Reviews
Let me preface this review by saying that I have never written a review on Steam and I have 11 years of service to this platform. Forspoken is a gem that ages just like red wine. Although the story is a bit cliche, it is a beautiful Isekai with a lot of things to offer. First of all the combat is simple but tight. The variety of skills offered to Frey are very interesting and give a wide opportunity to experiment. You might go in expecting pew pew magical FPS but there is so much more to it. It definitely get better the more you play. The character of Frey is a very interesting one. She does not play to cliche and she offers a fresh idea on representation in gaming. All the people worried about her swearing and brunt attitude do not simply get or understand that she is a "street kid" with a lot of trauma. I found her to be very human and mature by the end of the game. The graphics are definitely beautiful now I don't know if I would go as far as to call them "Next Gen" but they are gorgeous. There are multiple vistas in the game that take your breath away and it was/is a pleasure to spend some time in Athia. The core loop of the game is extremely repetitive but it is a pleasant one. If you are looking for something cutting edge and innovative this ain't it. You find a rest point, You bring out your map, note point of interest, You go to every single one of them. Rinse and Repeat until you get to your next main point in the story and then eventually Big Beautiful Boss fight. As I said not ground breaking but it is a pleasant one with a variety of stuff to do (Stat points, Cat collecting, Picture challenge, Special Challenge, Animal Dens, Field Boss Fights...) You won't get bored, trust me. Overall I greatly enjoyed the game (167 hours in) and even though I completed the main story, I have yet to finish the DLC and I still have huge areas of the map that I have yet to explore. Indeed, Forspoken lore is hidden into books, painting, old writings and the environment so you will have to work to piece the pieces together. Thank you for this amazing trip Square Enix and thank you again for taking the time and giving a chance to a character that was different and relatable at the same time. It is unfortunate to see the reaction of a certain kind of people to Frey and it is sad to see that the studio closed. However, another certain kind of people saw what you did and will forever be grateful for it. Some time the things we do are not understood at the moment but with the passage of time, people come and revisit them. I believe that in a couple of years and in a different political climate, people we'll see what you tried to do... and will finally be human.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 28: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.89/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

If you like to do everything, this game is going to take a while. Tons of enemies including variant mutants and sprawling landscapes with things to do everywhere. Each time you take over a new Tanta weapon set, its like playing something new which I enjoyed but the game is long if you try to get everything. And if you get through all of that, go ahead and buy the DLC, it starts you over with a new girl that gains similar powers but still feels pretty fun, and the game is gorgeous if your computer can handle it.
I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did, but I’m honestly surprised more people aren’t giving it a chance. I had a great time. Story and Premise This is one of the best isekai games currently available. Frey gets summoned to another world and is basically forced to save it, not just survive it, and her “cheat magic” is used in a really fun way that fits the genre and its not even an isekai. With a few mods, you could push it even further toward a weeb dream if that’s your thing. The jokes aside, the overall tone and storytelling are strong even without mods. Replay and Content Even if you rush the main quest, you’re looking at 30+ hours of gameplay. After the story is done, there’s still more content and story to keep going. Verdict Worth playing even if it’s not on sale. I finished the game, and that says a lot. I paid full sticker price for Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed and didn’t stick with either of them, but this one genuinely kept my interest the whole way through.
Totally enjoyable play-though of the main quest. This character has a dev arc, the attitudes make sense in the end. Not every story has to be handed out in easy to consume bits. The level traversal is very fun, lots of 3d movement. Too many options for spells :P
I cant remember the last time I had so little fun playing a game. I though the price of $20 would make it bearable, but I just cant finish it. -Frustrating combat controls and unintuitive keyboard controls (click F for everything!). -A truly janky game engine (on a 4070 boss fights would slow to a crawl and hiccup uncontrollably). -One of the most unnecessary barren worlds I've ever seen, as if it was tailor made to waste your time. -ALL the side content in the world, non quest, is designed to be done AFTER you finish the story. -The map goes from almost useful to... completely NOT just by zooming in. -Questionable storytelling techniques (here, let me NOT show you a character pouring a drinking a drink in a scene where that's ALL THAT'S HAPPENING!). -And mindboggling bad game design (Frozen controls for no reason, story being told in random dialogue you can miss, character changing appearance (fight damage) and clothes in scenes not 2 feet from one another, and sooooo much more). I like Frey. I like the cats. I even like the damn Cuff. The basic Sci-Fi fish out of water story is interesting, and having Frey fight "Earth Morals" vs "Crazy Disney Queen Hellscape Morals" is interesting. I even liked the idea of the nails, cloaks and necklaces as gear. All that's fun. Someone in charge at Square played this and said "Yep! Ship it!" This had to be some sort of Tax Writeoff. If "What the f**k?" was a game, it would be Forspoken.
