About

The world has fallen under the dominion of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a sinister corporation that has monopolized the planet's very life force as Mako energy. In the urban megalopolis of Midgar, an anti-Shinra rebel group calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their campaign of resistance.
Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra's elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the rebels, unaware that he will be drawn into an epic battle for the fate of the planet, while having to come to terms with his own lost past.
This product is an upgraded version of FINAL FANTASY VII – 2013 Edition with additional features (there are no changes or additions to the story).

The following extra features are included:

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 5.11/day in the week to Aug 4 → 6.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

As a fan of the early entries of the franchises and Square Enix titles I thought it was time I gave this classic a go and see what makes it the fan favourite of the series. What I discovered is - this game is an inconsistent, ugly, janky mess. The villain of the story is terribly written. He starts off as a companion, a war hero, and mentor but almost immediately becomes a genocidal, self righteous maniac with no personality or logic. He burns a village and kills its inhabitants for no real discernible reason. I didn't understand him at all. You spend the game lazily hunting him down with no real plan at all when you find him, (despite being aware of how powerful he is), only for him to brush you off and fly away... because.. of course. It makes exploration feel pointless and meaningless, and progressing through the story annoying knowing it won’t eventuate to anything, just point you in a different direction and have you moving forward into the most absurd road blocks that constantly makes you ask ‘what the hell am I even doing?’, or ‘how did I end up here?’. Why am I at a theme park right now? The protagonist is brooding, indifferent and also lacks any sort of personality or growth. It’s weird how everyone in the world is endeared to him, when most of his responses are ‘yeah…’. or ‘don’t care’. The game also has a real problem with misogynistic portrayals of women. They all swoon over Cloud endlessly, and submit themselves to damsel archetypes. It's gross. The story has obvious themes of environmentalism but is inconsistent with its tone, atmosphere and pacing. One minute you’re living the aftermath of committing an act of terrorism with hundreds of innocents killed in the crossfire to suddenly doing a push up challenge at the gym, or another moment witnessing one of the player character’s best friend turned mass murderer jumps off a canyon to his death to immediately racing chocobos. The game is a total emotional whiplash and it doesn’t know how to stay with the emotional fallout of something significant and poignant without distracting you with the most random follow up scene. I couldn’t figure out if the Turks (the black-ops within the Shinra organisation that you are rebelling against) were intentionally goofy and made as some kind of weird comic relief, or were actually meant to be taken seriously. That's how bad the tone is in this game, not only was it constantly off kilter, I didn't even know how I was meant to be feeling at moments. The road blocks the game gives you are so contrived and ludicrous. I just watched Cloud pole vault himself onto the roof of a church, but somehow this aircraft propeller is suddenly too much of an obstacle that I’m now on a pointless fetch quest for batteries to power it so it rotates 15 degrees so I can walk past it? What!? And don’t get me started on all the needless mini games with button combinations you will never remember, that are important, but also totally not important. At one point you sneak into Shinra’s guard to participate in a presidential parade but before you join the ranks you practice a series of moves and lines of dialogue - (already aware it won’t hold a candle to the FF6 opera sequence that they are obviously trying to emulate) only to discover none of it really mattered at all. The controls are intolerably janky. The amount of times I loaded into a new screen only to run straight back out was ridiculous to the point it had me saying 'You know what, I didn't even want to go into that room anyway.' It is always obvious you’re walking around a painting with terrible collisions and no discernible knowledge of how your character will actually interact with the map. The graphics are terrible and at odds with the game’s mature themes. Encounters are far more frequent than any Final Fantasy game I’ve played. Combat isn’t fun, it’s just an endurance test of how many times you can spam heal and ethers. Enemies steal not only your items but your gear as well, which I hated. Each character has no real role - it all just comes down to what materia they have equipped and how strong that materia is. I never really felt a sense of character progression or that I was getting stronger. When I see the argument over FF7 vs FF6 I genuinely can’t believe this is what fans deems the superior game. FF6’s themes, atmosphere, tone and gameplay was consistent and served a point. The characters had depth, and were all genuinely likeable, unique and interesting. The story was epic with twist and turns but it was always clear what you were doing, and the game didn’t waste your time when you got to where you needed to go. The tone was always clear and when the game got dark it didn’t minimise the seriousness by leaping to something more upbeat, it stayed with the discomfort. FF6 spoilers:
When the world is destroyed in FF6 the game becomes eerily silent and still, you feel the isolation, despair and sadness. You feel all hope is lost. And the game keeps you in that sense of dread. When Celes jumps to her death it is a shocking moment, and you are brought back to your knees very slowly, restoring hope, finding your friends, and with it a will and purpose to live. The epitome of what the game is about- purpose, love and determination vs absurdist nihilism.
I honestly don’t see why people like this game outside of nostalgia.
Finally able to play this masterpiece
I obviously recommend playing this one first instead of the new FF7 series, so you can get a better understanding of what is going on. I recommend looking for a good guide as well for this one because you might skip some stuff here and there that you can't undo or redo or experience once you move on... Love the game 10000/10! I don't know why I delay playing it!
Peak so good!!! I 100% everything a second time
