Not at all "casual player" friendly. I've played a few fighting games over the years (Injustice, Mortal Kombat X, Super Smash Bros), but this game is kicking my ass. Story Mode chapter 1 feels impossible, as I cannot get more than a few hits on Katara (and more than once she won the fight without me scoring a single hit). The tutorials are too complex, covering combos and expecting you to have perfect timing. Graphics look amazing, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was it soul crushing to play. If you want to attract casual fans, consider the following: 1) adjust the difficulty and/or add difficulty settings for the story/AI characters 2) make a "How to Play" tutorial that is more than just a "settinga menu" explaining button combos! Teach us the basics of blocking! Explain the difference between attacks A, B, and C! Build up to showing us chaining attacks/combos (e.g. start with "here's how to block followed by a basic attack" and work up to "here's how to air attack, dash, reach attack, dash, grab, throw, dash, launch attack, and chain A, B, and C to finish them off!") Like I loved Injustice: Gods Among Us, especially because it had tutorials that held my noob hand and taught me the *basic* basics like blocking and which attack did what

Perfect gameplay. Most fun i've had with a fighting game in like half a decade. I want to main every single character and i'm excited to lab every interaction, i love this game. The art and hand draawn animations are superb. the game has insane attention to detail and even includes concept art from the original show. Story mode is goofy but fun.
Do i like this game? YES Is the PVP fun? YES! i love the animation and art as well its all beautifully drawn but what the ♥♥♥♥ where they thinking with these CPU's?! especially in story mode, im sorry but its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that the FIRST level took more than a hour to beat because katara suddenly took 10 grams of fent and decided shes ulta instinct goku, same with 1-2 vs kyoshi shes cracked out of her ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mind!? can cancel all your moves REPEATEDLY GRABBED ME OUT OF MINE, and they both have access to full energy and flow bars while you only get 1 energy and weak little puffs of air
Felt a bit weary considering the negative reviews. It does seem like the launch was rushed, but in only three hours of playing this has been the most fun experience I've had in a while when it comes to playing a new game. The gameplay is super fluid and at it's core it's an amazing experience. The characters and bending are drawn so beautifully and the game really captures the push and pull of seriousness and silliness that we know from ATLA. Aang beats the ♥♥♥♥ out of you in one moment, and then celebrates by using his spinny marble magic trick in the next. Most issues which people have been complaining about (keyboard mapping, ranked mode, lobbies that hold more than 2 players) have been recognized as top priority by the developers and will probably be added pretty soon. Some of the reviews also made me believe you can't play this with a controller, but steam input's got your back. You don't need a fightstick to play this. I'm using an old nintendo switch pro controller. If you have friends to play with and mostly pick this up as a casual game to play because you love the series, it's an easy recommendation. If you really wanna go all out it's definitely possible, but probably a better experience in coming updates. The only negative I have outside of the ones already mentioned is that the story mode uses a random piece of TLOK lore to sloppily justify the canon of having multiple avatars / characters from different timelines alive and fighting eachother, making the story mode feel like an afterthought.
I'm having a lot of fun. Happy to see a fighting game that isn't completely dumbing itself down for casuals who won't play the game for more than a week regardless of how easy they make it. There is plenty of sauce to be found in this game and I look forward to discovering it myself. My issue is not with the game itself, but that it's clear the publishers ♥♥♥♥♥♥ a lot of things up and likely forced this to release prematurely. This is a *very* sloppy release. There are lots of minor things that have been standard in the genre that are missing, this game has easily the worst combo trial mode I've ever experienced and the whole ranked situation is legitimate false advertising. I will happily make this a positive review when the features promised in the advertising are in the game working as intended, but as a consumer, we can't reward this.
I have only played for like... 14-20 minutes, and I will be honest: I can't recommend this game. Not in the state that it's in, at least. I am asking for a refund as we speak because I couldn't... vibe with the game. I do have some pros and cons, but if you don't wanna read it, I have a tl;dr about my thoughts on the game overall. tl;dr: If you are a veteran of the fighting genre and/or were one of the beta testers who enjoyed this a lot, this game is DEFINITELY for you! Enjoy the game and show the world how far you'll go with whoever you main! But if you are looking to play this because ATLA and/or you saw this on YouTube (or TikTok... or wherever you watched clips of this game) and are interested despite never playing (or barely playing) fighting games, then either wait for a deep discount or just don't get it at all. This is NOT a beginner-friendly fighting game, but one aimed for the veterans who do this in their sleep. For those who DO want to know the pros and cons, in my opinion, here's my pros and cons down below. Pros: * It's beautiful, I will NOT take that away from it. * The combos do go crazy good when you figure out what the combos do and how to achieve them. * From bits and pieces that I heard of the music, it is lovely! Cons: * If you want to do a tutorial, good frickin' luck memorizing what happened. A breakdown will help and they DO have that on hand.. HOWEVER, it's still not friendly to those playing the game for the very first time. * The Story Mode is... bland. Like, VERY bland. Yes, you get some stories here and there, but then after a match, you get SMACKED right into a fight without any context. Just "Here ya go, you're fighting Ozai!" or even "Beat Korra? Do it again with Nightmare Korra." without any warning or story explaining what's happening and how we even got there. * The difficulty spikes in the gameplay. Veteran players who partake in fighting games, this is RIGHT up your alley! Those who are first-timers or barely play fighting games like me, prepare to spam. Some of the fights are pretty easy once learning what does what... then comes a CPU that is ALWAYS on the move even before the round starts, which... I know that's what they do, but I mean this in a "they move close just so they can start smacking you into oblivion the moment Toph says "FIGHT!" movement. Again, veteran players of fighting games, THIS ONE is definitely for you.
Game has soul in it and its not some slop fighting game. Even on my low end laptop the game runs great
