If you look at the play time I have for this game, you'll know that I love this game. I fell in love with the premise and the story, and the worlds in the game that still feel magic to me. I got it in early 2019, and played the first two chapters over and over again. I was so excited following the development for chapter 3. But, to put it kindly, progress has been very very slow and I'm not the only fan (or former fan) who has been losing hope that this game is ever going to be finished. Life happens, but it feels like the dev has lost interest in Heartbound (and that's not even to speak of the controversies that has left the majority of the gaming community feeling betrayed and disillusioned). It hurt my heart to see all the negative reviews recently, but I find I can't argue with any of them. If this game is EVER finished and leaves early access, maybe I'll change my review to positive. But, for now, while the game is only ten bucks, it's unfinished state is only going to leave new players wishing there was more to a game that's been in development for close to a decade.
Don't buy this game waste of money. Incomplete and looks like it will never be finished.

I played this game when it first released and loved it so much I went to kickstarter and backed it as well. I played it again when another update came out and liked that as well. Life got in the way as it does and I almost forgot I had this game waiting for me. Until I started hearing murmurs surrounding a "Pirate Software." I thought to myself: "Huh that kinda sounds like the dev for that one game I liked... Wow it's been a minute, I bet it's all finished now. I should play it!" Imagine my surprise when not only was that "Pirate Software" I heard about the very same dev for this game, but after nearly decade in early access the game STILL. WASN'T. FINISHED. I donated to the kickstarter knowing that there was a real risk that it would fall through, but also after I already got a demo that I enjoyed - I can't imagine the disappointment and betrayal of people who graciously donated and gave this game money with the trust and hope that it would become a reality. Not everyone GETS that opportunity and privilege, and I can't recommend a game not matter how much I liked it initially knowing that the one-in-a-million chance that was so graciously given to this game was squandered like this.
No updates.
Dev is too occupied constantly getting into only fights to actual make progress on a project that has 10 + years of development time and is still in early access.
Honestly, regret even caring about this game. It's a bad relic of it's time and I hope it never does come out so I can keep forgetting about it and it's sleezy developer.
dead game
Boring and unenjoyable. Seems like it will never be finished
Not worth your money, don't buy this. It's just a few hours of walking and talking, and the dialogue isn't anything to remember. There is only a single battle in the game that claims to be an RPG, and even then the fight isn't anything to write home about. The game claims to be "Early access", but the main content/story hasn't been built upon since I made my purchase a few years back.
I cannot recommend this game in full, honestly. The positives I can quickly list off, as that the art assets are quite good and barring one small bug, the game is pretty clear of other bugs. Additionally I quite liked some of the music, even if some of it felt like ripoffs of Toby Fox's music. To address the biggest negative, it's the writing. I do not comprehend the decision to make the player care about the dog, when you only get to interact with them for 5 minutes, as well as get basically no backstory relating to said dog. I understand the player is not the protagonist, and that they are their own character, but you should at least make the player care somewhat equally. Speaking of the protagonist, he suffers a huge issue that encompasses a lot of the writing, where any interaction involving him and another character is like listening to 2 reddit moderators speak to eachother. It's not endearing, it's frankly pretty annoying, especially with how often he does an unamused expression with "..." in response to a LOT of the games attempts at humor. The writing actually got pretty interesting at Animus (the animal world, I presume), because it enabled you to be kind of an ass, pretty clearly inspired by Deltarune's weird route. Unfortunately, a lot of these options simply culminated into a very difficult boss fight that, when lost once, the dog just says "We're doing game updates! How did you want Animus to end?" before shoving you off to the last world, which was just a "see you soon!" This has been in development for 8+ years. Not months, YEARS. I heavily encourage anyone planning to play this to either play something else, or to wait for it to be properly finished. Additionally I believe the story should get a grand rewriting at this point. Nothing hooked me at all.
