I refunded. I agree with the vibe of all the other reviewers saying they ultimately refunded but that the game has good qualities. It is by no means a terrible game, but not worth the full asking price in its current state. I want to specifically call out that there are no English dubs. I appreciate being able to choose the language of spoken dialogue in a game, but I cannot focus on subtitles while trying to acclimate to a new game. That was a big factor in deciding to refund. Edit: Welp, I assumed there weren't any English dubs due to another reviewer also complaining about there being no English dubs. Don't be like me! I still strongly recommend waiting for a sale.
I'm honestly really unsure how to feel about Beast of Reincarnation. IM going to keep playing it, but I don't think i can really recommend it, if that makes sense? Game Freak is best known for Pokemon. So color me surprised when they announced a Soulslike action RPG . and it turns out my skepticism was correct. Beast of Reincarnation feels... off. it feels like doing something without remembering WHY you're doing it. it feels like fighting everything you come across because that's the instinct games have instilled in you. the story is... very vague in a not particularly appealing way. it starts very clearly towards the end or at least middle and then rewinds back to see how you got here. you get sparse flashbacks that i believe are supposed to explain why you're doing what you are, but they just... don't? like they raise why more questions than they answer. and not in a 'oooh mysterious!' way and more in a 'wait what? that doesn't make sense.' way. 3 hours in and i have no idea why the protag is doing anything she is. the protagonist.... exists? I don't really have much to say because she doesn't feel like a character as much as a vehicle for you to move between fights. I say 'move between fights' and not 'explore' because there is really not much worthwhile off the beaten path. I don't normally complain about graphics because I put far more value on style and performance but uh... Beast of Reincarnation looks ROUGH. it was clearly designed with the PS5 in mind because no matter how I tweak the settings, I cant get it looking as good as it does in the trailer. there's this weird pixel-y grain over everything and considering your companion is a giant wolf, the fur/hair textures look so dated its laughable. I saw some people complain that the combat is repetitive and while I personally didn't have that complaint, I see the reasoning. I'm biased though because I love samurai games and films so give me a decent combat engine and a katana and I'm happy. At its core, Beast of Reincarnation feels like its missing something. the special sauce, the thing to bring all these cogs together and mesh. and its not there. and you cant figure out what it is. and maybe that's the worst part. Beast of Reincarnation is one of the ARPGs of all time and I'm gonna keep going to see if there is SOMETHING worth the time here, but for now i say wait unless its premise is REALLY up your alley.

2026 and no ultrawide support... What a piece of crap game.
sekiro + nier + stellar blade sounded too good to be true and indeed it was not true.. Really wish if they took a bit more time to polish everything It isn't the worst but, like I believe the genre of these game isn't something that has the most "demand" so it should've been treated with a little more care to have something really special about it. Starting to believe nier atmosphere will never be truly replicable. Will prob try again down the line but.. can't rec for full price atp
Emma [strike]bbcita bblin[/strike].
I wanted this game to be good. The setting is basically made for me. I wanted this to be like some of my favorite games of all time Nier:Automata and Stellar Blade. What I got instead was a worse version of Sekiro. I think reading the reviews for this game definitely changed how critical I viewed it but I still tried to give it a fair chance.
Combat:
It is basically a worse version of Sekiro combat with a few more bits and bobs. You either love Sekiro combat or you hate it. I unfortunately do not like it. This game gives you some abilities that don’t really do much for you. The skill you get at the start is forgettable. I’m pretty sure it also depletes your stamina bar which you need to block so there is a reason to just not use it. You can get a slow down ability that also uses your stamina bar. This at the start of the game is not worth using. All it does is give you a few second opening after which it just stops and you get caught off guard most of the time. I found it made fights more difficult than not using it. It is a weird choice for a game that should be all about rhythm. Your Wolf companion has abilities that are oddly costly to use. It is a weird design choice. You have to perfect parry to get the resource you need to use the abilities, then you have to hit a quick time event to do extra damage and after that the ability you used goes on cooldown. Enemies have weaknesses to those abilities but you can only use it once in a fight so it really doesn’t matter that much. As some other reviews already mentioned. Most if not all enemies I faced had 1 attack pattern that had about 1-4 attacks. That’s it. Maybe this changes in the later game. This does not make the combat easy though. At least if you face enemies head on. You can do the Sekiro thing and sneak attack enemies to trivialize some fights. As in Sekiro small enemies are killed immediately while elites loose a health bar. If you do have to fight enemies head on and get hit it is incredibly hard to recover. Your dodge does not really create a lot of distance and does also not seem to have any Iframes. The healing animation takes a long time and sometimes doesn’t even go of. Mostly I got just hit when I tried to create distance and use them making it a bit useless. The point of sneak attacks brings me to my next point,
the tutorials:
I had no idea which button I even had to press to sneak. I didn’t even think about sneaking in the first place I just remembered it after reading some reviews that it makes sense to have in a Sekiro game. There is no tutorial for it. I am almost certain that if you have never played Sekiro you will never know that this even exists. I also found out that you can give your wolf companion food because I accidentally pressed down on the D-Pad. It gives you some kind of Buff but I don’t really know what it does.
The Story: (minor spoiler to one part of the Quest about an hour into the game)
Probably the most disappointing thing about this whole game. For the 2 hours I’ve played there is no rhyme or reason to what you are doing. I get that this is a game that tries to be mysterious and some parts of the story will only make sense later on. I don’t understand however why I needed to go into an
“undercity” which consisted of literally one house. Kill 6 enemies to magically open a door just to go back out the way I came.
I might be able to stomach the combat system for a good story but not for something like this. I don’t want to go into details but the rest of what I played didn’t make any more sense than this.
Exploration:
In the first hour I looked around the map a tiny bit. I found one elite enemy I killed. As reward I got a chest that didn’t really give me anything good. I looked for other landmarks I could check out but quickly found that there is not a lot to see. No obvious landmarks that would catch your attention and the few things I explored had minimal reward so I just didn’t really bother to look further.
Graphics:
The game set my graphics to Medium with FSR1 in performance. A little odd for a new game but I figured some games just don’t really register my graphics card correctly. I put in FSR3 on high quality with high graphics settings, raytracing off. The game ran fine, which surprised me because this is an Unreal Enigne 5 game. The fidelity was not amazing but passable and on my chosen graphic settings it also wasn’t that blurry anymore. Unfortunately though the game has a Film grain that you can’t switch off. I also ran into some lighting glitches from water reflections probably because no one really checks how these games work without raytracing anymore. It had my screen flashing from time to time but this will probably be fixed at some point.
Conclusion:
I really can’t recommend this game at least not for the price. I also can’t recommend this to people who love Nier or Stellar blade. This game tries to be like those but it just does not get there. Maybe someone who enjoyed Sekiro would enjoy this game as well I really don’t know. In theory this game has everything to make it successful but in practice it just falls short of everything it could have been. Which frustrates me because we don't get this kind of setting often.
Once again a game negatively bombed mostly by people with less than an hour of playtime like it's some kind of new trend. If you "got bored to death with the combat within 7 minutes of gameplay" - while half of it was probably in settings and the other half watching a cutscene then maybe you shouldn't waste any more money on games at all, just find yourself a different hobby. And if you haven't tried yet and looking for some opinions, the game is fine, just try it yourself!
