Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 19.71/day in the week to Aug 10 → 20.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Metaphor seriously reminds me of those young kids who hang around with groups of genuinely intelligent, well-read people, quietly absorb everything they say, memorize it, and then go around repeating those same ideas as if they came up with them. The whole time you're listening to them, and thinking, "Those words are way bigger than your mouth!" ... and Sometimes you're even like, "Can someone please make this guy stop talking?" That's exactly what Metaphor feels like when it comes to its character writing, storytelling, and philosophical themes. It's basically Persona, but with far less compelling character writing, a story that's relentlessly preachy, and philosophical themes that come across as deep at first glance but ultimately feel pretty immature (through the way this game presents them) especially compared to the Persona series. The pacing is also much slower, both narratively and mechanically, to the point where parts of the game become genuinely boring. As for the gameplay, it improves on Persona in a few areas but also takes a step backward in others. Now, don't get me wrong—this is not a bad game. Far from it. Fans of the genre will probably have a great time with it. But when you put it next to a titan like Persona 5, Metaphor ends up feeling like a solid but ultimately average RPG. If you're expecting another Atlus masterpiece on the level of their very best work, I think there's a very good chance you'll come away disappointed. But if you judge it on its own merits instead of comparing it to Atlus's greatest hits, then Metaphor is absolutely a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 3: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

TL;DR VERDICT: 6.5/10 Great all-around but lacking sorely in the narrative department (even more so when it comes to social links), gameplay really carries the game outside of the slog that is late-game dungeon crawling. Get on sale. The archetypes are a great concept, because they add a decent bit of strategy to the game that some of the afformentioned "other titles" don't have; however, these turn out to be a double-edged sword since the amount of grinding required to master all of them or get the royal archetypes at the end of the game (Metaphor's equivalent to ultimate personas) is frankly appalling. The game's story is definitely solid and the worldbuilding is quite interesting, but there's nothing here to write home about; despite the main villain being incredibly well written, the main plot and the protagonist's arc are both really cliché and lack depth. For a game that tries to be more mature than the majority of Atlus' most popular titles, it's dissapointingly childish: the entire messaging and plot of the game revolve around a really shallow view on morality and class struggles. The MC and his party are Superman-tier good guys who want to believe that everything is actually sunshine and rainbows, and, as for the game's view on class struggle, all the racism and xenophobia in this game is utterly nonsensical. Racism in reality is borne of stereotypes or deep-seated fear/hatred, however, racism in Metaphor: ReFantazio is completely senseless; none of the races are very different to one another outside of appearances (with the exception of the Mustari that actually stick out somewhat), none of the races are shown as "criminal" races like Skyrim's Khajiit for example, and none of them have any political/historical reasons to hate eachother. The social links and plot-twists are also quite stagnant, I found myself predicting pretty much every majour plot-twist in the game way ahead of time, and I struggle to recall memorable social links outside of perhaps Alonzo and Heismay. In short, the game's story and worldbuilding have great potential, but it's as though the writers were too afraid to really go at it. The gameplay is an improvement by almost every metric from a lot of Atlus' other titles in my opinion, you're almost never bored unless you have to deal with the slog that is the late-game's grindfest or some of the longer main story dungeons like the Dragon Temple and the Skybound Avatar. One of my main complaints outside of excessive grinding however (I'll have you know that I generally like grinding in RPGs so I'm not exaggerating either) is that you run out of MP far too fast and there are virtually no ways to replenish it. Every Persona game for example had some way to replenish SP without leaving the dungeon you were in provided you had the money to pay for it, however in Metaphor you will often find yourself having to return to a dungeon 2-3 times and still having to carefully conserve mana, which really does kill the momentum of the gameplay at times when you're in massive dungeons full of enemy encounters. Finally, the music and artstyle of this game are nothing short of incredible; I do however take issue to the fact that roughly 70% of this game's tracks sound identical to one another when you're actually invested in the gameplay. This is indeed a bit of a harsh critique on my behalf, however, considering that Atlus' primary strong point outside of storytelling is their music, it's hard to let even the littlest things slide here. In conclusion, if you're a fan of Atlus then you're going to love this game. However, don't be surprised if it doesn't live up to the grand expectations you've had for every other work of theirs, as there are many things in this game that feel largely experimental.
I like this game, it was racist, wonderous, depressing and exciting. Made me cry a couple of times and I love a lot of the plot twists even though some of them gave me whiplash when it escalates so much without break then gives you a whole month of free time before the end boss which you're forced to fight on a certain day so you can't even finish early XD An amalgamation of many atlus published games turned into something both new and familiar. I'm a bit miffed that out of 8 tribes only 1 is distinctly different than a normal person compared to the rest but that's just a personal preference I have for fantasy stories where nobody is supposedly human XP
makoto yuki with heterophobia got isekai'd and now he's experiencing medieval racism great game atlus cooked
let me preface with this: This game sucks if youre a fan of SMT/Persona, which I am the combat is fun and i like that you get what is basically ryujis instant kill on enemies lower level than you, and the ability to reset an encounter is pretty neat the story (i never finished the floating castle dungeon for reasons i will get to) is fine so far but the "rushed" parts of it stick out so bad (i.e. the butterfly girl being the big bad for like 10 ingame seconds) the archetypes, while cool and unique at the start, get so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ exhausting to deal with past the midgame because you get overwhelmed with them, and to get the "super" archetypes on each character you have to max out archetypes you would probably never go out of your way to use normally, also grinding levels feels so unintuitive spell casting is expensive and i felt inclined to NEVER use spells in combat and i was underlevelled despite going out of my way to grind for levels for maybe 2 ingame dungeons. travelling taking 1-5 ingame days was alright with me as a gimmick until they introduced the ability to teleport between major POIs, completely killing the whole gimmick strohl is the only character whos name i could remember off the top of my head. tldr if youre expecting an smt/persona styled game it sorta is that but its a mix of both worlds, persona mechanics like the calendar system and relationships, and the harsh unforgiving combat from SMT where every turn matters. but thats where the similarities end, it becomes less and less fun as the story reaches its end just wait til atlus does what they do best and rerelease the game in like 5 years to fix all the issues the original release had
