About

Brilliant, burnt-out, possibly cursed – you play as operant Hershel Wilk, alias CASCADE. Five years ago you led your team into the abyss and have been haunted by your failures ever since. Now you've been recalled for a mysterious assignment that may give you a chance to prove yourself again.

Uncover secrets hidden in the lost corners of the city and within your own mind. Navigate a murky world of potential informants and adversaries. Pass skill checks to uncover their true motivations through subterfuge, violence, or deduction. As an operant, there are multiple ways to approach every problem - your choices and methods will be your own, and so will the consequences.

Find yourself thrown into a three-way struggle for cultural and ideological power, played out across an unforgettable city. You'll go up against international bankers, foreign techno-fascists, psychic doppelgängers, a paranoid TV presenter, a man with a box for a heart, and dozens more. Everyone you meet has their own agendas, beliefs, and secrets for you to uncover and turn to your own ends. In ZERO PARADES, even the world itself is a character with its own secrets, traumas, and miracles for you to discover.

Operants subject themselves to years of psychological training to hone their minds into their greatest weapons. Do you favor animal-like reflexes, a philosophical approach, or a different cover story for every occasion? Through Conditioning, you'll turn the deepest aspects of Hershel's identity into potent abilities and unlock new paths forward. You can even change the rules of the game itself.

Pressures simulate the physical and psychological toll of being in-theatre. Exertion pushes dice rolls in your favour – just remember that you’re gambling with your life. Keep your Fatigue, Anxiety, and Delirium in check or deal with the long-term repercussions.

In this line of work you're going to fail way more often than you succeed. That much is expected of you. What matters is how you pick yourself back up. If the dice don't go your way (and they won't) you'll have to improvise and hope the consequences are ones you can live with.

Reviews
If the writing may not be quite as impressive as it was in Disco Elysium, this game is still top-tier. A must play if you love disco elysium.

👍💯
good game
Great writing, similar to Disco Elysium in style.
This is an excellent game, is it overall as good as Disco Elysium…well no. I would say it does a lot of things much better then Disco. For one the story is far stronger. The spy narrative here works. It’s a very well thought out spy story that honestly is probably one of the best spy stories I’ve heard. The problem with Disco Elysium was that the murder mystery at the heard of that game was bad…it was a terrible mystery that was not possible to solve. This game is a lot more straight forward, it has fun twists that you would expect in any spy story, but it’s not like you are trying to solve a mystery. I also think the characters are stronger. I liked CASCADE better then Harry from Disco. I felt she was more empathetic. While their never will be as great a character as Kim from Disco…the rest of the supporting cast in Zero Parades was all great. I loved every character and just enjoyed talking to them. Holocene and Melita might be my favorite. Holocene because he seems unhinged and basically a more sober version of the craziest Harry you could make in Disco. Melita just seemed so sad all the time that I wanted to get to know her more. Also Zoe, she was insane, but I enjoyed the fun spy dialogue you could have with her. I guess I would say almost every character had such a deep melancholy, but also pathos. Everyone was very well written and I thought the voice actors did an incredible job. The problem in my view is the game is held back by the actual game design systems. You have to balance 3 mental states during your time and it’s just very frustrating to do. The fact you literally lose skill points if your mental states are overwhelmed is quite frankly absurd. It’s just a bad system, you can’t even buy items to heal your mental states without increasing one of the other 3…unless you sleep. So I was constantly sleeping as I couldn’t do any actions without going into the red zone. The bigger problem with the game though is…succeeding or failing on skill checks is just not very fun. The thing that really made Disco stand out was the insanity of what happens if you either succeed or fail a skill check. It was enjoyable to watch. This game, except in a few rare occurrences, just has like an extra line of dialogue that you succeeded or failed. It was very disappointing. The game certainly has a lot of different plot points that can happen based on your decisions and there are a lot of different ways to complete the tasks…but not getting big epic moments like in Disco was very short sighted imo. The one exception was the ending
the fight on the train was incredible. It was so incredibly epic and their it was pretty epic whether you succeeded or failed on your skill checks. YO YO dying in my arms was rough and Holocene saying he performed a special maneuver to temporarily disappear through the wall was incredible. That end shoot out honestly was the best moment in the game especially as it’s hard to succeed! It was perfect!
The same goes for the conditioning bonuses you can get…in Disco the mental bonuses were huge and could get you incredible things. In this game the bonuses…mostly only allow you to slot in more skill points…again it lacks the coolness of disco. I did enjoy the dialogue though when you select one of the conditions, they were all fun. I will say I think I like the setting of this world more then Disco. Disco felt claustrophobic. Their was this sense that this weird fog/shroud would soon close in and wipe out the world. This world feels like it has a real history. I mean they have moon bases in this world. It just feels so much bigger. It was very confusing to wrap my head around which spy organization belonged to what country…I hate glossaries in games, but honestly this might be the one time I would have liked one. Still, this world feels large and lived in. This feels like a world that actually could have a sequel to this game at the very least set in this world even if it’s different characters. Despite the fact things hold this back from being as amazing a masterpiece as Disco, this is still an amazing game and easily #Worth Any Price. It is frustrating how badly things ended between the developers of Disco Elysium and ZAUM, but the fact remains this game is fantastic and it would be insane to skip this if you loved Disco Elysium.
