Surprisingly good sequel to an amazing classic of the 360 era. It feels lower budget and the story feels somehow even less clear as to how canon it's events are, but every other change is either an improvement, or at least not a downgrade. The less realistic style tends to age better, I like the cartoonier style, though I do prefer the realistic look of the first game even if it is dated, and I'm sure I'd love the remaster even more because of that. This game is faster paced, and there are new weapons, new enemy types, the action of the game isn't broken up by story as much due to less focus on the story, yet what story there is captivates the audience because of its connection to the first game, and the really fun villain of the story, Mr. Scratch. After going to all 3 areas, the game pulls a "time loop" trick, which means you have to play through those stages again, unfortunately repetitive. Honestly I'd say fans of the first game should NOT skip this game, despite what I thought originally, this game does follow up on the first game and is still a ton of fun, despite it not being the sequel that we finally got with Alan Wake 2, which I can't wait to play. I should also give Arkham Origins another shot since I didn't like the cheaper, cartoonier feel of that game despite liking this one. though this game keeping the same voice actors goes a long way. This game also has a fun gimmick of being sort of an episode of the in-universe show, Night Springs, a parallel to the real-world show, The Twilight Zone. Super cool experience despite its drawbacks, a solid 7/10-ish to compliment the original games 9/10-ish before jumping into the proper numbered sequel. It's also really cheap, so definitely play it.
