Centuries ago, a primal magic surged from the earth's depths, fueling empires but twisting it's inhabitant and the world into corruption's grasp. Forests blackened, skies bled shadow, and rivers turned to poison.
But a less prevalent radiant energy was also born, and hidden within pure warriors, the Luminaries. Armed with the light, their goal is to reclaim the land, hurling back the blight.
Yet the Luminary's gift is double-edged, immortality that tempts the soul. Every 80 years, Luminaries must yield their light to a successor, or risk eternal decay. Defiant ones hoard it, swelling into godlike tyrants of darkness, the Ebonarchs
As a new Luminary, rise in power. Shatter the Ebonarch's abyssal power source to strip their immortality, and strike them down. Together with your fellow Luminaries, push back the Darkness with Light.

I'll admit it. I get why this has received some positive reviews. It is a decent early effort for a small team, but that doesn't make it a good game. I honestly don't understand the game. It feels more like an early prototype of some crude game elements rather than an actual thought-out game. I played the demo, but nothing in the demo showed a lot of promise that it would ever feel like an actual game. Specifically, the character is dropped into an empty world with very little in it that makes any sense - just a few random encounters and items scattered about. After running around, slaying a few goblins/orcs/whatever, and picking up a few uninteresting and largely useless treasures, we move on to face a boss stone golem - again, for no apparent reason other than the fact that there is nothing else to do and nowhere else to go. All of that might be OK, but there is a finite and limited supply of healing potions and arrows. And, while the golem regains health pretty quickly, the character does not at all, without a potion. So, if you don't slay the golem early on and die once or twice, you are left with no supplies and no means to gain more, but still having to face the same golem you couldn't defeat when you still had those things. Still, that might be OK if you had some way to build up to be prepared to face the golem. But, you just fight a dozen or so easy goblins/orcs/whatever, then jump right into this boss that can kill you with a few blows, but which takes dozens (hundreds?) of blows to kill. And, again, it regenerates and you do not. It just shows me that the developers spent a lot of time just getting the basic mechanics working and either don't have a solid plan for gameplay design, or just haven't implemented it, yet. The result, as it stands, is a lot more like a proof-of-concept of some of the basic mechanics - not a game. That said, if the team doesn't have a lot of experience, the effort to get to this point is significant. If there is a comprehensive design concept for a game that delivers on the promises in the game description, then they should definitely be encouraged to continue. Good game development is extraordinarily difficult and I don't mean to be discouraging. But, I am just reviewing what I saw - not what I hope to see some day. I thought that if the EA version was as good as the promo video and screenshots, then I would buy it - just to support the devs, if nothing else. But, the stated purpose of the demo was to allow people to see how it runs on their machine and whether they liked the gameplay. Based on my experience with the demo is that it looked pretty bad on my machine (middle-of-the-road specs) and the gameplay was rough, at best. Because I thought it showed promise and I wanted to support the devs, I took a gamble and bought the EA version that just came out, on the assumption that it would be improved. Unfortunately, it wasn't. There might be some game worth playing beyond the same area and setting that was in the demo, but players should not have to endure a grind to earn the privilege to get to the fun stuff.

Very early alpha right now, needs a lot longer in the oven. Premise is interesting, but it needs a lot of work. Can’t recommend as is but I’ll be interested to see how it looks in a year or so.
Yes it is a beautiful looking game, but it is definitely not early release in the way most think it is suppose to be. But let us break that down first. What is early release? Is it Alpha, Beta or just another name for both? I am 76 years old and have been a gamer all my life. I Alpha and Beta tested years ago when we got paid or rewarded with the game itself. That flew out the door a long time ago . Now we pay to test games and most people don't mind. I sure don't because I'm paying $20 or less for a full blown game when it grows up. lol It beats the $60-90 that some games cost today and there are still plenty of bugs and even flops. So back to this game. I think it is still in Alpha stage. It doesn't matter what anyone calls it Alpha, Beta, Early Release its all mute. It has a good concept clear the world of darkness and make it light again. It has a vast area to play in and explore. It doesn't have much in the world. A few deer a lot of goblins and a few golems. No npc's that I found in any of the towns. But I only played the demo and this for 2 hours so could have missed them. Never did find the pick to mine the ore lol either here or the demo so yea i'm old. The chests are scattered and I mean scattered. You can take out goblin camps and get nothing, you can destroy the stone above the tower and get nothing. You can destroy 100 goblins and get a few potions and arrows but I must say not enough arrows to actually use the bow unless you can one shot things which I can't. The weapons wheel is buggy but the Dev told me it is being worked on. Found a few towns with no people at all. I thought if I cleared the darkness and made the trees in the area white again everyone would come out of the buildings and praise me only to find a few goblin stragglers I missed greet me. That would be a good concept by the way. Clear the darkness and the goblins out of a town and everyone would come back. I didn't find shops to sell or buy anything even though the Dev told me they were there. I found a lot of buildings with signs like a pub and blacksmith shop etc but no shops to use. The fighting is ok but the goblins do shoot through obstacles and you can't lol. Not enough loot of any kind in the few chests you do find. Is the game a 10 of course not. But it can be. Give it time. You did not pay $60 plus for it. Just remember this. We are all testers now days. I live of grid and have been for the last six years. I have carry water to where I am. I have no electricity, sewage or garbage pickup. Nothin near me. I drive once a month to town for food and propane. However I have a small chest freezer, a refrigerator and 8000btu air conditioner, Starlink for internet, an xbox x, a Switch and a 1000 watt home built beats of a computer. It is called solar and it took me 6 years to build the system to handle all of that so I understand waiting and waiting just to turn on an xbox or a computer. You have to wait until the sun comes up and you best be gone before it goes down . Batteries are crazy expensive. I have enough to run the freezer, fridge and internet 24 hours a day. But if it is cloudy out no computer for the day so you wait. This game is not any different you wait and wait some more and hopefully the Devs will come through. You do have to understand this I have no income except the little I get from the VA. Well maybe the Dev is working and doing this part time or maybe it is full time for him too. The point is it is on early release and if it is there to help the dev out to make the game better so be it. Free beta testing went out long ago. Be happy that someone is at least making a game for you to enjoy or dislike. And please stop with all the whining about PVP or PVE sheesh I don't PVP why because there is enough brutality in the world. Team up and fight orcs, goblins, undead what ever. If you want to fight each other join the freaking army. I did for 8 years. I don't play games with pvp that is my choice. The game will be good or it will die and be gone but I have wasted more than $20 in my life for stupid stuff.
