My 200th Review. I saw this on YouTube and in spite of seeing the whole thing still wanted to pick it up because it seemed such a good short story with great art. I do really like the art style really captures that children's story book vibe well, some of said content while I was less inclined to buy into the critique to begin with, playing it myself now, yes there is a slightly odd overfocus on sexuality when it's neither the point of the narrative nor plays into its end in anyway shape or form, one critique about the fart joke, I thought was just through pantyhose/long johns until I played and realised they actually slip down and it's a weird and completely frivolous detail that only detracts from a light-hearted moment to break tension. And the gross out does get a bit much, I get this little lady hasn't had a great upbringing and would eat and do things causing her to vomit....but why the cow scene? why is everything else that's "unfortunate" around her based on grossness. Sound is great, can't imagine myself listening to a track on its own but it serves the game and story well for the most part, which to me is better than the catchy jingles that capture nothing of the vibe so many project seem to aim for. But that said the story is fine, its short, it ends when it needs to, this isn't a story about everything after, this is a story about her and this game. It is genuinely sad at times, it's a nice palette cleanser, a light snack of a game with a lot of charm in between bigger monsters of games. And on sale at less then £5 is good value. Nothing about Fran Bow looks interesting to me, if this is overly edgy then that's an emo teen of a game, on top of which it took how long to get to a point? Nah, not for me, I think they tell a better story in this snapshot from what I've seen. Glad I played it for myself and supported this title, in spite of seeing it played. I played through a bit of a second run to make some alternative choices but honestly not worth it, pick what you want to and have that be your Little Misfortune story, the choices and mythological consequences aren't anything to write home about...if anything at all.
