Black Mesa

Half-Life 1’in ruhunu mükemmel şekilde yeniden yaşatan efsane bir remake. Benim oyun oynama serüvenim de bu oyunun atasıyla, yani Half-Life ile başladı. O yüzden yeri bende çok ayrı. Hem nostalji yaşattı hem de modern haliyle tekrar keyif verdi. Half-Life’a saygıyla… Black Mesa’yı kesinlikle tavsiye ediyorum.

Black Mesa is a 2020 fan-made remake of the classic game Half-Life, created with such care that Valve itself endorsed the project and released it as the official remake of the original. From the very first hour, it is easy to understand why. Half-Life is an old game that was developed primarily to showcase the power of its engine, resulting in an experience that is fun but undeniably clunky. Its excellent story earned a cult following, inspiring countless mods over the years. Black Mesa, however, was created with indisputable talent for game development. Crowbar Collective improved every aspect of the original, including the graphics, sound design, dialogue, movement, gunplay, options, and overall polish. In my opinion, they also addressed the original game's worst flaw: its ridiculous fall damage. In Black Mesa, gravity is far more forgiving, so you are no longer constantly losing health from jumping over a crate or stepping off a ladder with the wrong foot. Every area of the Black Mesa research facility is impressive. Nearly every room is filled with meticulously placed props and scientific equipment that spark your imagination and make you wonder about their purpose. Even better, many of these objects can actually be interacted with, allowing you to manipulate the environment in small but satisfying ways. On the other hand, Xen received the most significant overhaul. Crowbar Collective took considerable creative liberties when recreating the oddworldly chapters, greatly expanding its scale and making it feel far more substantial than in the original game. As a result, Black Mesa is noticeably longer than Half-Life. This decision may prove controversial, however, as it represents the greatest departure from the source material. Some of the added action sequences do feel out of place, and may overstay their welcome. Black Mesa is a rare example of a fan project born from genuine passion, resulting in an exceptional game that many studios would struggle to match. That being said, some achievements are an absolute nightmare to complete. This is an outstanding game that every Half-Life fan should experience, and it is strong enough to stand on its own merits.
