Prices
The United States storefront in every case, so this compares stores and not countries.
Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Every market we collect.
Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 7.71/day in the week to Aug 19 → 13.29/day in the week after.
Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

New Game Mode - Kingdoms - Now Playable!
“This squalid Kingdom, these corrupted lands, they are yours now, and you are bound to them.”
Kingdoms is an entirely new stand-alone strategic campaign game mode available to play now in Darkest Dungeon II.

Featuring a completely reimagined game structure, Kingdoms is a parallel game experience to the Confessions core game mode. You will be challenged to defend a crumbling realm against incursion from all new enemy factions.
Manage a persistent roster of heroes, gather resources, and pursue an epic questline in order to track down and defeat the source of evil before all is lost.

Progress in each game mode is tracked separately, and you can freely switch back and forth between active sessions of either.
Kingdoms is being released in thematic modules, each focusing on a different enemy threat. All three adventure modules - “Hunger of the Beast Clan”, “Secrets of the Coven”, and “Curse of the Court”- are available now!

Gather your courage and ride out into the chaos of a world undone.
Four heroes and a stagecoach are all that stand between darkness and salvation.

Reviews
It's good; much, much better than the mixed reviews would indicate - give it a chance. It is basically Darkest Dungeon, but roguelite, which may feel jarring at first, but I have come to like it equally well.
Is it different from the first, yes. Is that a bad thing? No. It is a very fun game if you have the patience to learn its systems and adapting to the difficulty of what ever the game gives you.

I enjoyed it a lot more than the first one. If the real loss of progress in DD1 when losing your heroes stressed you out too much, try this one instead. It's more of a typical roguelite so even when your party wipes you still get points to try again with stronger heroes, better items and more abilities and subclasses :)
even more pain - count me in

the academic is nowhere near as interesting (to me personally) as a narrator compared to the ancestor, but it's certainly a really good game. I have 21 hours on steam rn, but on epic games (when the game was only accessible there) I have about 200 hours. the game aged like wine. it was alright, then good, then very good. but it's also not for everyone, and I found the long term planning and prep between expeditions to be quite a big obstacle for me to enjoy it as much as I can honestly claim I do.

The game is very fun, with amazing art direction and gameplay. There are some issues that I would like to mention, but that doesn't mean the game is not enjoyable. I still recommend this game, but I have some notes: Quality of Life: There are many aspects of the basic game loop that are tedious and time consuming. This makes the basic rogue-like gameplay loop of dying and restarting hard to continue for a long time. For example, many of the animations and cutscenes cannot be skipped. The intro cutscene for the confessions, the ending page detailing the itemized list of all the candles you earned, etc, all of which cannot be skipped. Also, many actions require a button to be held down. While not a huge time waster, it still adds time to each run. The roads between nodes also stretch on for longer than needed, making runs take much longer. With most other rogue-likes, after losing a run, you can jump into a new run almost immediately. For Darkest Dungeon 2, the extra fluff can make doing multiple runs in a row feel tedious and make dying more frustrating. Shortening the distance between nodes, giving an option to just press a button to do certain actions and allowing an option to skip cutscenes would make runs move smoother and make dying less frustrating since you can start again faster. Grinding: The grind from the start of a new game can feel very frustrating, since many of the heroes' most interesting/best playstyles are locked behind upgrades. Personally, most of the grind feels rewarding to go through as it doesn't feel like I'm doing anything extra to upgrade, since the resource used to upgrade is something you get for doing runs. The only pain point I have, and I would like to mention, is the shrine of reflections. These are special nodes in the regions which allows you to unlock new skills for your heroes. While you only need to go to this location in the early game, since unlocking skills is permanent, the early game often involves you changing course in order to drop by shrines of reflection. This often impacts gameplay since the path to get to the shrine might be more difficult or less optimal. You may miss out on a store node, or a hospital, or extra battles for resources. Choosing to divert your course to a shrine may end up costing you a run. One way to make this less tedious, albeit a bit boring and uninspired, is to just have hero skills locked behind candles, meaning that you can complete the run without having to divert course to a shrine if you wish to unlock skills that may be more fun for a hero. Kingdoms: I have not really clicked with the kingdoms game mode. It takes aspects from DD1 and DD2, but personally feels clunky and tedious. Having more things to upgrade beyond just heroes is something I liked about the first game. My main issue with Kingdoms is the fact that each individual inn needs to be upgraded. There may be more resources rewarded in that game mode that I didn't get to, but the small amount of inn-upgrade resource awarded early game just made the early game feel tedious to get through. Having inn upgrades apply to all inns, rewarding more inn-upgrade material, or making inn upgrades cost less would help make the early game feel less tedious.
