What a pleasant surprise. The gameplay loop is surprisingly addictive, the art design is striking, and it's absolutely whetted my appetite for the new sequel. (There are some rough edges: French randomly appears at times; controller support is a little wonky, but still workable; and towards the end, there wasn't much incentive to change up my tactics. Once I'd figured out my rotation of skills, I pretty much plowed through the end game. But I enjoyed it.)

ive never played this genre before Hellslave, but i really loved the game. it's a little rough around the edges, but forgivably so. there's no real economic challenge, i ended up with thousands of gold pieces with nothing to spend them on. i never found myself needing or wanting, or... really knowing how to interact with the crafting. it could also do with explaining a lot more to player, such as with the demon shrines only vaguely hinting at the bonuses they give you. it's fun, though, to pick up and play every so often. has a grind, fights are long and engaging, and there's a lot of cool loot and build versatility. small enough that it never leaves my SSD too. the only thing i'd really change about it is adding some kind of ability or armor modifier that increases your potion capacity. the game goes on sale for pennies on the dollar, i think i got it when it was under $5. i'd recommend it at full price to support the solo dev.
