully Optimized Souls like After about 30.7 hours with completing the game, I had a great time with it. The combat feels satisfying, the atmosphere is fantastic, and there’s a lot to appreciate for. I’ve seen and experienced a pretty substantial portion of what the game has to offer. There are still a few achievements left to chase, but overall, I’m very happy with the experience. One thing that genuinely impressed me was how well optimized the game is for an Unreal Engine 5 title. Performance was consistently solid throughout my playthrough, and I encountered very few glitches. The handful I did run into were mostly instances of falling through the floor, but thankfully they were relatively uncommon and didn’t significantly impact my experience. The enemy variety is pretty good, although I was disappointed that some regular enemies are reused as bosses. That felt a little lazy and took away from some of the encounters. The main bosses, on the other hand, were great. Their designs were memorable and their move sets were fun to learn and fight against. My biggest complaint with them was their health. Considering how frequently I was upgrading my weapon, I felt like I should have been doing noticeably more damage. Some bosses felt extremely spongey, which made certain fights drag on longer than they needed to. Overall, Mortal Shell 2 is a very enjoyable action RPG with great atmosphere, satisfying combat, cool boss designs, and surprisingly strong optimization for an UE5 game. Despite some spongey bosses, reused enemies, and the occasional floor glitch, I had a blast with it and would definitely recommend it
The final boss of this game is absolute garbage, genuinley a boss that doesn't want to fight, constantly disengages and has attacks that don't even really have hitboxes, except for a fire attack that is completely undodgeable when your close and either kills you instantly or disables your shell, almost every boss in this game has 1 attack that completly ruins the fun in fighting them, except granny
