Helix: Descent N Ascent

4/5 on Backloggd. https://backloggd.com/u/everin/review/5077653/ Very good puzzle game for 10 hours. I could tell there was a lot going on with some additional content, and I got to the "Secret Ending" with only 65% of the game completed. However, it was pretty obvious within <5 hours that I would miss collectibles purely based on the game's art style and it being kind of hard to tell what's going on visually in certain rooms, especially when at least one was in one of those "oh that's actually a doorway and not a wall" situations. Looking into where everything I didn't find might vaguely be, I'm absolutely not up to the task of redoing nearly the entire game just to find some scraps of paper and solve some more riddles. I ended the game not even knowing what the secret codes were for or understanding how you'd beat many of the arcade cabinets, but when those were so unfun to play in the first place, it's a little hard to care. Later parts of the game even break the visual rules the game has set and allow you to hookshot to an object that had never before been established as a target for that mechanic, which is kind of a game design sin for a game with this many mechanics going on and this many rooms -- now I just don't trust that I know where I could have ever gone with that mechanic in the first place. Some puzzles are just a little obtuse in ways where it feels like the game is broken (one in particular with a dragonfly), though that's the vast minority, and that problem is inevitable in a game that's so ambitious with its mechanics and puzzle design. That said, a forgiving 4/5 just because the aesthetic is peak, a lot of the mechanics are really fun, and the execution is, for the most part, very clever and satisfying.

A very interesting and unique puzzle game! I played to the point of collecting all 25 Glyphs and consider myself satisfied. There are some optional especially hard relics to find, but I do think the slowness of changing powers and playing back through already completed levels discourages me from coming back to 100% the game, but the core content was more than satisfying all by itself for me. ^w^

Relaxing... Mysterious... If you like puzzle games, and just taking your time thinking of how to solve what's in front of you to progress to the next step, surrounded with beautiful visuals and music, this game is for you.

挺好的独立游戏，解谜大部分不难，内容量挺充足的，也是打了个全成就（时长有很长时间的挂机，不能参考），首发也算值回票价。现在bug修了很多，操作也优化了。不过一些重复性操作还是比较多的，显得繁琐。

Avec son univers entièrement dessiné à la main, sa bande-son qui colle à l’ambiance, ses nombreuses mécaniques de gameplay et son exploration constamment renouvelée grâce aux nouveaux pouvoirs, le titre propose une aventure qui fait travailler le cerveau tout en étant contemplatif. J’ai beaucoup apprécié le fait que le jeu ne repose pas sur des combats ou une quelconque difficulté punitive, ça change. Ici, impossible de mourir. On prend simplement le temps d’observer, d’expérimenter et de résoudre les différents casse-têtes à son rythme. Tout n’est évidemment pas parfait. Certaines phases manquent de précision, le changement fréquent des touches associées aux pouvoirs devient vite déroutant, et les passages lumineux sont tellement blancs et « blurry » qu’ils peuvent vite fatiguer les yeux. Mais malgré ces petits défauts, Helix: Descent N Ascent réussit à proposer une aventure originale, fraiche, reposante et agréable à parcourir. Si vous aimez les jeux de réflexion, d’exploration et qui misent davantage sur leur ambiance que sur l’action, il mérite clairement le détour.

More and more I'm being served ads for games that I find very interesting, and this is one that I'm very glad I gave a chance. It's one of the few puzzle games that I haven't felt myself hitting a brick wall on, every puzzle is intuitive enough to make me think without feeling like I have to plan 10 steps ahead
