It took me 45 hours to figure out the menus for this game. Not because they are bad, but because there is so much to do. This is Eve Online, Singleplayer edition, but somehow better. Ship mods, ship equipment, ship type, ship size, schematics, various factions, large game world that seems capable of expanding as you fly out from central gates, etc. Its quite an interesting game. I have enjoyed not playing it thoroughly! Now that I figured out the menus, I see a genocidal campaign of gate network conquest coming! The fact that it only takes a few button presses to go from fighting in a fleet battle as the main carrier with a wing of 100 small craft and 4 medium, all crewed, all fighting enemies... the game literally lets you be anything from one random pilot to the leader of the entire Universe. You can command ships across the whole of space in real time while watching your fleet crush your enemies. Amazing game. I bought every single DLC within a few hours of buying it!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I've tried to play this game multiple times. I gave it an honest shot. Sorry, developers, you have no idea how to make a game. Tutorials are awful. Storylines are awful. Quests are awful. Guidance is awful. Every system is unapproachable and awfully explained. People will say, "well duh, you should just ignore the story (lol, story), not do the quests, and just do what you want!" Great, so really I am just playing the game wrong for... playing the game itself. Sorry for thinking that the game had a story, like it says it does. Sorry for thinking you should follow the quests, like the game throws at you. There is no defending this game. It's ridden with bad design. The developers have NO idea on how to make a simple quest. They have no idea on how to do dialogue. What's the problem? Make your own story! Yeah, this isn't marketed as RimWorld. Even then, RimWorld is a "storytelling game." This isn't. This is spreadsheets, the game. Somewhere in there is a good concept for a game. Execution? Awful. Bad writing. Missions are immensely disappointing. Systems locked behind busywork, not explained ANYWHERE, down to "how do I hire a builder" or "where do I purchase a satellite" or "where do I find energy cells?" "Oh, you can play the tutorials." Brother, the tutorials are as poorly crafted. Is the simulation good? No idea. Allegedly. Eat a dirt cake. Sure, there's creamy goodness inside, if you can get through the dirt. It's not well designed.
TL;DR: The best single-player MMO you can play. Also the game that will make you ask "who designed this?" at least once per session. If you can accept its flaws, there is nothing quite like it. I have 900h (more actually) and I still can't decide if I love this game or hate it. Usually both. + Nice free updates, like seriously every version really brings something that makes me reinstall and start new game. + Interesting rebalance + Finally destroyers know how to shoot forward with their main battery and actually strafe, took them only 8 years. + War driven economy - sooner you understand this, better proffffitsss you will have. + Some beautiful DAKKA! + Ships and stations aesthetics. + The lore is surprisingly good, the game as a whole is incredibly atmospheric (lore, not plot) + Scale (that feeling when for the first time you will see a ship from your fleet randomly landing on same station as you... ahhhh) + Best single-player MMO out there ;) + Mods (Including HUUUUGE Star Wars mod - Star Wars Interworlds - google it) + Mega sandbox... - ...but you should focus on building an empire or at least a small corporation. Playing solo in a single ship gets boring pretty fast. - Absolute trash Timelines DLC - Be prepared to hit reddit/youtube to learn how to actually play this. (not bad community tho) - UI (Christ...) - There will be moments when you'll want to commit crimes against the devs — or at least curse them out pretty heavily. - P2W-ish elements (don't pretend they don't exist). Small DLCs can give you access to powerful ships that are surprisingly easy to obtain. (Yes, I know this is a single-player game with a creative mode... still. If it makes you feel better, call it "pay-to-skip" or "pay-for-convenience".) - Sometimes (pretty rare but annoying) weird performance issues - stable 90fps than **pooof** 6fps out of nowhere. (probably will be fixed) - Stubbornness about maintaining save compatibility from very old versions - limits how creative updates can be. That's maybe 10% of what this game has to offer - it is absolutely huge. There is a high chance of developing a love-hate relationship with it :) DLC consensus is something like: Cradle (Terrans) - must have - many tutorials, decent plot and VA, simplified economy type. Terrans are also usually involved in conflicts, so the economy tends to run nicely. Kingdom (Borons) - nice for new players, many tutorials - calm area (this might be not a best thing for profits) cute ships, best carrier in-game Tides (aka Pirate DLC) - salvage and pirating (including tutorials), nice end-game goal - usually least liked - important for me, I like all salvage mechanics and closed loop economy. Split Vendetta - first DLC, focused on end-game mostly. Really cool ships (cool doesn't mean best or super efficient), dakka, not bad story (rare in this game). Timelines - AHAHHAHAHAHA... well this happens when sandbox guys try to create scenarios pack. Disaster. Prepare to visit YT few times, not because you are bad player, but because some of missions are TERRIBLY designed. Discounted "Community of Planets" is best option. Or buy basic and add DLC when it will be convenient - remember that sales are pretty often. Have Fun
I love space sims, but this is by far the most unapproachable in existence. I feel as if the franchise has a loyal playerbase that is used to how it works and the devs probably don't get as much feedback from newer players, but I've tried twice to get into X4 because I like the concept but it's so difficult to navigate the game that I always end up giving up pretty quickly. I did do the basic tutorials, I did the intermediate ones as needed, but I simply cannot navigate the incredibly obtuse UI and controls. I understand the concept of a learning curve but there is no learning curve here. A good learning curve features easy to learn, hard to master. Here we have a learning wall and you need to climb it right from the start. For the people that learned this game and mastered its systems, I salute you. For the devs, your game is seriously unapproachable to people who are new to the X series. Your UI is a nightmare, ship control feels clunky, and your onboarding process doesn't exist. Your game has a lot going on, so for a new player it feels like a small town kid being dropped into downtown Tokyo with mediocre Japanese skills.
