My newest go to game for the steam deck. Vibrant and colorful characters in an equally colorful world. Interlacing attacks and using animation locks for character switch combos is beyond satisfying. It's a perfect pick up and play game if you have 20 minutes to go knock out a quest then come back to it later without feeling rushed or FOMO. I'm sure if I had the time I could sink hours in a single session. So far I have only a few hours played but I wanted to promote a non gacha gacha that's worth a one time payment of 30$
Dragon's Sword features beautiful scenery and stunning character designs, but it's a real shame that there's no photo mode, no character expressions or emotes, and not even a walking option. I really hope these features will be added soon. The game boasts top-tier visual art, and adding these interactive details and a camera system would make the experience complete!

I have spent 12 hours playing DragonSword: Awakening so far, and I genuinely want to recommend this title to every fan of action‑oriented anime‑style RPGs. This game is developed by the original producer behind Dragon Nest, and you can absolutely feel that classic action‑game DNA carried over into this project. The tag‑team switching combat is the biggest highlight for me. Swapping between different characters mid‑fight feels incredibly smooth and satisfying. Every hero brings unique movesets, skills and playstyles, so experimenting with different team builds never gets boring. Boss fights are dynamic and challenging, requiring you to master dodge timings, skill rotations and character synergy instead of just mindlessly mashing buttons. The visual effects for abilities look fantastic, and the anime‑styled open world offers plenty of areas to explore, secret spots to uncover, and side content to sink your time into. What I really appreciate is that there are no gacha or pay‑to‑win mechanics. All characters, upgrades and gears are earned purely through gameplay. You can freely enjoy character progression without worrying about predatory microtransactions. Performance on PC is also solid for me; I rarely ran into frame drops or game‑breaking bugs during my playthrough. The story is engaging enough to keep me invested, and the large playable character roster gives you tons of options to build your favourite party. I noticed IGN gave this game a 7 out of 10, and personally I think that score is a bit low. Sure, it is not a perfect game — it still carries over some leftover MMO‑era design traces, and a few UI parts could use more polish. But those minor flaws do not overshadow how fun the core gameplay loop is. For players who love fast‑paced team‑based action and character‑driven RPG experiences, this game delivers far more than what a 7‑score suggests. If you loved Dragon Nest back in the day, or you are searching for a high‑quality premium anime action RPG without gacha nonsense, you should definitely give DragonSword: Awakening a try. It is well worth your money and time.
I have over 20 hours by now playing this game, and knowing the story behind the development setbacks that the developers suffered through, I have to say, this game is a pleasant surprise and money well spent. Don't get me wrong, if you have played open-world gachas before like Genshin and Wuthering Waves, you'll clearly see that this is indeed a 1.0 patch version. Story animations are limited, side-activities are your normal mmo fetch quests, some movements and targeting a specific enemy still need refinement, and yet, I am having some good fun. The characters are charming enough, the combat and its combo synergies can be fun to discover on your own, and free from gacha banners and tiresome trends of limited time characters, you can unlock your team at your own pace, farm for materials at your own pace, and unlock almost everything at your whim. I wasn't bothered paying for some costume DLC because it was a really pleasant surprise playing a gacha game without the gacha. Still, there are some issues apart from what I have mentioned. Without spoilers, there is a story menu section where you can see your progress and it will clearly end the game on a cliffhanger because of the development issues I mentioned, so the story will be inconclusive, the tower of trials need more than 3 towers because it focuses more on three types of combo damage at the time of writing this review, and if they add new regions to expand the story, more bosses are needed with a more gamey timer instead of waiting for 24 hours for them to respawn. If you can, buy at full price. If you have paid for gacha before, 30 dollars is a generous asking price for what is there, and if the developers fulfill their promise to add more to the game and complete the story for free, this game can become a little hidden gem in your collection. As it is now, I give it a 7.5. You will find a good casual time if you like grinding and exploring maps.