The game has some kind of foundation and I get it's just two guys but this isn't enough and it feels clunky. This just isn't worth it for the price and it's too risky to invest the money into it
Hallo zusammen. LG
Developers, if you are reading this PLEASE don’t be discouraged by what I am about to say. Your game has a few positives. Firstly, your character creation is very good for a game this size and the visuals are stellar. However, I can’t help but feel that this build is a little too early in development even for early access. The world is barren and doesn’t really feel like more than a chunk of rock I can walk on and that’s it. Combat suffers from similar issues, not enough variety beside the same mash button combos. Another issue I am having is just getting into the story. There aren’t any exciting intros or characters to meet at the beginning and it makes it hard to get invested. Although, flying to the main island after the tutorial was a cool idea. I also only fiddled with it for a little bit but I think your implementation of frame generation might be a tad buggy, although I am new to pc in general so this might be user error. I look forward to seeing what you guys add and will be glad to come back update my review to “Recommended” when the game feels more lively. Good luck!
Enjoyed my time exploring int this open world game. Trying find the best weapon is always appealing and they are hidden in the corners of the world. Hunting Gnomes and finding chests was satisfying. What was even more satisfying was melting the golem! Being able to explore the game at my own pace without too much noice felt refreshing and I can wait for more content! The game ran smooth on my system. I do wish that were an option to do fast runs but it wasn't a deal breaker, I got used to the pace of the game.
Edit. This is my impression of the angry reviews: You walk into a restaurant and order a booger (yes, I said booger). “I want it now!" “Sir, it isn't cooked yet.” “I understand. That's specifically why I'm ordering it now. I want early access to the booger.” They bring it out partially cooked. You take one bite. "“This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RAW!" “Yes.” “Why would you serve this?!” “Because you specifically purchased it before it was finished.” “NOT RECOMMENDED. The foundation is there, but honestly this feels like an unfinished booger. Too risky to invest $19.99 into at this stage.” ____ To the pissed off reviewers... who the ♥♥♥♥ told you that you matter this much? You bought a video game for less than twenty dollars. You did not acquire a controlling interest in the company. Seriously, what the ♥♥♥♥ are some of you crying about? Luminary released into **Early Access**. The developers are literally putting messages in the game asking players what they like, what they don't, and what needs work. They are showing you, directly, that this is something they care about and are still building, and somehow people are encountering unfinished things in the explicitly unfinished game and acting personally betrayed by the discovery. I played maybe ten or fifteen minutes tonight. That's it. This has been sitting on my wishlist for a while, I wanted to get a feel for it before bed, and I actually ran into a pretty serious bug. I got biffed, couldn't respawn properly, chose to travel to the nearest Way Tree or whatever it's called, and when I arrived my controls wouldn't work. That ended my session. It needs fixed. See how easy that is? I can report an actual problem without behaving like the developers broke into my house and stole nineteen dollars off the dresser. Because underneath that bug, I was having fun. The graphics are good, the characters look good, the world immediately made me want to explore it, and there is enough character customization that I can actually make someone I want to play instead of being handed Brooding Edgelord Number 46 with a dead wife, a beard, and unresolved feelings about his father. Thank Christ. If I'm going to stare at somebody's back for thirty hours, let me decide whose back it is. What gets me is the attitude surrounding games like this. Criticize bugs. Criticize mechanics. Tell the developers exactly what happened and what needs work. That's useful, and it's presumably one of the reasons they released into Early Access in the first place. But some of you seem incapable of distinguishing criticism from a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grievance proceeding. You spent less than twenty dollars on an unfinished indie game and suddenly you're holding a quarterly earnings call. You spend that on porn. You spend more than that ordering food you barely remember eating. You probably have forty games in your Steam library you bought on sale and never installed, but now nineteen dollars has made you an activist for consumer justice. Put the scepter down, Dave. And to the developers: I see what you're doing here. Those messages asking us to tell you what we think matter because they make it obvious there are actual people behind this who give a damn about what they're building. Putting something unfinished in front of the internet and asking strangers to help you make it better takes some guts, particularly when half the internet seems determined to treat recreation as an adversarial relationship. So keep ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ going. Fix the respawn/Way Tree issue, obviously, because I would enjoy controlling my character after I respawn. Take the useful criticism seriously and keep building the thing you wanted to build. I haven't played remotely enough to tell you that you've nailed it, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise, but I've played enough to know that when your game broke, **I wanted it back**. That's a pretty damn good first fifteen minutes. You made something unfinished that made me want to see it finished. That's what Early Access is supposed to do.