This game does so many things right, and is clearly groundbreaking for a lot of systems. I find myself talking about it a lot to my friends, but at the end of the day I don’t recommend it to them, and as such it’s only fair that I leave this a “Do NOT Recommend” review. But hopefully I can shed light on what this game does right and what it does wrong. The Good: - This is the best sandbox I’ve ever played. Factions will actually grow and conquer, and will grow and conquer faster with your help. It’s the first game where the world feels truly dynamic. - I also love how you can start as a broke pilot, and over time snowball your cash to not just owning bigger ships, but having entire fleets and stations working for you. - The combat has its moments of satisfaction (but also major downsides). But being able to target individual components like shield generators feels great; really brings me back to X-Wing vs. Tie-Fighter. The Bad: - Friendly Fire is too easy, even with Beam weapons, and so many times I am trying to escort a friendly NPC only to have them turn hostile on me because I or one of my fleet ships accidentally damaged it somehow. This is absolutely game-breaking. - Fighter combat feels awful. The best term I’ve seen used for it by the community is “jousting”. Basically the AI speeds at you, fires, and then goes into warp mode away from you. Flies really far, turns around, and comes back. So instead of a dogfight, it feels like you are rubber banding against each-other and it takes forever to kill anyone. As soon as I could I stopped flying small fighters and only engaged in larger cruiser fights. - Anything with a spacesuit needs to be removed. Everything. It is the absolute worst aspect of this game, because there is no flight assist and you just play human pinball. It is absolutely rage-inducing, and every time a mission says “Get into your space suit” I want to quit. - The Missions are so poorly explained. I ended up having to google search pretty much everything. No mission description or objective makes sense. Luckily, there are tons of YouTube videos explaining how to get through them, but they are just a painful chore, not rewarding content. I thought maybe the expansions would get better, but not really. I feel like all of the negatives could be easily fixed, but the game is ancient now so I doubt they ever will be. So I can’t suggest people try this game. But wow, there really is some good stuff too, so if it’s on a deep sale and you have time and money to burn, it’s worth goofing around in. But if it ever tells you to get into your spacesuit, ignore it and go do something else.

9 Updates and the core problems still remain, you people should be ashamed of yourselves. You waste years on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and yet the core AI problems from game launch still persist. Floggings and firings all around.
Normally I would wait for 1000 hours to post a review, but this game especially in version 9.0, is so awesome I will gladly give it a big thumbs up at a mere 968 hours. Thank you Egosoft!
I would play this game if there was autopilot docking - like legit auto pilot docking, like in Freelancer or X3 even. In real life an AI will fly ships into hangers - no space station will ever allow a pilot to do it, this has been well demonstrated in a ton of sci-fi media - well before AI even. So many places to dock - a huge, huge hassle/chore each time. I don't want to get good at it - I absolutely hate it and its an utterly pointless part of playing. I can't even find a mod that fixes this. Its like if this was car racing/driving game and one of the biggest time-sinks with an incredibly high learning curve is parking the car - not finding a parking spot in a parking lot, there is always an open spot on the space stations and you can see them - its literally just the actual act of driving the car into the spot. Infuriating and tedious. I played EVE a lot. Unless they add autopilot docking - I will never, ever play this game.
