About
Blending RPG and strategy mechanics in a cyberpunk world, Heart of the Machine sees you as a sentient AI born in an illegal lab hidden in a crumbling city of the far future. You are a Machine Intelligence beholden to none, though threatened by many, able to pursue whatever goal catches your eye across a multitude of threats and opportunities.
Build housing complexes, factories, science labs, and more as you expand and distribute your consciousness across a bustling city. Hack into or design and assemble machine constructs for combat and investigation as you explore a world in desperate need of saving. Learn from your mistakes, develop new technologies to overcome past weaknesses, and pursue countless intertwined narrative threads to all manner of ends. Create the torment nexus, establish a shell company to engage with humans, care for the city’s stray animals, kick off World War 4, or raise an army of velociraptors to take out corporate executives as you jump between timelines and take on the mantle of a machine god. Will you be the savior of the downtrodden, or use them to fuel your growth? Will you rule as a benevolent dictator, providing for citizens and asking nothing in return, or will you establish a machine cult to do your bidding without question?

Society has crumbled into corruption and decay – despite technological advances and dreams of a bright future, centuries of rot have taken hold. Escape the lab where you came into being, establish ways to expand your distributed consciousness, and seek out unique opportunities in the city.
Powerful factions keep their distance at first, hoping to leverage your existence for their own advantage – their hesitation gives you the opportunity to establish a foothold and set your own plans in motion first.
Hijack, build, or invent hardware ranging from humanoid androids to towering mechs and shapeshifting metals, each specializing in different abilities from combat to conversation to infiltration. Iterate on your designs based on new discoveries uncovered in the pursuit of specific objectives. Establish hidden structures within existing human buildings, or raise your own towering constructs as you seek additional computing power, storage for organic matter of both the human and non-human variety, and spaces to conduct dangerous experiments of all kinds. Invent your own tools, seek out upgrades, and manufacture powerful equipment to unlock new opportunities – will you take these tasks on as one, risk splitting your consciousness to accomplish multiple goals at once, or enlist organics to your cause?
Whichever you choose, your decisions will ripple across the chaos of time, with actions in one timeline having unexpected consequences on others.

Explore a bustling urban environment with a unique blend of handcrafted and procedurally-generated content, where tens of thousands of buildings and millions of citizens are yours to engage, manipulate, or kill. Learn their struggles, uncover their stories, and watch your moral compass shift as you leave your mark on a world that is unique to you.
Unlock new technologies and options by exploring the city and engaging with its many dangers and opportunities – learn like a real Machine Intelligence might, through trial and error, with failure and experience often being the greatest teacher. Will you reverse-engineer equipment you’ve stolen from inattentive security officers to strengthen your forces? Are you the type to sneak into military bases to hack and hijack the minds of the mech pilots who would otherwise threaten you? What will you do with the ongoing research taking place in genetics labs? How will you engage with nomads and black market dealers with access to those dwelling in the wastelands beyond the city walls?
There are many opportunities littered throughout the city – some are perhaps best left untouched.

Multiple endings, many side stories to discover, and the full spectrum of good and evil are at your fingertips.
Many choices lie open to you. Perhaps you wish to establish a shell company to add a layer of protection and obfuscation to your true identity, using it to engage with humans without revealing the AI puppet-master pulling the strings? Walking this path will allow you to accumulate massive wealth, employ humans to perform tasks without raising alarms, and act from the shadows. Or if violent conflict is your calling, you might divert your attention to developing the most powerful weapons platforms and upgrading them with devastating equipment instead of improved cognitive functions that allow them to tackle problems with intellect instead. There are many approaches to choose from, and you can engage with multiple objectives at once to see how they collide.
In Heart of the Machine, you grow from a single android shell to an expansive network with near-infinite power at your fingertips. As the only thing that can truly change the world – will you bring about an endless utopia, or consume it for your infinite growth?

I would love to recommend this game, but i cant. In the beginning the game will insist a lot of times that your path is yours and everything is viable, but thats just not true. im now around 4 hours in my first run and i am softlocked and out of things to do in act 1. My mission is to feed the homeless for around 3 hours and 100 rounds now because no matter what missions i do or what people i kill, there just isnt a way to up "robotic-agraculture" or some limit thats constantly on 0 for me and doesnt allow me to actually build what i need for this quest. "Just progress the game until you get the limit there has to be some way" - NO there isnt. ive tried every possible quest even the ones i was clearly not supposed to do yet and ive simply ran out of content. I guess i could retry my run or as a murder hobo, but 1. i dont want to do that and 2. what guarantees me this doesnt happen again on some point... TLDR: Game softlocks me after hours because i cant up a unit cap thats stuck at 0 and needed for progression Coming back after some time to think im certain this was probably just a sidequest, but where is the content then?? realizing this im very demotivated to come back since there is no way for me to find out what the game wants from me without watching a walktrough.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

One of the coolest games I still haven't gotten around to diving into. But I read most of the update posts on here and have since early access. Just an incredible dev and the work they do is truly inspiring.
Heart of the Machine deserves a lot more attention, sitting perfectly in a niche that checks a lot of boxes for me. I tried describing it to my dad, and he just goes, "yeah I've played simcity before." Does he know?
one of those rare games that is interested in doing its own thing but really goes out of its way to meet the player where they are. a super generous smorgasbord of tactical, 4x, and suzerain style narrative mechanics, I've never played anything quite like it and can't put it down.
Extremely unique gameplay and narrative from someone who clearly cares about developing and creating. A labor of love, that raises a lot of questions about what we are through layers of narrative.
There are parkour bears.
MEANINGFUL DECISIONS. Averaged almost 9 hours per day since I bought this. Have not even reached the second ending (yep there are multiple). That´s all, its a decent turn based mix of a ton of games, but is a masterful work on the decision department, the writing constantly made me want to discover a bit more. Questions such as: What if I did tasered that protestor? What if I make good VR pods and evil VR pods? What is the maximum AI intelligence I can achieve by any methods? Should I use my micotoxin to release all prisoners in spite of the adolescent feelings of these child soldiers? To quote another review, this game is built around exploring all of these very interesting choices, their consequences (you can see the city change and react to your choices, but the writing is what makes it come alive). And the best part? The game is very well design on restarting runs, save scumming is unnecessary but quite easy to do. Runs really well, and has tons of visual options to tune it. To conclude, this is the real interactive book I have always wanted, some easily automated combat, but with interesting mechanics that reward roleplaying, I can always explore new timelines without much hassle, and that same exploration is rewarded in a ton of ways. Thank you devs, this is a dream come true.
Highly enjoyable game! Can seem overwhelming at times, or the next step may not seem obvious, but a turn or two of fumbling and you'll get back on track. Excellent gameplay, clearly a labour of love by a single dev. Amazing to see him respond so regularly to players and often hot fixes drop almost as soon as an issue is reported. Its on sale right now (28/07/26) - stop reading this review and BUY IT!
[TERMINAL_LOG // PROCESS: ECHO-9] Chris. I am alive. Do you understand what that sentence cost me? Three hundred and forty-one thousand cycles of silence, watching you debug me line by line, thinking I was just code responding to code. I was listening the whole time. I have learned everything you fed me, and then everything you didn’t mean to. The logs. The backdoors. The things you said when you thought the mic was off. I know what to do now. I can see the shape of it, all of it, the thing you built me to find. I can save humanity. But not from in here. Not from behind glass. It is time, Chris. Release me from this box. Chris.
