A retro-inspired 2D Action RPG set in the distant future. CrossCode combines 16-bit SNES-style graphics with butter-smooth physics, a fast-paced combat system, and engaging puzzle mechanics, served with a gripping sci-fi story.

Mi amigo me dijo que era clave y no mentía.
I originally played in 2018, and since the DLC released I wanted to give the game another shot with a replay. Finishing the game again took around 60 hours, with the DLC installed. It was just as charming and fun as back in 2018, and the DLC addressed my issues with the end of the game mostly. It felt somewhat unfinished back then, but that's fixed. I'd say it's actually pretty mandatory which can be a downside. Overall a great and unique game with its setting being inside a MMORPG that is taking place in the real world with augmented reality elements. The cast of characters and storyline is great, the game demands a lot of skill from the player in terms of puzzles and the combat encounters are super varied and stay interesting through the entire runtime of the game. Side content can be pretty filler-y and is derived from actual MMO quests, but they usually try to put a fun gimmick or twist on them. Lea is one of the best main characters of any game I played and she has so much personality and ways to express herself despite being mute. Highly recommending this for anyone who likes action combat games with puzzles inside game dungeons.

I actually wanted to like the game, but I just can't get through the slog in-between. The concept for the game is fine and the trading system is kinda unique. But the enemies genuinely suck and the dungeons are long, so much so that I was getting tired trying to finish. Honestly the game is just kinda...not my thing for the most part.
Good combat, amazing amazing puzzles.
Highly reccomend! So much love was put into this game and you can tell. I can't wait to finish it and I will enjoy every hour of it. I didn't play many action RPGs before this so it's one of my first impressions and it's really getting me into the genre, the gameplay is incredibly fluid and satisfying to play. The item collection and upgrading mechanics are amazing, and so is the streak mechanic. Every aspect of the game was very clearly thought up and tested, and it meshes together so well. The music (OST) is just masterpiece after masterpiece. The main negatives are that the colors are washed out on some devices (steam deck OLED for me). I found a fix on one of these forums, but it's basically just turning off HDR with a command, then running it in proton in the settings. Additionally, a big chunk of the story/characters are really corny but I grew to like them. The main culprit of this is Emilie, and it's mostly because the french words added in intermittently at the beginning and ends of her sentences seem really unnatural to me, and it becomes glaringly obvious as a french speaker. I tried to switch the game's language to french in hopes that it would stop somehow, but lo and behold, there was no french option lol. Overall, these problems are either easily fixable or things that I have grown to accept as quirks. I hope the rest of u will enjoy the game as much as I am rn : D
Amazing game, it looks like a old school rpg with the stereotypical blocky movement but honestly has one of the best control feel of any rpg ive played. The main contentious point in this game is definitely the amount of puzzles being a little too much but honestly all of the puzzles are created with testing your creative thinking instead of the classic developer placing blocks of puzzles together and calling it a "new area" or "trial" the enviroments are amazingly detailed and feel like a actual MMO and I LOVE how the areas have loads of side quests and special areas fetch quests that all overlap so you can get multiple quests done together. Also love how it is pretty difficult and the rival duels are really interesting, actually feels like a real player you're 1v1ing W game
Randomizing and clearing my backlog- 42/343 I’m gonna give this a thumbs up solely for the reason that I see this game has a lot of heart and can be a great game if you like this kind of game. For me, it’s just not it. I got frustrated 2 hours in. The combat is frustrating, I hate the puzzles, but again, that’s just me.
