This game is 8 years old and is still in early access, the developer will likely not finish it any time soon. The developer, a man named Jason, is a narcissist and opposed the Stop Killing Games movement, which directly harms game preservation and consumer rights. (He also claimed this game is unpirateable... which its not, prior to buying this I actually did play the game unofficially and had gotten past the measures extremely easily) I ended up buying this game and pushing myself past the 2 hour mark out of common decency and giving the minimum amount of respect. While I wish I refunded the game. I forked over the cash out of principles. The programming of this game is amateur quality at best and horribly unoptimized at worst, the only reason this game runs well is because of the art style saving it by being low weight pixel art. Dialogue skipping isn't an option despite how much the characters yap and how slow the text displays.
the dev has no intention to finish the game.

Story? What story? Updates? What updates? Combat? What combat? Choices? What choices?
Many a time ago, I bought this game, and while I enjoyed it, it felt hollow. (Of course it did. This is an early access game, despite the version is past v1 (which means finished)) I then looked up the developer to find their dev logs, since steam updates had been unusually quiet. What I found, was a f****ing gaming channel. A popular one, where every stream at best he would program like 15 minutes at a time and then game the rest. I'd be fine with this if his game was free. It's not. I didn't even get it on sale. This was all before the controversies started happening. After a bit of denial, I gave up on waiting. Next I heard about him was the controversies. Now there's this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 1-month update thing where the list of update changes is shorter than his d***, and every month when I open steam I look at the recent news and see that, yes, Pirate Heartbound has updated exactly 5 things, no more no less, and I am reminded of this dumpster fest of pure unadulterated disappointment and rage. If you are to play this game, pirate it, and if possible, hack into The manager's bank account and steal 10 dollars. You can spend those 10 dollars on anything else Also, completing content requires you to play the entire game again, which means for like 1 extra boss fight (when there's normally 2 boss fights and the boss fights are actually 1 boss fight placed twice, which means double the boss fights), you have to play through the entire game again, do something slightly wrong, play through it again, do something wrong, play through it again, do everything right, play through it again, etc. etc. etc. And the puzzles are boring, don't change, and are unintuitive.
Updates are basically nothing, this game will never come out.
This game worked at Blizzard for 7 years.
Abandonware. Thor can't code but pretends to. Game will never be finished.
dont buy this. Game been in development hell for YEARS. They are still working on the second of 3 area's. Gameplay wise its also just walking around and talking. 'Puzzles' are WAY too easy. Only 2 combat sequences in the game and they are both the same. Not worth it.
bought this game when i was a teenager, now an adult and the game is still not finished. sad to see
This game has been in development for longer than nepo baby worked at Blizzard.....
