About
Several hundred years ago, a cataclysmic catastrophe nearly ripped your galaxy apart - an impassable ring of torn hyperspace fabric appeared in the center of the galaxy, which normal hyperspace engines can’t overcome.
Since this Event nobody has managed to get near the central regions of the galaxy. All you know is that the Event also spawned multiple untraversable hyperspace rifts throughout the entire galaxy and that a strange race of aliens, the Xsotan, has appeared in the center. It looks like these aliens have found a way to cross over the torn hyperspace fabric, but so far nobody has managed to establish contact with them.
There are also rumors about a strange new metal called ‘Avorion’ which has appeared in the center of the galaxy around the same time as the Xsotan have arrived. Apparently, the aliens use this material to build their ships.
Start out as a nobody at the edge and work your way to the center of a galaxy that gets more dangerous, but also more rewarding the closer you get to its core. Avorion takes sandbox aspects from games like X or Freelancer, throws in co-op multiplayer and lets you build your own ships. It features ships made of freely scalable blocks that can be procedurally generated and that break into pieces where they're hit in space fights.
Equip your ship with chainguns, lasers and other weaponry to take on your enemies and enjoy the sight of completely destructible ships breaking at the exact points where you hit them.
Defend your allies from pirates, hunt down enemies for coin or even participate in wars between entire factions. Once you’re victorious, collect loot from defeated foes which you can use to upgrade your ship: new turrets with special abilities like autofire or repair beams, or system upgrades that allow you to install even more weapons. Build hangars and command squads of fighters in your battles or destroy enemy freighters to steal their cargo.
Fly through beautiful nebulas and dense asteroid fields in search of hidden treasures and meet the many factions that populate and control their portion of the galaxy. Each faction has its own characteristics, such as peaceful, intelligent or aggressive, and its ships and stations have a distinct look.
Explore the galaxy at your own pace to find valuable goods in old ship wrecks, undiscovered asteroid fields rich in resources, gigantic asteroids which you can claim for yourself, or clues about what happened during the Event a few centuries back.
There are no limits to the size or complexity of your ship besides your resources. But there is also a creative mode where you can just build to your heart’s content. You're not bound to the standard voxel style and while building an awesome ship in Avorion you won't get lost in lots and lots of micro-management.
You can focus on building a great-looking ship, without having to worry about making it work. But always keep an eye on your ship’s maneuverability and energy requirements. Adjust your ship perfectly to its operational purpose: everything from light and agile explorers to heavily armored battleships with strong shields.
And why build only one ship? Hire captains to fly your ships for you, manage your crews, weapons, hangars and fighters and build your own fleet of spaceships!
Extend your ship with a cargo bay, find profitable deals and haul over a hundred trading goods across the galaxy to make a profit and buy your way up the food chain. Constructing a fleet of specialized transport ships with lots of cargo space will help you build up a trading corporation.
Extend your influence in the galaxy by founding asteroid mines and factories that attract NPC traders who will buy and sell their goods at your establishments. Install trading systems that detect trading routes and supply and demand over multiple sectors and become the richest commander in the galaxy!
Or maybe you're sick of being the good guy? Just raid freighters, smuggle illegal goods, or become a headhunter.
You don't have to face all of these challenges alone! Avorion features co-op multiplayer, so team up with your friends to build stations together and destroy pirates and enemy factions!
Everybody needs a copilot, and you can fly ships together, with one of you doing the steering and the other one taking care of firing weapons. Work with each other to extend your influence in the galaxy and build your own empire.
Or, you know, blow your friends apart. It's a sandbox, you can do whatever you want!
In Avorion you choose your personal playstyle. Haul cargo, find profitable trading routes and found factories. Or maybe you're sick of being the good guy? Build your own battleship, equip it with powerful weaponry and blow away your enemies. Be the aggressor that starts wars with entire factions, raid freighters, smuggle illegal goods and scavenge old wreckages. Find your way to the center of a galaxy that gets more hostile, but also more rewarding the closer you get to its core.

This is one of the best games I've ever played. I wish I'd found it sooner! Also one of the best truly open-world game engines I've experienced. Factions are actively at war behind the scenes, while you play. You can explore, fight, harvest, trade, run a space corporation, build a fleet from scratch, and grow an empire, or simply be a pirate with some escort ships and attack whoever you want. Diplomacy matters. The game gives several options to advance and doesn't require you to grind for hours. Co-op is so much fun, but solo is great too. I really appreciate the developers for this game. They put a ton of thought into so many mechanics that allow you to customize ships, choose thousands of weapons and weapon variants, modify weapon schematics, loot endlessly, and enemies are fun and get harder in harder areas. Cons: The game had a steep learning curve. That said, its a game where you keep getting to experience ah-ha moments of cool features as you discover them. You can grind early on and build an unstoppable ship, or you could do like I did and skip the grind venture boldly into challenging combat to gain better loot... or die trying. This is such a great open world space exploration game where you get to do what you want. Highly Recommend!

