Simply said, I freakin' love this game. The 100% achievements that I got for this game proves just that. Coming from the Ryza trilogy, I find that the synthesis grid mechanic in this game is a lot more in-depth and not as trivial as Ryza's synthesis loop mechanic. You are encouraged to experiment with different traits in order to get a much stronger trait, unlike in Ryza where you can just throw in the same trait over and over to raise a specific trait to its max level. You are also going to be doing a lot of "give-and-take" when synthesizing items for effects/traits in Sophie 2. There are times when you can aim for a max level effect for each effect in an item, but there are also times when I find trying to aim for a max level for each effect a little bit too difficult since I am focusing on using materials with better traits. Hence I only focus on getting the effects that I truly need for the resulting item. This is also something that would happen to you in any Atelier Ryza game, but it feels even more prevalent in this game, especially if you're just starting out. Worry not though, while Sophie 2's synthesis mechanic is inherently complex, they get less mind-numbing over time. You start out by playing some kind of puzzle game on the synthesis grid similar to that of a Rubik's cube, into playing a strategic game of chess where you'll have to focus more on traits and getting some if not all effects for the item that you're going to synthesize. So how are the other gameplay elements though? Like combat and exploration? I'd say that I prefer Ryza 2 and 3 hack-and-slash combat mechanics. I often find myself spamming
Twilight Prism
on every boss every time I get the chance. Even so, this item will only be available to you once you're getting near the end of the game, so you'll still have to plan properly in order to make your way through certain bosses. Some bosses will also bring up Aura (a kind of barrier that blocks any kind of attack albeit not entirely) more often than you'd think so you'd still need to adapt and find better strategies to defeat the boss. The exploration aspect of this game is somewhat similar to Metroidvania, with a small bit of puzzle attached to it. A lot of the exploration mechanics in this game rely on a weather-controlling device to change the condition of the environment and this weather system will be the key to how you'll be progressing throughout a dungeon. I kinda liked this system, it slightly removes the tedium of having to go through a long dungeon like in most other JRPGs. As for the story though, it was quite a bumpy ride. The story isn't for me at the very least. I do like the characters though, they're very charming and are easily likable, but the entire concept of the dream world felt a little dull to me. That said though, still a servicable story if you're not that serious about it. I hoped that Gust wouldn't give up on Sophie just yet and maybe make a third game. Because there's so much to like about this game, but there's also still so many things in the game that weren't as fleshed out as I hoped it would be. There are not many other games that are as unique as Atelier Sophie 2, and it would be nice to see that Gust would keep doubling down on making more Atelier games in the future.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 27: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

My favorite game in the Atelier series -- if you haven't played Sophie 1 though, I highly suggest doing that first. There's a lot of references between character interactions and story that require some knowledge of the first Sophie game to really understand. For any newer fans who came to the series from the newer Ryza games, definitely suggest this game. I think Sophie is a much more fun and interesting character than Ryza, I think the plot and artwork are better, and I think overall the game is just more polished and knows its place more than Ryza (I think Ryza 3 tried too hard to do too many things). Biggest plus to this game is that the alchemy system is FAR better than Ryza in my opinion. Having a clear tree with ways to progress in alchemy, two different alchemists to level up, and a system that is far more intuitive and allows for more puzzle solving than mindlessly placing ingredients, it absolutely surpasses Ryza's systems. The biggest downside to this game in my opinion is the weather mechanics. I think it's cool to have some elements of exploration but if you're looking for a more open-world experience, I suggest Ryza 3, as it actually allows for more interesting movement and exploration. However, if you're looking for open-world, Atelier probably isn't your best bet anyways. Overall, great game. Amazing soundtrack, great alchemy system, stays true to the Atelier series (and in particular Sophie 1) and just one of my favorite games of all time.
My favorite of the Atelier games, so good I played it twice and if they remaster it, I will play it a third time. Takes everything good from the series and slaps good boss battles into it which results in a very fun experience with reactive gameplay.
