Every time I pick up this game, I get angry at how lacking the tutorial and explanation of the systems in the game remains even years after it released. I get that they want to encourage you to solve problems in unique ways, but they don't even explain the systems around that. Anyway, I get frustrated every time I try to play this and I like complex games, usually. Not this one.
If I could give this game a middle rating I would. The core gameplay loop of light stealth and action planning is good, nice controls, responsive, and explained well. However, there isn't much loot variety and certain items you always need at high levels, such as the ability to turn off shields on otherwise invulnerable enemies. While you can unlock items as you progress, the unlocks are just improvements on the base item type, such as having a higher ammo capacity. Once an item is unlocked you directly buy it on your next playthrough. So while you can restart with a different character, that different character essentially plays the same as your last, quickly buying or finding the same gear you had last time. It eventually feels quite repetitive.

doesn't boot up
Despite discovering gamebreaking mechanic of crashing fullspeed into ships with your ship I played this game for like 3 times, really liked every playtrough
I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me! *hits Space*
Fun little sandbox that took me just as much time on an older non-Steam version. Steal a prototype in 10 seconds with teleports and legal speedhacks, all without leaving a trace? Doable. Slaughter everybody with double-wielded katanas? Doable. Execute someone without even boarding their ship? Doable (hint:
torpedoes
). Might get a bit repetitive, especially if going for full galaxy clear, though endgame challenges are there in the form of Glory missions. Have fun clearing a ship full of armored exploding guards with only two items in the inventory, while being hunted by insta-kill teleporting mercenaries, literally just because you can. Overall, it does that "making terrible mistakes and thinking of clever ways out" thing pretty well... as well as the "making terrible mistakes and bleeding out in space" thing. Nice aesthetics of locations and ships, too. Even the achievement icons are so pretty. ♫2nd Class♫
Once, I took a Mistake contract for around 190 acid- a simple job to steal a contraption from an offworld ship. Fairly standard- emergency shields, heat sensors, alarm response of heavy reinforcements. Not a huge problem. I docked with the ship, and ended up firing my loud gun. The alarm was triggered, but I didn't want to abandon the contract, no; the sunk cost fallacy wouldn't allow it. Over the course of the next 15 minutes, I became a god. I tore a bloody trail of deceit and death through the poor unsuspecting Predators and Hunters I faced. I had to flee to a station to restock ammo twice; I took two bullets and still I came back. I was the Alien, I was the Predator, I was the Terminator. I meticulously tore apart every person on that ship and lived to tell the tale. 10/10 game. Love it to death.