It doesn't have modelled or simulated trade. It's mostly static and completely predictable. Why do much of the game is dedicated to trade makes no sense, when there isn't simulation for it. Setting up trading, manufacturing, mining; it's all an arduous, expensive task that results in a trickle of income while you get to go off with your fleet and play pew pew towards the centre of the galaxy where the narrative leads. While I can download a ship design and plop it into my game, there is no such thing for a working trade empire. Which leaves this part of the game play absurdly unbalanced. Overall it's a good game, with great potential, but I cannot recommend it to others.
I've played this game on and off since beta and it's been a staple in my library if I need something relaxing and slow paced to play. This game does a lot of things right, but the story is garbage.. XD Luckily the game makes up for it by simply being really really fun to play, especially with friends. 8/10 game, here's to another thousand hours! PS: Please.. for the love of god.. Make operation Exodus less buggy.. >.< I always cheat the last beacon in, it's not worth it.
Avorion
Rating: 6/10 — A Solid "Jack of All Trades"
The Short Version
Verdict: This is a solid space sim that stays "slightly above average" across the board. While it’s fun to build a massive fleet and design custom ships, the game lacks a "killer feature" to make it stand out. It’s an enjoyable experience, but not quite a "must-play."

[th]Category[/th] [th]Rating[/th]

Creative Freedom Solid Ship Building

Progression Very Linear

Experience Slow Start / Mid-Tier

The Good

Creative Freedom: The ship design system is easily the highlight. It allows for some really cool builds using procedurally scalable blocks.
Progression: It’s genuinely satisfying to grow from a single, tiny ship into a commander of a massive, multi-ship fleet.
Gameplay Variety: There are plenty of jobs and playstyles to choose from, whether you want to mine, trade, or go to war.

The Mid

Linear Progression: The core loop is predictable—stronger ships lead to stronger materials, which lead back to stronger ships. As you move toward the galaxy's center, materials and enemies just scale up in strength.
Jack of All Trades: The game is "slightly above average" in almost every category, but it doesn't truly excel or innovate in any one area to differentiate itself from other space sims.

The Bad

Rough Start: The beginning is very slow and can be confusing. It takes a significant amount of time before the mechanics finally click and the game starts to feel fun.
Lack of Spark: Because it tries to do a little of everything, it ends up lacking a unique identity or a "hook" that makes it unforgettable.

Final Thoughts
Who is this for? Players who enjoy the "Space Minecraft" vibe and want a sandbox to build in, provided they don't mind a very linear, slow-burn progression. Conclusion: A fair 6/10. It’s a fun way to spend some time, but it doesn't do anything outstanding enough to be a top-tier recommendation.
Shockingly good open world sandbox. If you like Bannerlord/Warband, SPAZ or even EVE Online, this should scratch a similar itch, I'm late to the party but hoping they are still making more DLC so I can throw some more money at them.
Life is not long enough for this game. The building sucks so much! If you think you're a good builder and have ambition, this game will break you. You can not build anything round or anything that goes diagonally, like the metal bars of a windshield or wings of a classic car. If you want to build a classic car, this game is not for you. it's fun until you reach the middle of the game. Get a good radar and blue armor, find the secret boss called A.I. or something, beat it and that's the game. no point playing more than 100h. The game forces you to upscale and when you resize your ship, the thrusters you had no longer do enough. when you upscale your ship, it may go from size 10.0 -> 74.99 and make building symmetrically impossible after that. in the endgame you need to build a box with all the necessary tech like cargo and battery etc. and then put thin layered meteorite and armor sheets over the box so that enemies won't incapacitate you and kill you under 10 sec. The trade routes and stuff are very confusing, and the game is very grindy. fun for a while, but you can't build anything beautiful, only blocks of cheese or very traditional spaceships.
Steam told me to review a game for a badge and I like this game and you should play it because it is fun
If you want to be able to make a custom ship in space this is a good game to try out. Personally its just not for me. Once you get past the idea of making ships everything else is just mediocre in the game. Awesome idea years ago. Now days I feel their is better games on the idea of custom ship building. 3/10 - Pick it up on sale and enjoy with some friends or by yourself.
It's a well made game. No bugs or crashes after 90 hours of play. I enjoyed the early game, mining, designing and building ships, progressing on my journey towards the centre of the galaxy. But then I discovered (without giving too much away) that I couldn't progress any further without completing some missions that involve heavy combat. The game doesn't explain this to you. I had to research it online. And I wanted to play a peaceful game where combat was limited to a defensive role. I guess I could do that if I stayed in the outer reaches of the galaxy, but there wouldn't be any progression apart from increasing my stock of ore and funds in my account. So be warned - you are forced to complete certain combat orientated missions to complete the game.
