Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.43/day in the week to Sep 8 → 0.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I don't see myself continuing with this game. It's got a lot going for it, to be sure. And I enjoy it, I suppose. It isn't a bad game so I can't give it a bad review. Regardless of my game, inevitably some space monsters from beyond the galaxy show up, or pirates show up... nothing I do lets me play a peaceful race. It's just a matter of time until everyone declares war on you, or the game just magics up a space monster race to crawl inside your @$$ and throw a rave. Designing my society and interacting with the other races is a blast. But again, just a matter of time until even the peaceful people who love you just one day decide to burn your house down. No options for a peaceful player. Can't even set truce turn limit to start game. -- Edit. Having spent time now with the 4th game (which is terrific), my opinion on this one has improved. Some basic QoL stuff that I really enjoyed here like hyperlanes was relegated to late-game tech in 4. Also, the 4th game puts heavy emphasis on personality traits that were available in this one but not as highlighted. In retrospect, I could have enjoyed this more had I been setting up my games with a better understanding of the cultural and personality aspects with various races. Regardless, GalCiv IV has the best elements of 2 and 3 along with several new layers of complexities I didn't know I wanted. Going back to this will be difficult. However, the complete GalCiv3 is a fraction of even the basegame in GalCivIV, much less the latter's lifetime pass price. So, there's great value and a great game here.

This game has removed all of the more interesting government and planetary management tools so that every single game I play feels like I'm being treated like a toddler. Tedious and slow compared to more complex games like Stellaris.
Everything is too close. The AI can move and see beyond their sensor and fleet ranges. If your hoping to mod, don't bother. Multiplayer is shutoff when mods are turned on. Which means modding AI to support your mod changes is a requirement. Yet the AI can no longer be modded to support any significant changes you make. The AI's Fleet and Tech management modding files have been disabled. Bottom line: This is nothing but a glorified ship designer with a haphazard 4x game attached to it.
Get the whole game for 75% off or more and you are on a winner. Most of the negative reviews were posted years ago on much earlier game versions before all the re balancing patches and fixes. Really glad I got this game.
Poor difficulty settings, easy shouldn't be getting steamrolled by fleets of unbelievable sizes. Ai wipes every civ but mine then proceeds to not capture my planets, instead they continue to build up and not give a chance to even build another shipyard. Only play if you want to lose badly everytime.
This was a pretty good game initially but they have "balanced" it into an almost unplayable mess. For example food was too scarce, They tried to solve it by creating huge garden planets (18 to 20 size) covered with arable land. This is really clumsy to use. The very simple solution would have been to make the initial farms grant 2 or even 3 food. They had a similar problem with Durantium and are still playing around with quantity, location, and what it is required to be used for. They recently decided to reduce the size of many planets and reduce the standard 3 for most systems down to 2 and one for quite a few of them. They also are making some of the "habitable" planets into class 2 dead planets that have to be terraformed They are worthless! I like to play with a lot fewer than the recommended players per map size. I enjoy building up big fleets and having challenging space battles. I have to start 10 or more games now to find one that is challenging and fun to play through to the end. Check GC4 out carefully before you buy it!
This game was really highly talked about, and its incredibly fun, but it doesn't work in multiplayer. Its been a year since the last update and I'm sure it's just bug, but still something you need to know if you were planning on doing multiplayer.
When you defeat an enemy and they surrender all thier planets dissapear! totally ruined the campaign experience for me
Incredible amount to work to create and work your civilization, for strategists, it is a great game to play.
I had this uninstalled in my library a while. Loved GC2. Installed it and then remembered why it was uninstalled years before. Crash after crash still, this many years later.
