Played on the Steamdeck @MatureContent
This is another one of those games that is priced unreasonably high, but often goes on sale 80-90% off, and at that price is actually a good deal. I got this during sale for like 4 to 5 bucks I think, and I easily found 5 bucks worth of fun in it. This game is like a mix of an arcade racer and car collecting thing, where you open packs to unlock cars that you can then race with, the perfect formula for Hot Wheels. Most of the tracks are cool, though maybe a bit too simplistic, not all of them stayed fun for long. The car collection is pretty good though and offers a lot of different Hot Wheels, from the normal kind to the crazy kind. I played this with my wife on her Steam Deck and we had fun, so I definitely recommend it if you can grab it on sale for around the same that I paid. ————————————————————————————— Help me out by following my Curator, I’d really appreciate it!!

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 24: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

after getting the same car from free lootboxes 8 times in a row, i'm actually repulsed by the amount of "MONEY, PLEASEEEEE" shoehorned into this game. it's fine. i was on a racing game kick and played multiple back to back, and this one fizzled out 100% of the momentum i had. played it for two sessions and I feel like I've seen all there is.
unforeseen consequences
I'd only recommend it tentatively. $40 is kind of steep. It's a solid arcade racer. The controls are great, and the graphics are kind of impressive. The community features like the track builder and livery editor are easy to use, though I was mostly interested in the livery editor. This game's been out for so long, it's kind of offline only. The servers are up at time of writing, but I couldn't find a match. So, I wouldn't expect to play much multiplayer if you buy this one unless you arrange it yourself. There are a bunch of vehicles in the game, but not many of them are viable, even for the offline modes. Unlike in a lot of other racing games with cars that have different levels of performance, there's no separating the bottom-tier cars and the top-tier cars, so the low- tiers have little value after you find something better. This is also a problem because the main way to obtain cars is via loot box. There is a rotating selection of cars you can buy outright, but there's no guarantee you'll find one of the few viable options, and the store takes a long time to refresh. This is pretty clearly intended to be a game for children, but the loot boxes make me think that kids shouldn't be playing it unattended. The track design is kind of hit or miss in the offline mode. A lot of time trial tracks have a bunch of obstacles that are meant to force you to restart. Some of them are 100% possible to avoid consistently, but other times there's enough randomness involved that you can just find yourself in a situation where it's borderline impossible to avoid ruining your run. There are also time trials where I don't actually think it's possible to finish by following the course as it's laid out. The game never tells you to find your own shortcuts (at least not that I remember) so I have no idea if you're intended to find shortcuts that involve skipping over large sections of track, but I don't really see how some of the expected times are possible otherwise. TL:DR - It's fine. It's not great, it's not terrible. If you're buying it for a child, then just make sure they don't have your credit card info stored in the game, and be wary of the loot boxes if you care about that kind of thing. Otherwise... maybe consider waiting for a sale before buying. I feel like $40 might have made more sense when the online still had a lot of active players, but now it feels like it's due for a price cut.
I can't recommend this game. Easy is far too easy and Medium is far too difficult for what should be the next level of difficulty. Easy may be OK for kids but they'll get stuck on the Time Trials which are far too challenging at times and won't let you progress unless you beat them. It's like the developers didn't play test the game Reducing the difficulty on Medium and relaxing the time trials would have solved these issues. Seems so easy to implement.
Extremely disappointed. The game gives you this feeling they are toys, they look like toys, visually it's a really pretty game. But the diving, physics, handling.. none of the core game mechanics give you that feeling as the cars behave just like any other normal car would, despite looking like a toy. For a game entirely based on the toy premise, it's just not what i'm gonna play
While Unleashed 2 improved some things from 1, the tracks and environments are way, WAY better in this game! And you can also mod this game while 2 is unmodable due to anti cheat. Theres a mod that transfers all of the cars (not ATV & Bikes) from 2 over to this one!
Hot Wheels Unleashed is a game I have very mixed feelings about. On the surface I expected the game to be easy to pick up and play, which it is--in a way--as the controls are easy to understand. The problem is with the handling model. The left trigger acts as the brake, and to initiate a drift you need to tap the trigger and start sliding the car, then counter steer a la Burnout or Mario Kart to steer through the corner. Most of the cars I've driven, and I've driven about 2/3 of them at this point, have either way too much understeer or oversteer uncontrollably. Out of the entire list of cars I've driven, I've found 3 that I can tolerate and find "fun" to drive. This is a shame, as the game has had a TON of love put in to the track design, the car design, the graphical quality overall. The game is incredibly well designed from a track standpoint. You could literally take the handling model from Burnout 3, Burnout Revenge, Burnout Paradise, even Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2010, and plop it in this game and I'd automatically jump the game up a 8/10. As it stands, this is a 6.5/10. And the real reason for this is below. The other big gripe I have with the game is with the difficulty balancing. The AI is difficult to the point of feeling impossible on the hard difficulty. On medium, some races feel like pushovers, and others feel impossible still. On easy, it's a pushover. And I'm writing this with the understanding that I'm using the same 3 cars for all of the levels. If you want to experiment with any cars that are not as good, then you NEED to put the difficulty down to easy as it will literally be impossible to beat some challenges, especially the time trials, as the times to beat are not possible with cars that are objectively not as good. Overall, it's a game I WANT to recommend wholeheartedly. But I simply cannot give it my full endorsement without a big asterisk, which is you need to be a big fan of Hot Wheels and racing games in general to enjoy this game. Otherwise, there are better options out there, such as Milestone's on Gravel, the Dirt Series, the NFS series, Burnout series, or literally most other arcade racers.
The racing is decent, the tracks are unique, and the graphics on the cars looks great. That is where the positives end. This is a 40-80$ game (80 for GotY ed.) that includes an unnecessary and predatory amount of DLC, Microtransactions, and straight up loot box gambling. Why loot boxes(literal gambling) is a primary feature in a fully priced racing game is confusing and infuriating. There are like 3-5 cars that are the "best" to use for most races, and they are either in the paid DLC packs or so rare from the loot boxes that you will likely never get them without paying real money in addition to buying the game itself. You can upgrade most of the main game cars with car parts you get from disassembling DUPLICATE cars you get from loot boxes, but they will never power up to be better than the paid DLC cars. I don't even have half of the cars in the game but have gotten Duplicates of trash common cars you will never use or want to use so many times I'm starting to wonder how it decides if I'll ever get a New car again. I've opened 15 boxes in a row to get a Duplicate car every single time and it's just so tiresome and sad. Way to ruin a somewhat fun racing game with mechanics that should've been made illegal for children's games by now. Hide your credit card and make sure it isn't linked to your account before allowing any child to play this without supervision. Edit: Wow, after reading more about the DLCs available, there were time limited battle passes with cars you can literally never get now. There is Zero way to get all the cars unless you have a time travel machine or buy someone else's account with them already unlocked. Way to say you hate your customers.
