From the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Dear Esther comes a new first-person horrorgame that will drag you to the depths of greed, power and madness. It will bury its snout into your ribs and it will eat your heart.

I liked the game. The downsides are the many cut features, like the large inventory and the puzzles connected to it, which were present in the previous game in the series, Dark Descent. But all of that is compensated by a more tragic story. I especially like the narration — it feels more captivating than in the previous entry of the series. Many things are revealed as you progress: dark passages, an interesting concept — all of this really appealed to me and left a lasting impression. Tragic and frightening scenes, impressive and surprising ones — everything is here. The game crashed a bit, but that’s fine; it was still interesting to read the story and get to know its characters.
Pros: - Great creepy story - Dark atmosphere (in some places could not see properly) - Awesome soundtrack and voice acting Cons: - no interaction with objects (except chairs and drawers) - no inventory or light management - too simple puzzles Even though Machine for Pigs did not include various mechanics that made The Dark Descent great, I still enjoyed its story and creepy atmosphere. Puzzles could be a little more harder. For the price tag of 19.50€ I am sorry to say it is not worthy, since bundle from brick and mortar game stores can be bought for 11€. But who buys games for full price on steam anyway :D

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Three crashes and one hung load screen. Still not enough to deter me from giving a positive review all these years later. Good way back then, good to this day. Where it lacks the interactivity of the dark descent with so many objects you can't even pick up and throw it makes up for it in richness of story even compared to the original.
A Machine for Pigs is a fun atmospheric horror game with a great setting and story (a hellish factory in turn-of-the-century industrial Britain) but let down by some of its design decisions. However I think it's a worthwhile addition to the Amnesia series. The Chinese Room decided to remove the inventory system, strip back on the puzzles and lean more heavily into being a story-driven experience (much like their other games). It's a step back in terms of mechanics and design from the first game. But the elements of a great narrative horror game are still here for those that give it a chance. Please note that the game does crash occasionally on my modern system (especially when loading into a new chapter). I recommend saving occasionally to avoid losing progress. 6/10
Somewhat of a horror walking simulator, with mild puzzles. Too dark in places (visually) and there was a bit of frustration with wandering around, but not too bad. The production values and the plot kept me interested and I will probably play it again to get the all the achievements. Quick addition: I was having problems with audio getting set the wrong device, but it was solved by launching it with the launcher and not the game directly.
gets too much hate personally my favorite of any of the amnesia games
A lot better than I expected it to be based on how much hate it's gotten. It's strengths are definitely it's story, music, and atmosphere. Doesn't do a whole lot in terms of gameplay and some lag/crashing. Don't go into it with TDD on your brain, different games but similar vibes and there are very few mentions of Brennenberg/Alexander.