This game unfortunately received a lot of backlash, and most of it came from people who bought it, left a bad review, and then refunded it. You can literally filter out reviews from people who played less than Steam’s 2-hour refund window if you want to avoid those kinds of takes. The game itself offers a really fun combat system, but there are definitely moments where it feels too cluttered. The world also isn’t as lively as you’d expect, and a lot of it looks pretty barren. The parkour and other movement mechanics make up for that a bit, though. The story could have been handled better too. Frey comes across as emotionally immature at times and can be unnecessarily unlikeable. That really should not happen with a main character. Players should not feel like the character they are controlling is being rude or obnoxious for no good reason. On top of that, they also should have done more with each Tanta individually. All in all: Combat: 3.5/5 If the jank was gone, it would be amazing. Story: 4/5 If you ignore Frey being unnecessarily rude at times, it’s still solid. Parkour & Movement: 5/5 Easily one of the most satisfying parts of the game. Performance: 4/5 They improved the framerate a lot, but there are still moments where the game randomly drops from 120 FPS to 28 for no clear reason.
Played through the entire base game which was... okay I guess, but not particularly original. There is a TON of exposition that's just unskipable slow walking while an NPC talks at you. I then tired to play the DLC, the game started the cutscene, and then went back to the base game. No way to get into the DLC I would be upset had I not bought the delux version on sale, but at this point, I just don't want to play anymore. Up until the DLC there weren't any major techincal issues, but this just got me to uninstall the game. Also, the developer was absolutely NO help at all in resolving the issue as they just don't care about this game or its sales.
A Misunderstood Gem with Incredible Gameplay I’ve put 41 hours into Forspoken so far, and I still haven’t even finished the main story because I’m having too much fun checking every single nook and cranny and collecting everything on the map. It completely baffles me why this game got so much hate online. Is it perfect? No. Sometimes the world can feel a bit blank, and yeah, some of the side fights get a little repetitive. But let’s be real—what open-world game nowadays doesn’t have that? It’s pretty hard to find a game where every single encounter is 100% unique. What matters is that the core magic parkour and combat loop are so fun that I don't even care about the repetition. Zooming around and combining different elemental spells feels amazing once it clicks. As for Frey, I know everyone complained about her being "cringe," but people completely ignore her backstory. She’s an orphan who grew up rough on the streets of New York. Her swearing, defensive attitude, and awkward jokes actually make sense for someone with that kind of trauma. She’s putting up a wall. Watching her slowly lower her guard and grow into her role actually felt pretty realistic to me.
The negative reviews have a point. The dialog is beyond cringy. Common sense for human interaction is out the window, not in an endearing way, but a painfully awkward and tactless way. The first two hours are horrendous. Boring and confusing plot points to push the story along. Over-explanation of obvious game mechanics. Little to no explanation of other nuance (like leveling up spells). This is a positive review, though. After the slow start, the game really opens up. Stick with the story quests until you kill the first big bad. Lots of space to roam around in with enemies and activity points. I completely disagree with the comments saying the open world is barren. The traversal mechanics as well as the spells and smooth flow between attacks. Chaining together active and passive magic and different types of magic is super fun. I keep finding myself coming back to this game for how fun it is to play. TL;DR - First two hours are boring and not fun. After you get past some of the main story the open world becomes really fun to explore and really fun to play.
