Darkout

This game had potential, but is unfinished and was abandoned in 2013. It should not be available for sale. I regret supporting it and won't purchase anything from them or their publisher again.

Unfinished game.

Reviewing this in 2025, having played Darkout back in EA before it was "released." Using the Early Access tags for my library the other day, it popped up and I immediately got nostalgic. This game was a lot of fun. The lighting aspect, sci-fi theme (which was rare), tech tree and other kind of new ideas on progression, were the things I liked the most. It fit well into the genre and showed a bunch of promise. Unfortunately it's unfinished, and you can't complete the main questline (which wasn't a whole lot but had you collecting data logs and progressing), there are bugs, and just, well, there was never "more" of it like there are with games like these. It has a few couple biomes, a boss type, decently fleshed tech and building, some interesting ideas... but it kind of all just ends. Why am I rating this as a recommend? Because I think it's still worth the $10 if you watch the videos and take a look at the screenshots, like these types of games, and think it looks like something you would like, there's still a lot to have fun with here.

Not a bad game however it is poorly optimized and drops frames a lot. I also believe the game is unfinished with incomplete animations. Would have been a recommend if finished and polished.

Unfinished game with unique concept, great atmosphere, soundtrack and complex crafting system. That rare case of potential gem, that if could've been finished and polished, would outmatch both Terraria and Starbound combined. But unfortunately, that won't happen. Dev studio is dead, sells probably went not very good, after all almost from the beginning of the project, it was clear that devs won't be able to get things done as they've planned. So RIP "Darkout"...
