Reviews
Just learned about the Heart Machine layoffs. I wrote my positive review because I believed the game would be going in a direction where once complete, it would be very good. Now that it is going to be left in its current state, do not buy it. It's a very mediocre roguelite with not much to do. Really wish they just stopped making games after Hyper Light Drifter.

Good game with great potential. Recommend it to Risk of Rain 2 fans.
Love the art style and the fact that this game is still in the same realm/world as Hyperlight Drifter. The mystery and lore that game had, gives this game limitless potential to be something really great after it's polished and completed! Tight character movements & responsive combat along with decent secondaries and upgrades., Overall, feels pretty smooth and precise when fighting and exploring. The game is pretty challenging but still enjoyable. Gives you that "just one more run before i quit" kind of feeling. Can't wait to see what the final outcome of this game is.

The recent update is a step towards the right direction. <3 i truely hope this game survives .. My disappointments and Lost opportunities *Character designs are so cool but the feel more like a skin than a character shallow or empty I get it different characters have different weapons doesn’t feel good at all to play with any character if the only difference is status looks weapons For somereason i thought the new character has an ability fire breath *fighting ,mechanics and difficulty The game is hard because of enemies swarming you in every single way melee homing orbs fast projectiles hit scan This is artificial difficulty in its finest How about lower the enemies count Make them attack more frequently so i can use the parry and get used to it while if i missed up my health will drop heavily so it will be more rewarding to parry and kill and anime skillfully The issue is we kill all the mobs and we enjoy fighting the simi elite because we actually can parry him and focus on his movies *combat & weapons Why do we have multiple swords types but not multiple claw designs and attacks or katana special parry that actually reflect incoming damage or stagger dmg for a critical hit etc Why don’t we have a heavier claw with a different moveset Sadly the variety in weapons is only on the elements and passive effects The dmg between weapons types They feel the same obv they are not but katana is just hack and slash Claw is hack and slash hammer is hack and slash i understand the premise but it get boring really fast if there is nothing actually special for each weapon *Characters ultimate All the characters ultimates are a grenade? All of those cool character designs and their ultimate a hand bomb As an example look at elden ring nightreign characters ultimates or skills Now take all their ult and skills and give them specific weapons and the same ultimate ability Yeah they will feel like a skin not an actual character that tells something about you thats why you picked a tank or a dps etc etc *items or power ups Risk of rain 2 Genuinely give us the chance to stomp on the enemies that stomped on us at the beginning make being powerful luck dependent with a bit of strategic build building In short add some interesting items that can be used as passives by killing enemies or opening chests etc *bosses i loved them all but the projectile part should be more frustrating to beat like forcing the players to parry to survive etc or delete the idea of projectiles *Control Hmmm i changed the control as soon as i started playing too many buttons for too many abilities I advice you check elden ring nightreign for control management I did my on control and it fits the game perfectly and it make actual sense *elite assassins Harder than the bosses lol they should be tuned down or make us more powerful let us feel the past 20 min of farming and fighting was worth it because i became powerful I don’t like the fact that my hit does nearly the same dmg as the start of the game because the enemies are getting stronger with you Make some low level areas and high level areas and maybe super difficult redskull area that gives you way better rewards *legendary weapons My biggest disappointment status and bonuses only? Where are the cool design the story behind the weapon the cool ass move set and ability that will carry me through the taughiest of assassins *passives Make better passive that actually makes it interesting to use The only passive i liked and i trully enjoyed was parry to get a lot of attack speed Give us some passives that truly can break the game that can be stacked like Risk of rain 2 items etc Conclusion i love this game i know its an early access but i see potential don’t f. it up like dauntless. I recommend the game support it
So far Breaker is great for the price. But it's mediocre for the genre, and a bit of a disgrace to the Hyper Light name. For $30, it's an addicting experience to have with some friends. But as a fan of the world, I definitely would have preferred a linear story with a more rich environment and larger map as opposed to a roguelike copypasta with uninspired mechanics Update: Changed review to not recommended as the devs have discontinued this title. My suspicion is they realized hyper light fans want something more faithful to the original.
Initial Feedback and Feeling ------------------------------ The ugly: - Jumping and dashing don't feel right and I think I can nail the "why". When you jump and dash there is a very quick falloff and I think people would expect to maintain momentum when using it. - I get stuck in so many places, between objects, platforms, on environment edges, etc. (this needs to be fixed, its predominant in the early area where people expect a bit of polish since it's going to lock in players or make them quit the game) The bad: - Trying to use dash to avoid damage but animations not getting canceled and I end up most of the time getting skewed by a pack of friendly neighbors is infuriating. The good and the hope: - Combat overall is nice, it has a bit of variety for now - There are plenty of upgrades and builds - Graphics are good and music is decent - The devs have a previous great title so expectations on this are still high. --- Footnote: I'm willing to update my review based on future updates
