First time playing (any) FF7: Definitely what it's cracked up to be. The gameplay is an improvement on traditional turn-based JRPGs with the live turn system. The Limit breaks are good fun, and the materia/gear system is really creative. Where the game really gets you though, is the narrative. The themes, characters and story really pull you in. The game's characters are so beloved (even over other FF series characters) because there's so much heart, attention and detail placed in every part of the narrative, making it unforgettable. There's a little bit of jank around the edges. Some of the dialogue choices and random bits are a bit juvenile and sometimes "dated", but this can also be true at the same time of the aforementioned main pieces of themes, characters and narrative carrying big time. The world and music are incredible, amplifying the moods and emotions of the game. They highly complement the narrative elements, making every location and scene feel iconic. Overall, it's incredible. So I'll add my own voice to the infinitely large sentiment that this video game classic is absolutely worth playing.

As I am making my way through the series of Final Fantasy, this game is absolutely breathtaking! To be made only a few years after FFVI, to elevate the game graphically to this level is impressive. It is considered one of the greatest games of all time and I can see why on many levels. Story telling is raised by the use of 3D animation and cutscenes, Character design, plot choices and expansion on the term "fantasy" allows this game to tell a unique story so different from the previous Final Fantasy games. As far as the 2026 version, while I had the 2013 version as well, I did end up playing this version. I played it vanilla with no enhancement mods to get the pure version of the game, so I had no complaints with this iteration.

①良かった点 ・ストーリー 1～6までプレイしてから7をプレイしましたが、ストーリーは総合的に断トツかなと感じました。PS移行の一作目ということで気合を感じました。ボリュームがあるのに、飽きない。序盤はちょっとつらい人もいるかも。特にエアリスやティファとのロマンスは過去作とは毛色の違う深い話だと思います。 ・魔法の強化 1～6までってなんだかんだ物理最強ってイメージでした。魔法は敵の弱点を知って効果的に使えないと強さを引き出せない、一方物理はレベル上げてれば比較的簡単に強くなる。そんな1～6から7は全体的に魔法が強くなっていて、序盤から終盤にかけて主力として扱っていく感覚がありました。マテリアとの兼ね合いもあって魔法、マテリアの組み合わせは戦略性がありました。 ・寄り道要素 どれも気合入ってて、寄り道のミニゲーム一つとってもやりこみの要素がありました。攻略本、いまでいうと攻略サイトありきのPS時代のゲームって感じですね。一つのゲームで長期間遊ぶ時代だったのでこのあたりの難易度は今の時代だと肌に合わない人も多いかもしれないです。 ②不満点 ・面白いマテリアが軒並み後半、終盤でしか入手できない。 面白い効果で、組み合わせを考えると楽しくなるマテリアは軒並み後半、終盤ダンジョンに集中していてもっと早く手に入ってればなぁって思いました。折角マテリアは戦略・ビルドの根幹であるのに幅が広がるのがラスボス前って印象がどうしてもあります。 ・戦闘におけるキャラの特徴が薄味 マテリアによってビルドがほぼ決まってくる分、戦闘におけるキャラの特徴っていうのを感じずらかったです。だれでもいいじゃんって悪く言えばそんな感じ。リミット技が唯一の個性ですね。やっぱりFF5のジョブシステムが恋しいです。キャラを育てたって感覚が欲しいです。このゲームは良くも悪くもマテリアを育てるゲームです。 ・音楽 本当にごめんなさい。確かに良い曲はあります。7にもFFの歴代でも名曲と言われる曲がありますし、好きな曲もあります。でも、でもなんか物足りない。1のメインテーマ、2の反乱軍のテーマ、3のバトル2、4のラスボス曲、5のビッグブリッジの死闘、6のティナのテーマ、アリア。正直これらと比べると印象が薄い、、、エアリスのテーマは確かに最高でした、クレイジーモーターサイクルも好きです。でも、なんですよね、、、本当にごめんなさい。こればっかりは好みですね。 ・ブースト機能 かなり不満。経験値4倍、ギル4倍とかのピクセルリマスターと同じが良かったです。無敵モードは扱いずらい。かといってブーストなしではかなりのプレイ時間を要しますね。使わないのが勿論一つの選択肢ですが、昔のゲームをサクッと遊んでみたいって人に対して、いささか雑なブーストかなと思います。 ③感想 ストーリーがFF1～7の中で一番、戦闘・育成面はうーんって感じでした。FF6からの系譜を感じます。ただ、FFシリーズの中でもトップクラスの人気を誇るのは納得です。正直個人的には未だにFF5のが好きですが、FF7とどっちが長く遊べるかと聞かれたら7でしょう。キャラの複雑な感情・物語などが6から一気にリアリティを上げてきた印象です。誰しもが抱える心の光と闇みたいのを複雑にストーリーに絡めてきていてもはや映画・ドラマ級ですね。良い意味でも悪い意味でも後のFFシリーズが映画みたいと言われてきている源流であるかもしれないです(FF6あたりからとよく言われてますね)。戦闘面においてはFF6からの系譜でパーティーがストーリーの進行でとっかえひっかえになるので、6でいう幻獣がマテリアに。誰でもマテリアを付け替えれば様々なロールにカスタマイズできる。一見画期的だとは思いますが、あまり好きじゃないです。そのキャラの物語みたいのが戦闘に感じない感覚です。ブースト機能はアップデートしてほしいです。8,9,10に関しても。

This game is such a retro vibe, brings back so many memories of the late 90's. Are the graphics up to par with current gen, most definetly not. But a great storyline, an efficient turn based fighting game. FF VII is my favorite FF of all time. Ofcourse this is my personal opinion and with this I'm pretty much aging myself but I remeber back then when I played it on the first playstation the graphics were out of this world, so good. I'm hooked and if you search you can buy this game frequently for well under 10 bucks. Now in 2026 I'm reliving the 90's and I'm happier then when I play any current CoD, Baldur's Gate 3 or pretty much anything. Basicly all that's missing is a CRT monitor to and an ancient PC to make the retrofeel complete.
