About
Astrox Imperium is my attempt to create the space game that I wanted to play, but no one had created. I wanted a single player, open-world space game that is similar to games I enjoyed, like Homeworld and EVE, with economies, factions, and a simple story. A game where I could set all the parameters, and the universe would come alive with new challenges each time I played. I tried to take the best of what I liked from many of my favorite space games, and combine them into something simple but deep, familiar yet fresh, and enjoyably addicting to play.
The main game play loops are fairly simple, and familiar. What makes Astrox Imperium unique, is the way that you can easily glide between the various loops to maintain a nice level of progression, without it feeling to slow or too fast. You have complete control over how the universe is generated. You can make it long and 'grindy', or tweak the endless sandbox settings for fast and rapid progression to access all the mechanics the game has to offer.
As with most space games of this genre, mining is a big mechanic of Astrox. It is the easiest way to earn credits. You can also complete contract missions. These are randomly generated missions that offer a variety of task and objectives to complete. Some of these contracts are combat missions that will involve raiders, pirates, and sometimes regular npcs. The combat missions offer a bit more action to an otherwise relaxed game. The rate at which you choose to progress is up to you. There are a number of small, interesting little mechanics sprinkled throughout the game that were given a lot of thought and care, but you will not find anything groundbreaking or innovative here. This game is meant to feel comfortable and familiar. The game play loops are designed to be simple enough to understand quickly, and complex enough to enjoy over many hours of play.
Many of the classic mechanics from the space game genre have been incorporated into Astrox Imperium. Basic interface controls were designed using elements from some RTS and FPS games. All the fan favorites and core game play elements have been included; mining, crafting, trading, refining, fleets, combat, exploration, survival, and more. This game will seem familiar to fans of the space survival / exploration game genre. Here is a list of features that are currently in the game. What NOT to expect
Astrox is NOT a fast-paced space shooter... there is no mouse aiming.
Astrox is NOT an idle game. There are things you can do AFK, but this game requires user input to play.
Astrox is NOT multiplayer.
Astrox does NOT have AAA quality models and textures. Many are placeholders and will be replaced.
The game will be soon leaving early access. With over 144 updates over 7 years, the journey has been a long one. I could not have done it with the endless support and help from some amazing players and contributors. I am eternally grateful for their years of support and encouragement.

Reviews
I see a lot of negative reviews and they're not wrong on the issues with the current state of the game. I have fun when I load up my game save or start a new galaxy. The cons I have with the game: 1) The asteroid layout-I would have like an option for belts instead of clusters. 2) I would have liked wormholes. These cons aren't game breakers for me either, I still enjoy the game in it's current state. I play more casually now and don't have loads of time to game, this does fill a void when I want to play a space game. I've played Eve Online for over 10 years now and I'm not going to bash this game. I felt where the developer's heart was at when making this game. It's not perfect, not finished and yes "abandoned" but we have all experienced worse in our gaming years. Yes we paid for it, but we all know the risks when we buy games these days. That's not a shot a the developer, it's just what us gamers deal with more often than we would like. I recommend if you are willing to spend the small amount when it's on sale and if you feel it's not worth the risk of being disappointed, then that's okay. I hope this review is helpful. It's an honest review and like I said before, some of the negative reviews hold weight but the good reviews do as well. Fly Safe o7

It's quite strange that this game has been in Early Access since 2019 - I don't really understand Steam's idea that projects can have this status for years on end; it's so idiotic! The game itself is pretty interesting, and it does slightly resemble EVE Online with some of its mechanics. What's even better is that it doesn't have griefers who, out of boredom, harass every new player like they do in EVE. ;) Another weird thing is that the developers have promoted this game for MODs from the very beginning, but there's no integration with Steam Workshop, so you have to look for mods yourself online. :/ Despite these various "oddities," a huge plus is that the developers are constantly working on the game and it's not dead. - I recommend it!
Game Currently in an Abandoned state. DEV is said to be recovering from some health issues. I wish the DEV best wishes in getting better soon. Having said that, at the time of this post there has been no updates for over a year.

Abandoned :(
Good game. Fully abandoned :(. Don't even understand why is it still on sale
It's a pity that the author burned out and abandoned this, because it's very well polished for a space sandbox. For me personally it doesn't obviously hold more than 20-30 hours of play without some narrative or external goals. But most of that time was quite satisfying! After a second 25-ish hours of play, with a combative start instead of a mining start: - combat: good for what it is! mostly around gearing well with appropriate skill investments and knowing when to run - missions: excellent variety, good loop, simple planning challenges - mining: very dull in a micromanagement / constant clicking way - campaign mode: not difficult! - sandbox mode: hard to get an enjoyable galaxy layout, start is drudgery and offputting - trading & economy: a sideline and hard to manage, until you discover how it's quite exploitable - factions: easy to make everybody happy unless you want to play the assassin? Maybe a couple more attempts to find good galaxy parameters?
This is well worth your time if you're into Space Simulation / Trading / Base Building, just don't expect it to ever leave Early Access. With that said, it feels like an *almost* finished with the caveat being a central story to follow and some late game balancing issues. I bought this when it originally came out in 2019, and have recently started a new save in 2026 and am enjoying it once again.
