Fantastic game. The first 6-8 hours are really tough going but it gets easier after that.

They did not fix any of the clunkyness. 90% of my deaths are just my controls not working when I want them to. The mechanics are not as bad as everyone claims, and you can disable pvp for a price so you don't get sweats constantly invading you on your first run. The controls and hitboxes are just dated and bad. I had to abandon the lock on system because it won't hit any enemy. Some controls don't respond at all, and its always in the most critical time. I'll put way too much distance between me and an enemy to heal, and then the estus button just wont work until its way too late. This issue also transfers to the jump button. Normally this would not matter, but they filled this game with platforming mechanics. If you want to play, get used to running around for 40+ min making progress only to have to restart it, because the jump button didn't register again.
Peak Souls 2. After playing it I realized that many of the criticisms it receives are exaggerated. It has a few flaws, some hitboxes can look weird, some fights rely more on the quantity of enemies than the quality but beyond that, it remains a fantastic experience. If you're looking for the perfectly interconnected level design of the first Dark Souls or the faster gameplay of Dark Souls III you might be disappointed but if you give it a chance, you'll find a huge game with its own identity.

I lost my save file but it's still a great game. I love majula so much and hate everything else. ♥♥♥♥ this game
This game is actually really good. I, too, bought into the Dark Souls 2 slander but after actually playing it its super fun. Is it perfect? No, there are some rough edges you have to deal with, but in other moments the game is incredible. The combat might be a thing to get used to coming from other Souls games since its way more slow paced, but once it clicks it really clicks. There are many bosses, and while not all of them are incredibly high quality, I found almost all of them still fun to fight. I also loved the general atmosphere of the game, its way more melancholic and resigned compared to Dark Souls 1 or 3. So yeah, Dark Souls 2 is actually really great to play, does not have to hide itself from the other Fromsoft games.
I love this game, helped me through depression and stress. i'm in a good place in life now, a loving wife, and adorable baby and a decent career.
