I genuinely can not describe how much this game has touched and affected me. Coming into this simple-looking management simulator completely blind just to be slammed with some of the most difficult challenges in gaming, along with the detailed worldbuilding and elaborate touching story unlike any other game I've played in my entire life was an absolutely star sent gift. (mostly) I Feel that understanding that process of trial and error in resetting days to redo a situation in order to culminate in that final reward of success is fundamentally the most important part of Lobotomy Corp, and that's something you'll have to keep in mind during your strenuous gameplay - just take it slow, you have infinite pauses to think and recover a situation. Not every situation needs to be perfectly recovered either, take minimal losses, don't worry about minor failures if your goals are still achieved. My first true ending run took 90 well-spent hours without using guides, and if you plan to cough up the £20~equivalent I'd recommend trying to do the same. There isn't anything I wouldn't give to experience this game in its entirety again, play Lobotomy Corporation, it'll ruin your life :)
Lobotomy Corp...
Lobotomy Corporation is probably one of my favorite games of all time to play. There is so much about it that is great and provides quite a lot of challenge at a reasonable pace. There are some that would say to skip this, read a synopsis, and move on to Library of Ruina, but that would be a MAJOR disservice to both yourself and to the Project Moon story line period. For reference I have 100% completed the game, which includes all suppressions, 100% abnormality dissolution
including WhiteNight and Apocalypse Bird
, and of course completed day 50. The first thing I want to talk about is the gameplay of Lobotomy Corporation. As the description states, the game is a monster management sim that is similar to SCP in terms of what kind of monsters you will be managing. However, you aren't just managing the monsters and that's it, you are also fighting to recontain them if they breach or fighting off ordeals that happen throughout the day. Now, the ordeals that you fight at certain times during the day vary in difficulty as well as what they are. The times of day are dawn, noon, dusk, and midnight, with difficulty increasing with every part of the day. When you first start the game, you may find dawn ordeals to be a little hard, but when you start getting your research going, you'll be able to get gear from the abnormalities you are working with. With this gear, your experience in combat will get a lot easier outside of the obvious skills you need to use to be successful in the game. The abnormalities themselves will also increase in danger level with time, starting you out with ZAYIN and maxing out at ALEPH. Some abnormalities may be tricky to keep contained even if they aren't ALEPH level, but in general most of the regular abnormalities are very easy to keep pleased as long as you have properly trained up your employees. However, do keep in mind that there are certain abnormalities (I won't spoil which ones) that have a skill ceiling and others that have a skill floor. If you do not meet either the skill floor or are below the skill ceiling of the abnormality you are working with, you will not have a fun time. Additionally, make sure to actually read the managerial guidelines the game provides you. They most literally tell you how to work with the abnormality, telling you what you can and cannot do with it. Make sure to also watch what kind of work damage your abnormality does and adjust your employee's gear accordingly before starting the day. Throughout your playthroughs you will be getting missions that you have to complete. You may think these missions are not necessary to clear the game, but they are necessary to see the true ending of the game. Additionally, they will make your life MUCH MUCH easier if you complete them all the way through. These missions will provide much needed upgrades to your whole facility as you finish each character storyline to its completion. Some of these missions may be difficult, however no matter how difficult they are, you CAN complete them and you WILL feel very accomplished afterwards. Plus, all your progress made with all abnormality research, gear, and mission progression is saved with every run, allowing you to either rewind to a checkpoint to get back the employees that were lost, or to restart from day 1 if you want to restructure your facility. Just remember, no matter how messed up your whole facility gets, how difficult the game can be, you can always retry the day, restart from a checkpoint, or restart from day 1 without having to worry about anything. Story wise, Lobotomy Corporation's story is very good. You will meet a variety of characters as your progress throughout the day, each with their own storyline that shows both their character and their background. The mainline story is very good with great pacing throughout all 50 days. It very much builds up the world that Lobotomy Corporation is built in and builds up both the character you are playing and Angela, your AI secretary. With one of the major genres of this game being a roguelike, you will get very familiar with the story each and every time you go through it, and may even notice things you never noticed before. However, I can assure you that the story will keep you very engaged and invested in all of the characters you will meet throughout it. Every abnormality also has its own lore/background story to go with it, so you have quite a lot of story to go through if you want to read every little bit. Music wise, Lobotomy Corporation's music is simply fantastic. Even if the game came before Project Moon started working with Mili for songs like in Library of Ruina and Limbus Company, you can feel the raw emotions that come from each song. The first, second, and third trumpets will stress you out and make you feel the progressing danger and more and more abnormalities break out or kill your employees. Every theme for the final missions for each of the characters will evoke different feelings depending on the backstory of each character (of which I won't spoil). Overall, the music is amazingly well made, which is to be expected with all music that Project Moon has made and will make in the future. Art wise, the art style/design of the game is very cute overall, with some abnormalities of course being a little creepy. Lobotomy Corporation doesn't go for a super detailed version of everything in the game, but goes for a more simplistic style. This is actually incorporated into the game's story of why everything appears like that. You can also customize all of your little employees (that aren't clerks) to however you like with the character customizer. Of course, you should feel obligated to make at least one BongBong in all of your playthroughs. She is the all seeing one after all. I even made multiple playthroughs where I made half of all my employees BongBong and the other half of all my employees were a character that appeared in my early runs called GlassesRaccoon. Difficulty wise, I think the game's difficulty is VERY fair and everything is doable with multiple strategies being present to tackle every situation. The primary thing to make your games easier is to actually train your employees, don't just get the minimum required energy for the day and quickly move on. This will only come to bite you in the butt later on if you are doing your final run to fully complete the day. Additionally, try to match your gear with the damage type that each abnormality in your employees' departments are weak to. That way you can quickly suppress them and get back to work. The final missions can also be difficult, but each have a very clear cut strategy that you can follow to easily beat them. Overall, this is the first and arguably the most important game in the Project Moon series. It establishes the characters that appear in Library of Ruina and establishes the general PM world for Limbus Company as well. The gameplay may be a little difficult and require you to use a number of skills to be successful, but keep in mind that no matter how hard it is, the game is very doable (especially to 100% completion). I would HIGHLY recommend playing this game to 100% completion first before even opening or stepping foot into Library of Ruina.
